I went to this store to buy a product as a gift that I'd confirmed in advance they carried. When I got there, no one greeted me and no one offered to help me. I was walking around the store looking for the product for about ten minutes. During this time, I heard several White men come in who were greeted warmly, called sir, and asked if they needed help. I was finally able to hunt down a salesperson to help me look for the item that I wanted to buy. I hope that the reason I didn't receive the same treatment wasn't because I'm a professional woman of color. read more

Excellent shop and really a rare find in Atlanta. Pros:. - Top notch outdoor brands like Patagonia, OR, Parana, etc. Super rare to find a store like this in Atlanta. - Awesome staff, super friendly, very helpful. - Great prices (especially when they have a sale) however since they carry premium outdoor brands it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Cons: Just wish the store was bigger and they had more sales. Overall great store to have in Atlanta and if you want outdoor gear that actually works check them out. Now, let me preface this review by saying that I know, um, nothing about the great outdoors. Not about hiking, or camping, or rock climbing, or . . . but finding myself in the OK Cafe shopping center wandering around after brunch with the fabulous Lee T. at Goldberg's., I noticed a new store next to Publix I hadn't seen before and meandered in. Nice store - think a cross between those giant REI's, cozy Patagonia stores and a place like Half Moon Outfitters in Charleston. Nicely displayed goods, from tees to outerwear, casual "day" clothes, and all the brands you'd expect plus some independent labels. Extensive collection of Burt's Bees products, a fave of mine. A pretty large offering of shoes and boots for all your outdoor endeavors. While I don't know that I'll be in the market for their wares any time soon, if I ever am or if you are - check them out. I can't get over how great an experience I had shopping at this store earlier today. I have been searching for rain jackets, poring over reviews on REI, Amazon, blogs, etc. to find the perfect gift. I am short on time, so rather than order online, I ran to Mountain High Outfitters after work. So much of the inventory was on sale! Had I not done all that research, I would have opted for something based on price. Instead, I found the exact jacket I was looking for - but I was bummed to see that it wasn't on sale like it was at REI. I asked a sales associate to check the price - they had ALL offered to help me at different points in my trip, by the way! - and she let me know it was still full-price, as listed. Anyway, the manager overheard and offered to price match REI at up to 20% off. That was awesome. They offered me colors that were offered at a discount at REI, and when they found one for me that was offered at REI for half off (!!) of what they were offering at MHO and they couldn't match such a low price, the manager actually called REI back to see if they could hold one for me. I mean, this was a totally different retailer - they just wanted me to get the best price available for this particular jacket. Who does that? When REI didn't have the jacket in the right size, MHO gave me the 20% discount in addition to another coupon to use later because of how long it took ... while they were helping me for like 80% of that time. Super impressed. And I was not mad to stick around longer, browsing while they were bending over backwards to help me - they had a ton of cool stuff. Anyway, I'm a fan. I'll be back, and not just because of that coupon - I am amazed that they look out for the customers to the point that they'll sit on hold with another retailer to lose a sale. I was actually relieved to spend a few extra bucks (or quite a few) because I've never received service like that. A++++++++++. Thanks! read more

Discovered this store this morning via yelp and saved myself a drive across town as a result. I was shopping for some Southwestern hiking and had a wide range of sun hats, apparel & water bottle alternatives, at prices as good as you'll find anywhere else. In fact i wandered in during a sale and got 40% off! Staff is very friendly and helpful, too. So if you're going outdoors, come indoors to this place first! read more

I've only been here a few times, but every single time has been consistent - very friendly, very knowledgable crew! My husband & I went in today looking for shoes and the guy helping us was fantastic. Recommended several brands & styles, gave advice & info, basically everything that you'd hope for in a pricy niche shop. We'd considered ordering the same shoes on Amazon instead, but chose to spend our money here because of our consistently great experience. Aside from a great staff, this little shop actually has quite a bit in regards to outdoor apparel, footwear & gear. It's great for all outdoor activities... trail shoes, water shoes, hiking and camping gear, paddle boards, tents, hammocks, you name it. You might not get all of the gear for a trip here, but you'll get great basics and find some cool things that other stores don't carry (& perhaps that you never knew existed and never realized you needed!) You could find some (not all) of the stuff in this shop cheaper elsewhere. But what you pay a little more for in the way of knowledge/advice and experience is well worth it. Very disappointed. Bought a mountain khaki shirt. Over $100. After two washes, there were some wrinkles that never came out of the garment. I understand that items taken out of the box and displayed in the store may ne wrinkled. After a wash, they come out. Not this time. This tells me its a problem with the material the garment is made from. Im sure mountain khakis did not intend for the garment to have random wrinkles. The man I spoke to questioned how I washed the item. Cold water and gentle drying, like I have done for 30 years. He said well, it looks like it was ironed. Nope. Havent touched an iron in years. Well, he said, its been washed n we dont do returns on items that have been washed. My first mountain khaki purchase was at High Country outfitters. I learned their stuff runs big. Got a blue short sleeve shirt. Never wore it cuz it was huge on me. I mentioned this when in the HC store. The gal said mountain khakis have a great return policy and switched the shirt out for a medium. No receipt, no tags and was washed several times. That is customer service. Wasnt grilled on my clothes washing techniques. Just made it happen. I will not be returning to mountain high. REI and High Country carry the same stuff with better service and a dividend to boot read more

Really wanted to like this place, stopped in after leaving work with my girlfriend (we are lesbians) and yes she sometimes prefers men's clothing, while looking at the men's swim trunks one of the employees came up to us and told us we were looking at the men's swimming gear, yeah, we can tell seeing as how we have eyes. After informing him that we know. He felt the need to re iterate, "just want to make sure you're intentionally looking in the men's section". As opposed to what? Accidentally? Who doesn't know what section they are shopping in? It's just not something we expect to hear in this day in age. On top of that we were followed everywhere we went as though they suspected we would try to steal. I get it, sometimes places require you do it as part of your job. However, the white man in the store was not being followed. A bit racist if you ask me. This place should inform their staff on how to make their customers feel more inclusive, because this was not the way. read more

Buyer beware, if you buy anything that is 30% off or more you will NOT BE ABLE to return - STORE CREDIT ONLY!! If you purchase on the website you will not be warned of this on the sale items page, and you will not be warned when you put the item in your cart asnother online retailers do. You have to research and find out by reading the return policy BEFORE YOU PURCHASE. I found out the hard way. Don't make the same mistake I did. Now I have a store credit of almost $300 because I bought 2, yes 2 jackets in two different colors because I wanted to see which color I preferred. You can see the darker colored features in both of them which makes the jackets appear to have gray spots on them - like they're stained,or dirty, which is why I wanted to return. I spoke to the store manager, customer service, and now have store credit only. So like I said, beware of this. read more

I've been waiting to buy a new pack for quite awhile and finally had the funds to do so. I thought I had my eyes set on a particular pack when I walked into MHO. Tyler and Hunter both spent over two hours with me to make sure that I bought the perfect pack for me. They knew exactly how a pack should fit and they even packed it with weight and let me walk around the store to make sure it felt right. I'm so happy with my new pack and cannot wait to try it out on the trail. They also have a great selection of clothing and shoes brands! They have tons of climbing and camping gear and will be back to stock up on those! I even bought two backpacks for my pups! Everyone here is so nice and will go out of their way to make sure you find exactly what you are looking for. Going to the Mile High City on April 20 for a convention and needed a comfort jacket. Mountain High Outfitters is the best place to go if you are looking for a jacket (or any other gear). One of the employees Tyler was very helpful in assisting me and really knew what he was talking about. He is basically an outfitting prodigy. The store is very clean and organized and offers great deals. If you are thinking about visiting the store i would visit as soon as possible as they are running a sale on their winter merchandise. read more

I live nearby, and shop at Publix next door to Mountain High at least twice a week. But I had no idea how awesome this little store was until a few months ago, when my daughter wanted some very specific Bobs shoes. Mountain High had them. I wandered around the store and was amazed at how much cool stuff was tucked into the space. I've been in the store at least a dozen times since then, and without fail, every single employee has been kind, helpful, smart, and good-humored. Just before the Great Snowjam of (Jan.) 2014 hit Atlanta, I desperately searched for a winter jacket for my teenage son, who typically/stubbornly wears only shorts and a lightweight fleece. Mountain High had the *only* jacket I found in all of Atlanta (and I shopped everywhere!) that he deemed cool enough to wear (it's a North Face). Don't let the name fool you - Mountain High has a really good selection of clothing, gear and neat accessories for all sorts of leisure activities, as well as daily casual wear. Soooo much nicer than shopping at one of the big retailers! read more

I went in today and everyone who worked at Mountain High was great! Friendly and knowledgeable about their products. The guy in the shoe department took his time and was genuinely concerned about helping me find a shoe that would help me with my sciatica... he even demonstrated the proper way to walk without jamming my heal into the ground with each step. I've shopped at this location three times and all three visits were exceptional in terms of customer service provided. The sales associates here are not only knowledgeable, informative and friendly, but most are actual outdoor enthusiasts who use and wear the products they sell and can give first hand insight into the items' performance. Additionally, the associates seem to strike a nice balance of being present for assistance without being overbearing and intrusive to the shopper. While I browsed through the store, I heard the excellent service that other employees were providing to customers. Impressive. These employees were not simply taking up space while they waited for their shift to be over. They actual performed "customer service." I guess I'm focusing on the customer service aspect of my visits because that is an intangible quality that is difficult to find in retail. You can always make the merchandise look presentable, but I will return for the confidence your employees give me in selecting the right merchandise for my outdoor needs. read more
