There are agility obstacles, a covered pavilion, benches, a picnic table, and water stations (although they seem to be seasonal). There are several bag stations and they are typically filled, but this trip all were empty. Guessing holiday travel was a factor. We appreciate that there are smaller areas for dogs that don't play well with others, but if that describes your pups, be mindful that there are multiple entrances and pass-throughs. All-in-all, this is a reasonably maintained well-lit patk with astroturf and shade. We've stopped here in all kinds of weather and are grateful to have found it.

This park is the BEST, best being wherever I am right this minute, because I'm a dog and the past and the future mean nothing to me. Hey - smell this gate! It's all double entry so that those small freaky dogs won't get away while you're trying to get the leash off them. And HEY ! Water! There's water right there and you can dunk your ball in it when it gets too many wood chips on it. Best of all - I've mostly got this place to myself, I never have to share with rude dogs who take too many sniffs if you know what I'm talking about. My mom sometimes cheats and we play in the huge grassy area next to the gated park. She is taking a chance but we've never seen The Man here checking tags. Lots and lots of people-seating, including permanent benches and a picnic table. There are ample shade trees too. Though there's no grass, there is a section of Astro turf where the people can avoid dirt/mud whilst standing around. The boulders are a nice touch, breaking up the topographical monotony. It's also nearby Tingley and caddy corner from a great park playground for the kids to enjoy while the parents monitor canines. It looks small when you first pull up, but once inside you find ample space for a healthy run of chuck-it. The only reason I don't give five stars is that there's no grass. I do recognize that grass would be impossible to maintain at a dog park, but somewhere... in Hollywood or Miami or something... is a dog park with lush, manicured greens, so I have to reserve that fifth star for when I find it.

BUT, when we visited to use the wheelchair swings (a rarity in lots of places) - the swings were chained down and there was a sign with a phone number that said to call to have them unlocked. Unfortunately, we had driven almost an hour exclusively to visit this park only to find out you have to call to have the swings unlocked. The saddest part is that they are chained to the ground. So, then you are standing (sitting rather) looking at the possibility for fun, but you cannot use them. Long story short, no one came to unlock the swings although we called multiple numbers. (It makes sense that the swings would be locked as they could potentially be dangerous if someone where to misuse them or leave the ramp down and an able bodied child trip over them. But if this park is going to have a major aspect of its marketing be about inclusion then shouldn't there be a person present at all times to unlock one of the few features that is truly accessible? Let's face it the child with disabilities can't realistically use the slides and various other items able bodied kids can, so perhaps the approach to the swings should be re-evaluated). The park is so beautiful and really looks like a lot of fun for children and families. It is clean and spacious. There is a nice walking path around it. There is a water feature for kids who want to get out of the heat. There is exercise equipment which is accessible. There is even an area for dogs if you insist on bringing yours (although most of the park is off limits to dogs). This park looks great for both adults and children. It is also secured with safety latches on the gates so kids can't accidentally escape. Had we known one had to call ahead we would have. Thus, this is a cautionary tale. The park is fabulous BUT IF YOU NEED ACCESSIBILITY CALL FIRST.

In general, the Parks and Recreation Department in Rio Rancho does a phenomenal job of keeping the parks clean and offering classes for all ages. Haynes Park is is one of the largest and busiest parks in the area. For good reason. In addition to the swimming pool, individuals have the opportunity to play tennis, basketball, toss horseshoes, or simply take a stroll on their walking paths. Haynes also has a huge field which is utilized for organized youth sports, but is usually available for an impromptu game of soccer, football, or my favorite park pastime...frisbee. The well established park also has several huge trees that provide shade to the barbecue goers or parents watching their little ones exude happiness on the playground.
