I stumbled upon this coolest local shop by mistake this past weekend. My car wouldn't start in the parking lot and Stuart from the shop offered to jump my car in 17 degree temperature. When my car still wouldn't start, he invited me in to keep warm and comfortable while I wait things out. The team must've been aware of my failed jump, because as soon as I walked it, I was welcomed with a warm hello from the team. Warren especially was kind, we offered me a hot cup of coffee, a comfortable couch and ESPN on the TV. I felt like I was keep warm in a logged cabin while I waited for my husband to come my car rescue. Stuart and team were generous with their space. Needless to say, this shop will go above and beyond for you. In a world that largely seems to have lost its way as it relates to the art of customer service, High Country Outfitters stands out as an exception. I placed an online order for an Arc'teryx Men's Cerium Vest. My order was received, processed and shipped within a day. When the package arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find my new vest neatly folded and placed in tissue paper in its shipping box, not wadded up in some plastic bag in typical Amazon fashion. As an additional "white glove" touch, they included a nice , hand-signed (by "Bill") Thank You card expressing their appreciation for my order. They even included a High Country sticker just to be nice and maybe for a little free advertising :-) I know... I know... it's not like they came over and washed my car, but it's the thought that counts. This kind of family-business driven "extra yard" effort makes a shop stand out... makes me want to trade with them again in the future, kind of like how I felt after purchasing something from Colonel Littleton and receiving a mini Moonpie in the box with my order. I found the On Running shoes I wanted online but wanted to try them on before buying. I was told High Country Outfitters Buckhead had a great selection. Emily asked if I needed help soon after I entered the store and she was on it. She was very knowledgeable about the brand and made recommendations on styles. She is just the right amount of helpful without coming across pushy. I found a great pair of shoes, socks and a fabulous Patagonia vest. Loved the styles and selection. This store is just charming! Too crammed. Management very pour. Go to REI Not being able to walk around when you're shopping is a pain, you can't get a child's stroller through this place. Not to mention the employees there, they hate their jobs, and clearly don't want to be there. But I'm sure pay must be high considering how pricey products are. A non-chain outdoors store with good selection and staff that knows what they are talking about. A dying breed in the big city, you usually have to go out closer to nature to find a place like this. The prices are competitive with the big outdoors and sporting goods stores, but the selection isn't going to be as mind numbingly large due to their relatively small size. But what they DO stock is the best of the best. Like Maverick in Top Gun. They get a major bonus star or two with me for stocking my favorite style of hiking boots. Which sounds silly, but these are the ones I wore for about nine years and was misinformed by REI that had been discontinued when I finally went to buy a new pair. When I walked into High Country, they were on the shelf all shiny and with a beam of light shining through the ceiling on them as angels sang. Or something like that. Anyway, finding the boots I thought I couldn't buy anymore made me happy and realize that the kids at REI don't always know what they're talking 'bout Willis. read more

I dig this outfitter. Kinda of an odd juxtaposition to the Goodwill and also the area of Buckhead, but nothing to complain about. We've been to this spot a few times now and have been pleased with the selection of brands and items each time. They are one of the largest suppliers of Arc'Teryx, Patagonia, and Mountain Khakis that I've experienced in the area. Picked up a few Patagonia shirts on sale recently and was stoked about the prices. The selection was pretty wide and seemed to house items that I hadn't seen other places before. They also have a massive display and selection of Big Green Egg stuff. Not that I'm a huge fan of it, but it's cool if you're in the market. The staff is super friendly and aren't overly pushy like some places. There's also a really sweet old dog roaming the shop... of which may or may not be the best part about shopping here. read more

It may be a little pricier than ordering online, but the time they spend with you to make sure you make the right purchase matters! This review is for my tubing experience with High Country Outfitters - tubing is one of the many outdoor events you can book with this outfitter. We bought a Groupon for tubing down the Chattahoochee. It was $25 for tubing for 2 people. The major advantage of tubing with this company (or any tubing company) are: 1) They provide the tubes and life vests 2) They shuttle your car to where you get out of the river, so it is there waiting for you when you're done 3) No clean up! You literally hand them the tubes and life vests in the river. No taking them home and dealing with the mess. You can book your trip in advance online. Our whole tubing trip was seamless - from meeting them, having our car shuttled to the end, and getting the tubes back to them and getting our car at the end of the tubing. The normal price for tubing for 2 people is $50. In my opinion, that is kind of pricey (considering you can buy the tubes for $20 on Amazon). If you are going to do a lot of tubing, I'd say get your own gear - you'll save a lot! If you just want to go once or twice, I would definitely recommend using High Country Outfitters. read more

As much as I like the conveniences of the big box stores, everytime I step into a small 'outfit' like this I realize what I'm missing out on. Sure the "ultimate happiness guarantee" is great from those three letter places but the employees at High Country all love what they do and will give you the best recommendations. This place gets a full five stars! They are my go to place for any and all outdoor equipment and sometimes more importantly, information! I used to shop at Dick's sporting Goods or other big box outdoor stores and will never go back for outdoor gear. It all started when I was at one of those stores asking some questions about a new backback I needed to purchase, and the sales associate helping me couldn't really answer the most basic questions about features or use of the product. I left disgruntled and did a google search and found them! Amazing experience, the prices are fair and competitive, and the knowledge of the staff is out of this world. They are all outdoors aficionados in their personal lives and without a doubt want to find you the best gear for the situation. I was an Eagle Scout who also attended all three High Adventure bases and have spent 100s of days in the outdoors. These guys are the tops, and I will be a loyal customer for as long as I am in Atlanta. In another visit I didn't need to purchase anything just had a question about use of something I had purchased and the lady remembered me from other visits, asked how my most recent AT hike had gone, and then answered my question! These folks are a perfect mix of passionate and helpful with a fantastic offering of equipment. My wife and I got into paddle boarding last season and the High Country team has taken tremendous care to make sure we tried, and purchased, the equipment that best fit our needs. They remember us each time we visit the Buckhead or East Cobb store. Customer service seems to be a lost art these days but John and the High Country staff wrote the book on keeping customers happy. Second to none with regards to service at High Country Outfitters! I went by to pick up a harness for my pup as well as a daypack. While there, I asked about dog-friendly trails that were still accessible with the fires in North GA, and they were able to point me to the perfect trail for a day hike. The several times I have been in they have always been friendly and helpful. Prices are on par for any quality outfitter selling high-quality gear. You get what you pay for and I have been happy with the quality I have found for the price. They will be the first place I go anytime I need any outdoor gear. I'll go ahead and offer a 6th star for being dog-friendly... They usually have the owners dog in the shop, and were glad to have me bring my pup in for a look around! read more

Superb Customer Service and Equipment! First, a little background.. I purchased a Groupon to take my family tubing down the 'Hooch - a first for us. I'd like to thank Patrick, Stuart and Davis for making this adventure possible and SO FUN! We originally thought that there were plenty of spots, but when I called to make a reservation, they had all sold out. Stuart followed up with me several times to make sure that we were able to go as planned this past Saturday. He also directed me to the fellows on site, so that we could get accurate info before we made the hour+ drive to the river. Davis and the other guys on site were just great. (he even called me while we were enroute to get our ETA and to let me know they would be waiting for us. ) Just driving to the river had been stressful, not to mention trying to rush around getting everyone ready after they called to let me know there were rafts available. When we got on site, I knew we were in good hands. They were Smiling and funny even though it was upwards of 100 degrees that day, and you Know they'd been out in the heat all day by the time we got there. Plus, they had a couple of difficult customers that were handled very professionally. The official last put in time was 2pm.. We got there right at 2 or a little after and still had to get checked in and take our car to the take out spot. The guys were very helpful even though my driver got lost - they even sent another shuttle down just to get him! (excellent customer service there) We finally got on the water around 3 or a bit after and were so relieved! We had a great journey down the river, the kiddos played - swimming and jumping off the cliffs; the fellow and I had a chance to relax and chill for a bit.. Everyone had a great time ("Thank you honey, this was a most excellent adventure" (yes, we are circa Bill and Ted!) When we got to the take out, there the guys were - getting everyone's equipment out of the water and packing it up. Davis even towed our little caravan to the shore so I wouldn't have to step on the rocks! I will reccommend these guys to anyone that wants to listen and hope that they can take us on another trip - maybe whitewater rafting next time! When I took back a pair of boots that had torn I was told it would take 4-6 weeks to get them repaired. John contacted me the next day and had already overnighted a new pair which I picked up today.
