Outside looks like a neglected grocery/old filling station. My Hispanic dad had eaten there before, so I felt comfortable going there with him. I was prepared to eat some authentic Mexican in a little dining/cafeteria setting. However, when I walked in, it was not only a convience store, but it sold pinatas, boots, clothing, snacks, produce, grocery items, jewelry, perfumes, and cold beverages. Outside was the "kitchen". It was more like a mobile kitchen. No real "waiter" service, but nevertheless, friendly. I had a torta (chicken, avocado, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, onion on pressed bread). Dad had carne asada (with came with corn tortiallas, rice, beans, lettuce, sour cream, slice of queso blanco and a slice of avocado). For the 2 year old, a quesadilla (queso blanco) with rice and beans. We had to get drinks out of the cooler. Total was about $17.00. But this food was AMAZINGLY fresh and much better than the Americanized Mexican. Besides no true "waiter", it was like eating in a variety store. The bathroom was dated and needed a new seat and cleaning. But the experience was priceless! The food here is excellent! Authentic Mexican! We lived in El Paso and it reminds me of the food we ate there and in Juarez, Mexico. We are living in Monterey temporarily and we were not happy that all we had here was a burger king... We stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! We have eaten there at least 10 times since we found them. The guac is fresh and has onions and peppers chopped into it. The cheese enchiladas are fantastic! We have also had the burritos and tamales. Everything was fantastic! They have red and green sauce. The red has a smoky flavor and the green is hot but really tasty! Everything is made fresh! The restrauant is located in a small Mexican market. Kinda of like a Mercado you would find in Mexico but smaller. They have a lot of great grocery finds for cooking Mexican foods. The prices are about 10 dollars a plate and worth it. You get large portions! I highly recommend this place! The staff are very kind and helpful with the menu. 100% Authentic Mexican Food. You can see how clean the place is before you even walk in. Quesadillas is my favorite dish. Owner treats you like family as soon as you walk in the store. I used to love this place. They have the best chori pollo. But the last few times, I've been getting steadily more disappointed. The menu selection continues to decrease in size as the old menus continue to have more items crossed out. And the prices continue to steadily increase. It is very pricey for a little hole in the wall. The menu still says free refills, but the machine is gone and you get a bottle now. No refills. The bean dip is essentially brown water. You can't get a glass of water, just a bottle for 2 dollars. The service has really slowed down. And when I mentioned the placr seemed to be going downhill, she got an attitude and mentioned how it is actually going uphill. Not what I would consider uphill.
