Think of this like the "Whole Foods" of Haines. It's a cute little grocery store specializing in neat/weird/organic/"healthy" foods. They have grab-n-go backed goods, sandwiches, and burritos. It's pretty pricey. The main pro of this place is that it's reliable. When we were in Haines, it was the only place you could count on getting lunch and breakfast at, every day of the week. The grab-n-go food is expensive and just OK. I'd recommend eating somewhere else if you can help it. read more

A gem in Haines. They have sandwiches and espresso and a small but curated grocery. Fruits, veges, cold cuts, cheeses, breads, pastries and more. Great place to stock up before hitting the road. They also have a liquor store though we stocked up on water and groceries for our road trip in February. We also picked up several of those Tasty Bites Indian food packets for an easy dinner back at our hotel. Snow was falling and the roads are covered but it was a friendly place with a warm vibe. Part of the store had sit down tables to eat your food or enjoy coffee. The place was well trafficked and we recognized several of our Alaska ferry travelers also stocking up. Not sure when we will be back but I'll remember this gem of a store. read more

I usually love visiting this quaint market filled with health foods and delicious ready to-go items.... today was not the kind of service I am accustomed to. I I walked into the establishment and couldn't decide which sandwich I wanted. I selected the cheese danish and asked for another minuet. I finished deciding on TWO sandwiches and the cheese danish and the zucchini bread. Moved towards the register and waited patiently for the gal behind the counter to finish with her current customer. As I was waiting a man walked in and stood where I was standing previously. She looked at me, I smiled and waived, and she turned to the man and took his order. And even let him leave the check out area to get a few more items. No big deal. the real kicker was when one of them asked me if I was waiting for my turn, I said yes, and she told THREE other people, ALL FOUR WALKED AWAY!!!!! I waited for five more minuets.... eventually deciding that the deli food at the grocery store on main was probably more of a sure bet. read more

Great homemade breads, muffins, sandwiches and soups. Lots of different choices! The coffee is roasted on site, aside from a cafe, they have quality health food groceries and a liquor store too. It's the hub of Haines. Tip: Order their large pizza to go when available, super good crust. read more

Mountain Market used to be a gas station, white in color, but its shocking turquoise paint job with the hot pink stripe is fading now, and the store is a Haines institution. If there's something you want, they probably won't have it--but what do you expect in a town of two thousand people, where everything comes up on a weekly barge from Seattle? They may not have what you want, but they'll have something, and it may even be organic. And while you're there you can have a latte and chat with the lady who works the ropes at the ferry terminal, or avoid the eye of the guy who taught your brother, back in fifth grade. read more

This is a small but mighty market! In addition to the yummy items that can be found on the store shelves,there is also a coffee and food bar. There is also a nice little liquor store attached. On a recent trip through Haines I had a grilled wrap, which was super yummy. The next morning I had a breakfast burrito filled with spicy eggs, rice, and black beans. Yum! If you are using Haines as a jumping off point for another journey, Mountain Market would be a great place to go to grab some yummy snacks and sandwiches for the road. read more

I love this place. It's a wonderful place to buy healthy groceries but what I REALLY like about it is the yummy food they make. The soups are always delicous - the coffee is the best. They are also a coffee roaster so buying fresh beans right in Haines is a bonus. The atmosphere is very homey and welcoming. When working in Haines I always visit the Mountain Market several times for soup, coffee and just a nice spot to sit, eat & take a break! read more

This is the place to go for a reasonably priced and wholesome meal in Haines. The food is unexpectedly good considering that the typical restaurant fare in small town Alaska is fried. I drove for two days to Haines to collect my brother from the ferry and I was looking forward to tooling around the town, as I'd never been there before and I do love tooling about an Alaskan town I've never tooled in. Turns out, Haines is pretty buttoned-up in March, all the tourist-oriented businesses having shut their doors in late summer what with the ebb & flow of tourists. On our first night there we asked the proprietor of our cabins where was a good place to eat and she grimaced and winced and thought really hard and said most places were still closed for the winter but maybe we should try...no wait, they aren't open till next week... Luckily, we discovered the Mountain Market the next day. It's a natural foods market slash deli slash espresso bar with a liquor store attached. We ordered quite a few sammiches and wraps there over the course of our long Haines weekend and decided that not only were they tasty, they were really decently priced. A similar sammich or wrap in Anchorage would have cost at least $5 more. The staff were all very cheerful. The customers all seemed happy to see each other. Frankly, I wish they were in Anchorage because they'd kick Sagaya's ass. read more

Haines is a small town. Unlike many small towns, this is one of three grocery stores in the Alaskan town. It also has a deli that serves sandwiches, wraps, and soups. As far as the espresso goes it is pretty tasty, certainly the best in Haines. If you are hopping off the Alaska Marine Highway ferry and heading out the highway and need some coffee flavored fuel, this is the place. Groceries are a little expensive.
