My AC untimely went out on me in the middle of sweltering July and I was stuck in a hot house wondering what to do next. I had used Mountain Breeze a couple of times before and was happy with their service. But, the capacitor went out on my A/C and I asked them to come out. The tech arrived and was talking on his phone almost nonstop. He replaced the capacitor before providing an estimate and then charged me $540 to replace a $40 part in 30 minutes. Sure, I should have demanded an estimate. I think the phone call may have been a ruse to prevent having that conversation with me. I will not use them again. read more

I called Mountain Breeze Heating & Air to schedule an estimate on my AC unit that had stopped working. I was told estimates were free of charge. Jim Morse came out to perform the estimate, but from the start, his demeanor was unfriendly and off-putting. After briefly inspecting my system, he began working up an estimate for a full replacement. When I asked if the unit could be repaired instead, he became hostile and said the work order only mentioned replacement. I clarified that I was seeking options, not just a replacement quote. He reluctantly agreed to do a diagnostic and told me the AC issue was due to poor installation by the home builders, adding that my furnace would likely fail next. When I made a lighthearted comment not to jinx me, he snapped back aggressively, saying the previous installer had already done that. The situation escalated when I noticed a service fee on the paperwork. I mentioned that I was told estimates were free, and he sharply told me diagnostics weren't included. When I expressed confusion, he insisted the customer service rep had informed me and threatened to "play the recording." He then shouted, "Never mind, just don't pay it. I'm poor and you live in this big house in a rich neighborhood and don't want to pay a diagnostic fee." At that point, I asked him to leave due to his aggressive tone. As he was leaving, he pointed to the estimate and said no one else would do the work cheaper and that I had treated him "like garbage." I explained I simply wanted clarification, and he said, "You're way up here, and I'm beneath you." This was one of the most unprofessional and uncomfortable experiences I've ever had. I would give zero stars if it were an option. I do not recommend Mountain Breeze Heating & Air--especially not Jim Morse. His behavior was aggressive, inappropriate, and deeply concerning. It was actually a little difficult to find a company that works on baseboard heating and another company recommended mountain breeze after I had asked them and they don't offer it. They were available to help the next day which was great because our heating wasn't working. At first they thought it was an air lock and after purging twice, the technician realized it was a faulty part on our boiler system. Unfortunately there's nothing to do about a broken part except replace it and it came in way higher than we were thinking to fix our heat. A part had to be ordered and he came back the next day to fix it. Adam was really nice, easy to communicate with and very thorough in explaining to us what was going on. I can't express how good my experience was with these guys from the moment I called requesting an estimate. James came the next morning, spent about 15 minutes taking pictures, measuring, chatting with his electrician, and gave me a quote for a new furnace, AC, and steam house humidifier. The next day I texted James that we would like to proceed, and his army of 6-7 guys in 3 trucks showed up at 8am the following day, ready to bang it out. Everyone was respectful, kind, and efficient. They laid flooring protector down and removed my 24 year old HVAC system and replaced with all new, plus a steam humidifier and a new Nest thermostat in about 4.5 hours! Our hot water heater went out one day and someone had recommeneed Mountain Breeze to us. They had a technician there within a couple of hours. He was really nice and very knowledgeable, we had a lot of questions about switching to a tankless system. We went with the tankless water heater he recommended and we couldn't be happier. The good: The team provided a good price for average to decent rated furnace, humidifier and AC units and got the job done in a day. They were quick and professional. The not so good: They needed to cut holes in our drywall to run pipes through, somewhat expected but it would have been nice to have had the pieces they cut out to make repairs easier. They also ran the humidifier drain hose outside and attached it parallel to the house. I didn't think much of it, wrongly assuming that the 'overflow' would be minimal. Once it started running regularly with the cold weather I noticed a swamp at the foundation of our brick house. We're now having to deal with water damage in our below ground stairwell. The humidifier was dumping 10+ gallons a day. I had to research to find that our model (the only one we were offered) is a 'flow through' that can waste 5-8 gallons for every 1 gallon it puts in the air. read more

I normally don't write these kind of reviews, but my experience was SO outrageous that I really feel like my experience needed to be shared. My family bought a house recently and I called Mountain Breeze for someone to give us an estimate. I told them we had another company come out already before we bought the house and we were just comparing rates. The woman on the phone said someone could come out that afternoon. Great. My aunt, who is the one who bought the house, said the man that showed up was rude to her right off the bat. He said that he was there to measure for a new air conditioning unit. She quickly told him they weren't interested in a new unit, and said he went outside trying to call me. Next thing she knows, he is wandering around in the backyard. English is not her first language, but she has been in this country for 30 years, I'm pretty sure her "no" was pretty clear. I'm not sure who the technician is, but the card left was for Jim Morse, the owner... I then get a call from my aunt saying that the air conditioning is no longer working. I call the technician to clarify what happened and he says he doesn't do repairs, only deals with new units, and that if I wanted to do that I should have said so. I explained that I did NOT request for a new unit, I simply asked for an estimate and was not asked for details. He said he was right next to the woman making the appointment and that was what I said. I DID NOT. He insisted that I would have to sort that out with the office. A few hours later, I attempt to call the office number and don't get a reply. I call the technician again and ask him to walk me through what he had done while he was at the home since I was not there to witness anything in person. I explained that somehow the AC was working yesterday, but now was no longer functioning, so I was just trying to get to the bottom of this. He starts going off on this long rant, yelling at me, REPEATEDLY accusing me of trying to scam him and insisting that the unit hasn't been working for the past 5 years. I was so shocked because I have NEVER been treated so harshly. The AC unit is old, and I am fully aware that there is a small chance that it could have broken in the time I left the house the night before and the time Mountain Breeze came by. All I was trying to do, is figure out what happened since I wasn't there in person. I get a call back from the office woman, Sarah, who I try to explain things to. I was pretty shaken up at this point, and she claimed she had no idea what was going on. I told her that I had spent some time getting yelled at and that I did not ask for a new unit, just an estimate. She ASSUMED that I wanted a new AC, even though I was clear that I had another estimate to compare services to, and could provide that if needed. She just kept saying it was a "miscommunication". How is that my fault, and why does that result in me and my family getting yelled at and having a now broken AC unit?? She continually kept trying to tell me what I said, even though there were MANY assumptions on her part and no effort to gather more detail while I made the appointment. "You said you wanted a new unit." "No, I said I wanted an estimate and I had services to compare to." "Oh... it was a misunderstanding." I later find out that not only was the technician rude to my aunt, but completely disregarded anything she had to say. On top of continuing on our property even though she told him we were NOT interested in a new unit, he apparently REFUSED to talk to her when she asked him how much it would be. He slammed his hand down at her and said he would only be talking to me on the phone. She. Is. The. OWNER! What the hell kind of business treats their clients like that! I don't know anything about their quality of work, but I know how they deal with people. I am APPALLED with how my aunt was treated, and at how terribly the entire situation was handled. I can't support giving people like this any money. My aunt's English may be a little broken, but that is NOT an excuse to speak to her the way he did and ignore everything that was coming out of her mouth. We are now on the search for a respectable business that does not discriminate to fix our broken AC unit. read more

My AC unit stopped working. I called Mountain Breeze and they were polite and quick to show up to give me an estimate. They charged me $84 to provide an estimate, part of which would be refunded if they did any work. The serviceman recommended a new outdoor AC fan unit at a cost of $4,400, or a replacement of the capacitor and contactor at a price of $500. A second guy showed up from a different company and recommended simply replacing the capacitor at a cost of $150 for parts and labor. He said he could install a new unit at a cost of $2,500, for the same size AC unit. He did not charge me for an estimate. He had me up and running in no time, at a fraction of the cost Mountain Breeze wanted to charge. I feel like the price Mountain Breeze wanted to charge was so far in excess of what I needed to pay that I was being flat-out ripped off. The serviceman was professional and courteous (other than the rip-off job), so my only complaint is related to the excessive pricing. read more

Have them install a new furnace 2 years ago. At that time I also have them install an A coil for future ac unit. Needed to save $ for the other half of system. Finally got a break and purchased the rest of the parts myself and installed all I could. Called and asked for a quote to simply connect piping and charge system. Usually only a 3-4 hour job. They came back and said they wouldn't make any money by just going around installing customers products. Then they said it would be roughly $2000! For a simple connect evacuation and system charge!!! This company has no interest what so ever in working with the customer. Even one that has done business with them before. Be very cautious about dealing with these people. Shop around other places. UPSATE Within 3 hours of leaving this very honest and to the point review I was contacted by the company. The gentleman that called ask me to remove my review from Yelp saying it was unfair and all wrong. I asked him specifically about the $2,000 quote and he said he was unable to give me any better quote without looking at the job. Now I understand that giving an estimate over the phone can be difficult at times. I have run my own company before but he did not offer give me a rough hourly rate. I did ask him if his employees were paid hourly and his response was no they are all salary. At the end of our conversation he again asked me to remove my negative review and I told him I would not. Everything in it has been honest and true. His response was then have a nice day and I will contact Yelp directly and ask them to remove the review. Wanting to everyone! My father was growing ill and complained about a rash that had formed on his back. It turns out that he was getting sick from the rising summer temperature in his new home which didn't have air conditioning. Mountain Breeze was the fifth heating and air company that I contacted. All of the four others. One of the four said they would call us back, and never did. The other three scheduled a three hour window with us when we were told to expect someone to show up to give a consulation. Three out of three times they were no call - no shows. We should have contacted Mountain Breeze first. My husband and I used them back in 2007 to install a water heater, and I'm not sure why we didn't think to reach out to them initially. About ten years ago the furnace and air conditioning units in my townhouse needed replacing and I chose Mountain Breeze. What a lucky choice it turned out to be! I have been very happy with the system over all these years. I have them come out and check it every six months. They change my filter and do whatever is needed. They also installed a humidifier. The other day Adam was at a unit near me and while up on the roof he took a look at my air conditioner condenser in order to answer a question of the client he was servicing. Now I had had them out for my six month check in June so I hadn't called them. Adam saw that my condenser was not working correctly and he called me. I am unhappy with this company. My heater was not working and they came out and did some repair work. Costs me $150 with the trip charge and repairs the first time. The heater was on and I was happy at the time. I turned the heater off because it was too warm out. Then about 10 days later, I tried turning the heater on again and same issue! I called their office, they wanted to send someone out the same day, but I was hesitant because I don't know... They didn't fix it the first time.... I said I don't want to pay the $84, Sarah said I won't have to if it's the same issue. I agreed to have the tech come out the next day. 3 minutes later tech said it was the same exact issue but since the first time was for a repair only and no parts were replaced, there was NO WARRANTY on it. That's nice, $150, and it doesn't matter if it breaks 10 minutes later. So, $150 & $84 just to be told that I need to replace parts that will cost $984 or get a new furnace with them at $3100??!?! OH wait, I was also told I needed new hot water heater which would costs $1395 for a 40 gallon. I got that replaced somewhere else for $750. So their price isn't the best either. Shop around. They got me on the trip fee though. The 1 star is for the tech, at least he was prompt and on time, and can tell me in less 5 minutes that it's the same issue, saved me some time there. I will not use again, on my home or rental properties. read more

I wouldn't use them again - I wasn't happy with the level of service I received. FIrst, the technician missed my appointment window, and I didn't receive a call from the company. I called them at the end of my window, and received an apology - their internet was down so they couldn't make any calls (I'm not sure what VOIP system can accept calls but not make them if the system is down?). No apology from the technician - in fact, he wasn't friendly at all. I asked them to come out and do an AC tuneup ($69), and to fix a condenser pump that wasn't working. The tuneup was completed, and the pump fixed but I was told that one of the pistons in my central furnace was the wrong size, and that was why there was a bit of noise in that tube/piston junction. We decided to replace it at quite a steep cost for such a tiny little part (it was explained that the AC had to be drained and refilled of coolant in order to complete the repair). The technician was here for many hours (about 5+), and didn't seem to be in a hurry to complete the job. He had to go out for a part and was gone for a while. I had to leave my home before he was done (he was at my house past 6 pm!), and we had to settle up the tab. The price he quoted me for the part replacement was NOT the final price he gave me, so I was very dissatisfied with that situation- he said the price he quoted me was only to replace the piston and didn't include the tuneup, etc. Should have gotten it in writing I guess, but this struck me as unprofessional. I haven't noticed my AC cooling any better than it was prior to the service, and the noise he pointed out is still there, so now I'm questioning whether I got taken for a ride. read more

BUYER BEWARE. Make sure you get everything in writing! ***update*** I will not be intimidated by Mountain Breeze, I don't care what they threaten to post. Phone calls and messages turned aggressive. I changed my 1 star to a 3 star review. The install crew were exemplary and they deserve 5 stars! And yes, they installed what we paid for. We purchased a furnace/AC combo. We liked the fact it was made in the USA and came with a 10 year labor warranty and a 10 year parts warranty. Best warranty we found. They even emphasized the 10 year labor, 10 year parts warranty. What they FAILED to mention was the 10 year labor warranty was conditional on maintenance only being performed by them at a cost of $178.00 a year! Over the course of 10 years that adds $1,780 to the cost of the system. They didn't mention this until the system was already installed and it came time to pay the bill. Nothing like being held hostage at gunpoint if we want the labor warranty. NOWHERE on the quote does it say that the 10 year maintenance was going to cost $$1,780 over 10 years. ***update*** They have since changed their tune and NOW state labor is warrantied even if they don't perform it. ***update*** If I had to do it all over again, I would pick someone else. -Mark read more

I called Mountain Breeze when I noticed that our HVAC system was blowing cool air in heating mode. They sent out Adam, and he serviced both systems and refilled the problem system with the gas. Two weeks later I noticed it started doing the same thing. Adam came back out that same day discovered a leak, refilled the system and made a repair without charging me anything. He did say that the leak he found was minor and there could be something bigger going on. The service I got was amazing friendly and professional. read more
