Prices were good! So many beautiful home good things, I wanted to take everything home!!! So clean and organized, the employees were so nice. The bathrooms were huge and immaculate. The BBQ. DAYUM. So delish!!! I loved my brisket sandwich. They're known for their fudge and it didn't disappoint. We bought candy, jerky, pudding, sandwiches, sodas and lots and lots of souvenirs. The variety of items on the shelves is actually pretty funny and some of them look like they have been there for 40+ years. The couple that runs the place keeps a notebook with all transactions hand written in it. You can get homemade deli sandwiches on the super soft white bread that sticks to the roof of your mouth when you take a bite. Nothing fancy but it's nice to get lunch for 2 for less than $10 anywhere these days. They serve breakfast as well but I haven't made it in to try that yet. They also sell fuel but you can't pay at the pump. I would find that annoying some places but it just makes sense here. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of places left like Shelton's.

I thought that was very nice to be concerned, I got to the register and we were talking about me being new in the area and he mentioned that he came from New York, and how much nicer Tennessee was and I made a great choice by moving here. In my neck of the woods, they don't have boiled peanuts very often, especially Cajun style. I jumped at the chance to fill up my own bowl with peanuts and seal it up with an ill-fitting lid. The peanuts ended up spilling all over the floorboards of the car, giving it a peanutty cajun scent. Mmmm. The clerk here was nice- I bought some Coca-Cola, and she reminded me that I should grab a 2nd one, since they were offering a generous BOGO deal. I also came away with a couple bundles of firewood, which was cheaper to get here than waiting until I entered the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which this convenience store is conveniently located outside of. Gas was sufficient, and cheaper than we were used to paying for some of the ride. The restrooms were cramped and dirty. They don't let you use it unless you're a customer.

My Yelp said the closest place was 18 miles away & didn't open until 10a. Also, everything is closed on Sunday in this town. I realized that where we were staying was definitely off the grid. We walked in & on the left was a fresh pot of coffee & a lady baking biscuits in the oven, sizzling sausage in a skillet & eggs cooking as well on the stove top. Also on the left wall was a mini hardware store with nuts & bolts. In the middle & right was a convenience store like the usual gas station, except not so usual. The bathroom is through the cooler & it's totally a ma & pa's kind of gas station & we loved it. We ordered two delicious Country Ham Biscuits & two coffees for $7 & it made our day! I totally recommend this local gas station.
