I've already reviewed this place on Google but I have to review here as a lot of people seem to…read moredislike this place. I rented here from June 2007-June 2010 as I was a nervous young adult moving out on his own for the first time, hours from home. Dealt directly with Paul who was very friendly, kind, and understanding. His father Bill was also a great guy to deal with. Paul showed me a unit but when he called the office to get the paperwork ready, it had been rented. No sweat - the downstairs apartment would be ready in two months so Paul set me up with a temporary (and furnished) townhouse for six weeks prior to my apartment being available. On move-in day for the townhouse, I got stuck in a traffic jam while driving down from Pittsburgh and was going to miss meeting the utility people, but Bill went above and beyond by being there and handling them for me while I was in traffic. While the townhouse needed some work (apparently the previous tenants skipped out on a lease and left a lot of damages) it was quite adequate for the six weeks I needed it. Hell, I was only charged for one bedroom for one month, so it was a great deal. Moving into my new place in August 2007 was a snap. Got my keys, and even Paul could detect how nervous I was being out on my own and helped point me to various activities and organizations in town to meet new people. I lived in two different apartments with Riner, one near EMU for two years and one in Bridgewater for my final year (before moving to Buena Vista). Anytime something went wrong, it was fixed within 24 hours. Washer quit on me - replaced the next morning. Water heater failed - replaced that evening. Dishwasher broke - replaced within an hour! I can't say any more good things about their property maintenance. As far as the deposit goes, most places don't typically like to give back deposits and I realized this in my years of renting. Their deductions were fair and while I didn't get all of my deposit back, I got most of it. You have to do your part. All in all, Paul and Bill were great to deal with and I highly recommend Riner Rentals for renting apartments.

I'd give negative stars if I could. They never stop increasing the rent (about 40% increase in 3…read moreyears). They do not respond to emails unless you harass them. Maintenance takes forever and the maintenance guys leave a mess behind them. Tent from anyone other than Riner's Rentals if you can. They really are the worst.

I would like to start by saying they are awful to work with, I was shown a beautiful freshly…read morepainted with new carpet clean rental and was told mine would be the exact same as that one. On move in day the house was filthy and no walls were painted at all. They gave me a credit and was like the owner thought he cleaned it enough.... umm ok. I asked if he would be coming to paint since I wanted it painted they said he said no. Umm ok, when we moved out, I found someone to rent that qualified to take over. They suggested clean the house really good so their turnover was quicker to get him in so I took a entire week to deep clean everything. When I got my deposit back they took money out for a cleaner and to paint the walls, how are you going to charge me for something that should have been done before I even moved in??? I asked for a bill from a cleaning company as proof of the charge and I got some fake looking invoice from their maintenance department wtf? Why is your maintenance department cleaning a house. Also the date on the bill was on the 19th lmfao the guy moved in on the 16th early because they let him. Their communication is the absolute worse they told me they were short staffed to bare with them they would look into it soon and a month later I had to message back mad because it was like the 6th time asking about it. I asked about this in August and it's now end of October and they said the owner decided not to give me my money back for either. If I had money to waist I would get my lawyer to sue them because I have all the messages and pictures of how I got the house and it was notated on my lease when I moved in. If they are charging all their clients for painting and cleaning that move out, then doing neither before the next one moves in they are robbing EVERYONE!!

Overall Experience: Genuinely LOVED the townhouse/community,…read morebut was not expecting the horrible management. Matchbox Realty & Management Services neglects tenant needs, leaving us to handle repairs ourselves, and nearly all students I know lose some if not all of their security deposit. While there are great features--spacious rooms, privacy, and dual laundry--beware of the immense drawbacks of dealing with this landlord before signing. If you live here, plan for at least two years to make the deposit loss worth it, and expect the following: 1. Poor Move-In Condition: We moved into a unit left in unacceptable condition by previous tenants. Despite documented proof/move-in inspection, management "lost" our records, took our entire deposit, and even requested more money. 2. Unreliable Maintenance: Repeated requests were dismissed as "it's normal," even for serious issues. Their approach shows a lack of respect/care, leaving tenants to handle repairs themselves. If maintenance does show up, they charge $40/hour, making it unaffordable for college students unsure of the total cost for simply asking for help. 3. Move-Out Charges for Existing Damages: Left the unit in fantastic shape, but were still charged for the pre-existing conditions we documented at move-in. This pattern of exploitation seems like a common experience for student tenants at Charleston Townes. 4. Lack of Accountability: Matchbox Realty's frequent management changes create disorganization, and tenants pay the price in withheld deposits, unexpected charges, and inadequate maintenance. _____________________________________________________ ***Some of the Issues We Faced*** 1. Moved in with a shredded couch and damaged furniture; requests for replacements were ignored for two years. However, they upgraded furniture only for the houses in the front of the complex, ignoring those in actual need of replacements. 2. Our washing machine was alarmingly loud, and after persistent complaints for two years, it was finally acknowledged, only to be replaced a month before we moved out. 3. A constant squeaking noise in the house was dismissed as "normal", but a maintenance worker later confirmed it was an issue and fixed it. 4. After a tenant was evicted in 2022-23, we requested a lock change for security reasons as they could not verify that their key was returned. Management refused to help unless we paid over $100 for it, prioritizing cost over tenant safety. ***How We Improved the House Ourselves*** Shampooed carpets, manually fixed unstable furniture, dismantled/cleaned clogged sinks filled with years of black sticky debris, and fixed insane garbage disposal odors--all at our own expense. And yes, they left us with that raggedy couch for 2 years:)
