This was my last Alaska stop on a cruise so I was hoping to do some last minute shopping. I scoured the itty bitty town for salmonberry jam, reindeer sausage, and smoked salmon... and boy, was I disappointed when I couldn't find any of those at any of the stores. Feeling defeated I slowly made my way back to ship, when I decided to give this place a go and whaddaya know... they had EVERYTHING I was looking for and more! Bought some smoked salmon (at the best price I'd seen at any of my stops), got my salmonberry jam, reindeer sausage, caribou sausage, AND salmon treats for the cat back at home. We were in Haines as part of a cruise and had heard about Dejon Delights for days before arriving because they had a store in Stagway at one time, and folks in Skagway told us to look them up. The store is very close to the cruise ship terminal, in fact we could see it from deck. The folks inside the store were very helpful, with plenty of samples and advice about what may fit our tastes. Ended up buying smoked salmon and halibut but they were out of the legendary smoked cod. I asked them about fresh salmon to be shipped home and they told us about their shipping program. When we returned home From our cruise, I gave them a call and ordered 10 pounds of fresh sockeye salmon. Unfortunately, due to Fed Ex dropping the ball, most of the salmon was partially thawed when it arrived. I called Jon at Dejon Delights and he immediately contacted Fed Ex then called me back. Even though Fed Ex refused to help out, Jon didn't hesitate to make it right for us. He shipped a nice assortment of smoked salmon and cod worth more than the original salmon shipment. Jon gave me great customer service, and has communicated very clearly with me. I feel he has gone above and beyond to make me happy. The fish products that we purchased in the store and the replacement fish have been excellent. I will buy more smoked fish from him again soon. Can this be my most random Yelp review ever? I went on a cruise to Alaska, and we stopped in Haines. A town with a population smaller than my highschool. I'm a city/suburban girl, so this town was such a culture shock to me. And I was not expecting to be so blown away by Dejon Delights. Three Words: Lemon Pepper Halibut. The absolute best halibut I have ever tasted in my entire life. Do they ship down to California? I swear, if they do, I will order a yearlong supply of that yummy goodness. It is freakin unreal how good it is. It has the perfect, and I mean, PERFECT blend of seasonings -- not too spicy, peppery texture with a tinge of a lemon. Seriously, I cannot speak any higher of this small town gem...you will not be disappointed getting some good ol' Alaskan fish from this place. read more

Their smoked black cod is out of this world!!! They only sell locally caught smoked fish. Let me repeat, LOCALLY CAUGHT! And do you know fishes in Alaska are especially big and juicy and tasty and oh my! I got two smoked black cod, and one big smoked sockeye. I regret I didn't pick up some more. Simple This is the Best Salmon Smoking outfit in South East Alaska

Dejon Delights is a great place to get some excellent smoked salmon and halibut. They offer sockeye, king, keta, and coho either peppered or non peppered. I found all of them were very tasty. Along with the smoked fish, they also sell a variety of other local foods: jams, jellys, maple syrups, and pickled kelps. One is one of my new favorite jams, salmonberry. They have a website so if you don't think you will ever make it up to Haines, Alaska then do order and have something shipped to you. If you do have the opportunity to visit there, don't miss this place if you can help it. I love, love, love smoked Salmon. Salmon in any form really, but there is some magical alchemy that happens when wild Salmon caught in Alaska is smoked with Alder wood. The Salmon from Dejon Delights is actually what I refer to in my Yelp profile as my "last meal on Earth." Yep, specifically the stuff from this place. Now, I know some of you may be looking at the prices for various types of Salmon and getting some sticker shock but my advice is this: if you absolutely must have Sockeye or Coho and can afford it, please do so, but if you want to try something less costly get the Keta Salmon. It's really awesome! When I was there a few years back I got a sample pack with all three. Sockeye and Coho have a higher fat content so being more rich and buttery some people will pay for the good stuff. However, in my opinion the Keta is great tasting, more bang for the buck delicious. I eat it straight, crumbled into an omelette or scrambled eggs (don't even need to salt the eggs!) or with some sourdough bread and cream cheese. Thankfully, I can update my previous review to state I was finally able to make contact with the owners of Dejon Delights who explained and apologized by previous order's failure. And to my surprise, they replaced the entire shipment and no cost! I feel certain that the new owners will continue to provide the highest quality smoked Alaskan fish that I've loved for years now and wil reorder again in the future! read more
