We have been taking our dog to Mountain View for some time, and until recently we trusted that he was in good hands. That trust has been badly shaken by how his recent, very serious health situation was handled. Our pup has had mild regurgitation issues since he came to live with us, but last Thursday night his symptoms suddenly became much worse. We took him to the ER, where they prescribed sucralfate and recommended an ultrasound. The next morning, we called Mountain View for guidance, and they suggested we take him to DoveLewis in Portland. DoveLewis performed x-rays and an ultrasound and diagnosed him with megaesophagus, which is a life-threatening condition. They prescribed Metoclopramide and told us to get him in with an internal medicine specialist as soon as possible. The soonest appointment we could get with their internal medicine specialist was December 2, and DoveLewis only provided one week of medication. First thing Friday morning, we called Mountain View to ask for a prescription refill to bridge the gap until his specialist appointment. We were initially told this would not be a problem, but that the vet was in a procedure and they would call us back. We waited all day, only to be told at the end of the day that they had called around to various compounding pharmacies, couldn't find the medication, and that we should take him back to the DoveLewis ER for a refill. On our own, we called compounding pharmacies and quickly found the medication in stock locally, as well as available through Chewy. When we called Mountain View back on Monday morning and asked them simply to approve the Chewy request, we were then told they could not write a prescription without seeing him first. To be clear: Mountain View knew he had just been diagnosed with a life-threatening condition by a specialty ER. They knew he had already been examined, had x-rays and an ultrasound, and had been prescribed the medication by DoveLewis. They knew we were trying to avoid a lapse in medication before he could see an internal medicine specialist. Despite all of this, they chose not to help us secure a necessary medication, and we were left feeling that our dog's safety was not a priority to them. Megaesophagus is not a minor issue--a lapse in his medication could have very serious consequences. I was (and still am) outraged by how uncaring and unsympathetic the response from Mountain View's staff felt in such a critical moment. I completely understand that clinics have policies and limitations. However, compassion, clear communication, and a genuine effort to problem-solve for a medically fragile dog were all missing from our experience. Based on how this situation was handled, we no longer feel comfortable trusting Mountain View with his care. read more

NOT for Urgent Care. We've been happy with the care given to several of our cats over the years. However, it was disappointing to be told today "we are too busy to see your cat without an appointment", when she appeared to have something caught in her mouth. To be fair, the Mountain View website makes it clear they are not in the Urgent Care business. Just be aware that even if your pet has been seen here for years, you'll need to go elsewhere for care in an emergency. read more

I saw Dr. Mocca today for an injury on my dog's paw. Dr. Mocca was amazing! She got down on the floor with my dog and treated her injury there. She had a kindness about her that put my pup, and me, at ease. She answered all my questions and addressed my concerns! I cannot say enough good things about my experience at Mt. Took my cat here after some extensive dental work that required multiple medications including a strong opoid, after several days of not eating or drinking properly, for a checkup. Despite my asks and concerns, all that was done after 5 hours of boarding was an antibiotic injection (with no bloodwork to check kidneys/liver) that also carried a side effect of decreased appetite, exacerbating the problem. Thanks to some quick and great help from a personal friend after this, I was able to get my cat to eat a little bit more. The care given to my animal severely concerns me that they will harm other animals. I had authorized all care up to $2500 - this was not an issue of cost, this issue was solely caused by negligent care. I have initiated a chargeback for the services rendered and am looking into further action. Please be careful taking your pets here. read more

WAS THIS A FAILURE OF COMMUNICATION, EMPATHY, & JUDGEMENT, PERHAPS EVEN ETHICS? YOU DECIDE. My 14 year old border collie was scheduled for a teeth cleaning. Mtn. View did her pre-op labs prior to the procedure and while she was in the clinic that morning awaiting the procedure, one of their staffers called "...just to let you know that her lab values show kidney insufficiency. And, we need to know if you still want to have her teeth cleaned?" When I asked what that meant, the staffer made it sound as if this was a routine finding in dogs and that it wouldn't interfere with her ability to go through with her teeth cleaning and again asked if I still wanted to have my dog's teeth cleaned. "Of course," I said -- not realizing until later that my dog's kidney insufficiency was essentially a death sentence. While my dog was undergoing her teeth cleaning procedure, I researched and learned the seriousness of what the staffer had told me on the phone (but had failed to elaborate upon) -- that renal insufficiency in dogs occurs in 4 stages and is a terminal diagnosis. I later learned from Mtn. View that my dog's lab values placed her somewhere between stage 2 and stage 4 and that the median survival time for stage 3 dogs ranged from 110 to 200 days, and stage 4 dogs ranged from 14 to 80 days. But Mtn. View did not disclose this up front when they called to see if I wanted to go ahead with her teeth cleaning. They offered no consultation on this important pre-op lab finding at all. Instead, their priority seemed focused on whether or not I wanted to proceed with the teeth cleaning -- which they completed and then received their $645 fee. Later, following my research, when I called the vet who had performed the procedure and asked why they would still have done a teeth cleaning on an essentially terminally ill dog -- with no prognosis for survival, I was told, "Well, even sick dogs need clean teeth, which helps them fight infections and maintain good health." Really? Would an ethical veterinary practice proceed with a teeth cleaning on a dog they know statistically is not going to live out the year? Why wouldn't you spare the client the expense, and the dog the procedure (anesthesia on an animal with a diagnosed compromised renal system)? Why wouldn't you get the vet on the phone prior to the dental cleaning to have a frank conversation with the client about the dog's prognosis and whether a teeth cleaning, at this point, makes any sense? Why wouldn't you fully disclose the significance of a pre-op lab value that showed the client's dog to be in a stage of kidney failure? Why wouldn't you seek to save your client the $645 fee -- knowing that they may prefer to spend that money on palliative care for their dog who now is facing a terminal illness? When I later attempted to escalate the matter to someone more senior in the Mtn. View practice for further discussion and to see if anyone there was going to be accountable for this "absolute failure to inform" -- my calls were never returned. Ten weeks later, my border collie rapidly deteriorated during a 48 hour downturn and I had to make the difficult decision to humanely euthanize her. She died with gorgeous teeth and Mtn. View got their $645 fee. To me this was an abysmal failure in communication, in empathy, and in judgement -- and calls into question ethical considerations as well. It is worth noting that following the kidney insufficiency diagnosis, staffers at Mtn. View Veterinary Hospital made it virtually impossible to fill a prescription for a special kidney formula diet through PetMeds, requiring me to make repeat trips to their office to pick up prescriptions which they refused to fax to PedMeds. It seemed to me that they really wanted me to purchase my dog's new Kidney formula diet from Mtn. View Veterinary Hospital. Wow. You can draw your own conclusions. read more

I've been going here for about 8 years and have a almost 15 year old dog with some severe heart problems. I get follow up calls after appointments, Rx for chewy prescriptions and a paper Rx for my own to use. It's been difficult with Covid but I never had a problem getting an appointment. Called after my dog Tilly had eaten 2 small earrings and was trying to get an X-ray done. We've been coming to this vet for years, and the emergency vet was charging over 600 total for a visit with X-rays! When I spoke to someone at Mt. View, they said they would charge about 100-150 for an exam and X-rays. So I immediately booked an appointment for the following morning, got the X-rays done, and was greeted with a 300+ dollar bill when I went to pay. Obviously surprised, I asked them to repeat that, which they did, and I about lost it. I paid 150 and told them to have the office manager call me. When I received this call, said office manager was simply calling to set up a payment plan. I told her I wasn't sure why I was on the hook for her employees mistake, and she proceeded to explain that the employees giving the exam/x rays also should have gone over procedure costs with me, which they never did. So 2-3 employees failed to do part of their jobs, and I'm stuck paying the bill for their ineptitude. Having been a customer for years, and having spent THOUSANDS of dollars with them, I'm still extremely irritated by their idea of conducting business. Needless to say, my dogs next appointment with them will be her last, and I'll find a vet that knows how to properly quote people for procedures, or at the very least, be adults and take responsibility when their employees make a mistake. I've been taking my tribe of pups here for years. I'm extremely unhappy with our last interaction. My dog Gypsy was vaccinated there and proceeded to have a very bad allergic reaction of some sort. I called them three times and they were not helpful at all. They didn't seem to care and only told me it wasn't from the vaccination's and to seek urgent care. They wouldn't set me an urgent care appointment or fit me in to have her seen. I have spent a lot of money here as I don't hesitate to seek care for my dogs. I am canceling any further appointments and going to find a vet who cares about my dogs. I am livid about this experience and extremely disappointed in their professionalism. They were my regular vet and the fact that she had an allergic reaction after her vaccines and they wouldn't see her really upsets me and I no longer trust them at all with the care of my dogs I love so much. read more

The front desk staff is very unprofessional, chatting about personal lives the entire time clients are were in the lobby. Also, as a new client from out of state with 3 dogs I provided them with my previous vet information to obtain records and never received a return phone as promised because I had questions about when vaccinations were due so I ended up my old vet clinic to get the information. I scheduled an appointment months in advance ago my dog to see Dr. Fairbanks and called the day of the appointment to confirm because I never received an appointment reminder call, which was something my previous vet provided. When I spoke the front desk I was only informed because I asked that I would not be permitted in the building, a vet tech would come to the car to retrieve my dog (because of Covid19). I understand this policy during this time however, I received no advance notice until I called as asked the day of my appointment. I was also informed that my appointment wasn't with the provider I requested, it was with another Dr. The front desk staff was short, unapologetic and eager to cancel my appointment. There was a total lack of professionalism, customer service and compassion. I cancelled my appointment and will be looking for a new veterinarian for my 3 dogs in the Vancouver area. Dr. Fairbanks is great Dr. it's a shame that she is losing businesses because the front desk staff is unprofessional. read more

Save yourself from frustration!Go somewhere else and don't believe the high ratings! If nice and friendly staff is what you are looking for, sure! this is the place to go. But if you want a reliable vet that you can trust for your babies just keep scrolling and go somewhere else. You won't get that here. We've been going here for more than a year now, not because we are so satisfied with the service we are getting but because of all the good and high ratings. We wanna give them a chance so that maybe we'll experience the same experience others have. But no. Every single time, just frustration from all the mis information they give. You talk to one person and they tell you one thing. Call back or just talk to another person they'll tell you another. Make sure you have a great memory because they'll ask you all the information that they should know and already have coz they won't have that! Make sure you keep all your receipts for every visit coz they will double charge you for a previous visit that you already had paid for. Coz again their records are messed up!It's either their computer system or its the staff are the issue. I just had a text today about my pups test result that it was negative,i called and verified that and the staff said yes it is negative. Few minutus later i got a call from the doctor stating it is positive. There was a time that I got a notification for a prescription refill then I called to tell that during our visit they already gave us the medication (again which they should know) but they dont! So if I'm clueless and just go with what they tell me I'd be overdosing my baby. Also one time, we had a procedure done for our baby. We filled up all the paper work/consent etc that is needed for the procedure prior to the day of the procedure. Guess what?! Day of the procedure they are calling us back to ask all the same information that we already had given them. And they are not even so sure what they are doing with my baby that day! I can go on with all the bad experiences we've had here but I'll stop here. So it's all up to you now. read more

Our puppy (Sansa) has grown up the past three years with Mountain View Veterinary Hospital. Both parents couldn't be any happier with the service, responsiveness, and care that the entire team at Mountain View provides for our little one (who is now not so little at 72.6 lb). Sansa (her full name is Sansa Louise-Marie Rebecca "Lil Bernie" "Flash") has been treated by three different vets and each physician has been 5-star. Dr. Fairbanks has really bonded with Sansa while Dr. Phipps and Dr. Lawler are so caring and loving with Sansa. Meanwhile the technicians and front desk team have been extremely helpful and understanding no matter the "emergency" or "urgency" of the service needed. If there was ever a need for a 6-star Yelp review, it would be the best pet clinic in Clark County: Mountain View Veterinary Hospital. read more

We decided to bring our dogs here as this is a vet with an emergency hospital. However, they very seldom keep their appointments. Almost always have had to wait 20+ minutes for scheduled appointments. They seem a bit expensive. Rarely get out of there without spending $100 or more, even for the basics. We've been bringing our dogs here for years and we've been very happy with the care they have received. The front desk staff are efficient, the vet techs are skilled, and the vets are great. We've been to other vets where the goal seems to be to give you a constant upsell for unneeded procedures, supplements, food, etc. We've never experienced that at Mountain View. They have always recommended medically appropriate care. Currently they have great social distancing protocols in place, so you can get Fido or Fluffy taken care of and protect yourself at the same time. read more

Service was insanely rude. Not only did the staff not confer with me before giving one of my dogs a shot, but they failed to communicate costs before following through with service. And speaking of costs, this clinic is shamefully overpriced. I have never had to pay so much for simple checkups before. Last but not least, my dog was well groomed and smelled nice from a recent bath, but after getting him back from the vet he was covered in grime and stank like someone had just wiped a used menstrual pad all over him! I asked the staff about it, but they completely denied that anything was amiss, or that anything had happened. My advice: stay away from this clinic, and save yourself a lot of money and hassle. We had been taking our pets to this clinic for quite several years, but no more. Unfortunately, the customer service and flexibility are gone. We tried to get our 5-year-old dog in a dental cleaning, which by the way the vet recommended, and they told us we would need to wait 4 months to schedule an appointment, and God forbid you need services sooner - not going to happen. We explained to the reception team, several times, our issue, and that the vet that she saw our dog told us she recommended it asap. The response was sorry, that's the best we can do - a true take or leave it attitude. So, we decided to leave it and found a new vet for our dogs. Too bad that the management team does not realize what this has, and continues to do, to their business. read more

AVOID! For so many reasons... Within the first visit they changed my senior cat's hyperthyroid dose that she had been on for years and was doing well on according to recent blood work (within the past month by another vet) only to change it back to original dosing 6 weeks later after another blood test. They constantly ask me to put her on a renal diet--despite the fact that she IS on a renal diet--which leads me to believe they aren't reading the notes. They don't tell you that they are booking you with a different vet. My cat has a chronic condition which needs to be monitored consistently over time. Constantly having to recite history to bring a new vet up to speed is frustrating. Their solution to everything including sneezing seems to be antibiotics. Most concerning is that she has had chronic urinary issues which they can't seem to explain or have a plan to figure out. I've been told to watch for UTI symptoms. Her urine looking like kool-aid doesn't seem to be a cause for alarm to them as long as it doesn't show bacteria. The final straw was a visit after I had to take her to the emergency clinic. They couldn't get her in for 5 days. After an emergency visit. They scheduled us with a vet that hadn't seen her in over year, who for some reason felt it appropriate to exclaim that my cat is "THE UTI QUEEN!" in the middle of the lobby while calling us back. Then I am told they can't do much for her, but they will go ahead and do UTI test despite her being on antibiotics since her urine looks so bad along with routine blood work. They hurried her into her crate when they brought her back and after I got her home I realized her leg and paw were covered in blood, I'm assuming from botched blood draw. Blood work comes back and I am told no UTI, but she is in early stage renal failure. Their recommendation? Put her on a renal diet... which she has been on for over 8 months. Vet tells me there isn't much else we can do and closes the call with, "good luck." After this last visit, I requested all of her records and can say that those are just as much of a mess as their treatment. And yes, there is more to that can be done. Her new vet actually spotted something in one of her kidneys which may be a stone. I did request one last refill of her medication from them. I won't bore you with details, but they basically accused me of double dosing my cat for over 30 days. They eventually did do the refill, but continued to imply I was double dosing my cat despite the fact that she has been at the same dose for several years. A double dose for 30 days would have caused significant issues so not sure why they just couldn't accept that maybe it was a clerical error on their side. read more

Avoid--We have been taking our two dogs to this veterinarian hospital for years and I've been very happy with Dr. Fairbanks and the other veterinarians but after our interaction with the front desk staff and Natalie today we are taking our business elsewhere. Last week we attempted to call to make an appointment for our dog who is not feeling well, and we understood they were not able to see us on short notice. On Monday, we decided to take her to the Columbia River emergency room (which was great) where she was diagnosed with a likely cancer. She was admitted overnight for antibiotics and steroids with a recommendation that we make an appointment with our regular vet for bloodwork in a few days to see if she was responding to treatment. My spouse called to explain the situation and was given an appointment for blood work on the next Monday. We let them know that the emergency room would be sending over all the records. We were then called back by Natalie who canceled our appointment and said that our dog needed to be seen by a veterinarian in addition to having the blood work which we agreed with, but she refused to schedule the veterinarian appointment in the timeline that the emergency room had recommended the blood work and wanted to schedule us out 2 to 3 weeks, which was not acceptable for follow up. So not only was Natalie rude to me on a call and then to my spouse on a call she canceled a much needed appointment for an established patient and refused to follow the emergency room recommendations. We luckily found another vet who's willing to do the bloodwork and see our dog to ensure that she gets care since she's likely dying. read more

I was a loyal customer for 4 years despite their high prices and poor staff behind the counter, I still went because of Dr. Fairbanks- Today I went in to get flea and tick medicine for my Bernese Mountain Dog and was denied. I was denied because apparently he hasn't been in for an exam in over a year but am positive he's been in last December. The lady who helped me behind the counter said, "My computer is not wrong it just looks like your dog has tons of ear and skin problems." My dog goes there at least 3 times a year. One for his annual exam and the rest is miscellaneous appointments. And they charge me for an exam every time I go in there. Not sure why I was denied? It's almost $200 every visit and leaving feeling disrespected every single time. Not worth it. read more

We have been going to Mountain View for about 30 years. Though those years Dr Dickie was absolutely wonderful. Now that he retired things have certainly changed. Recently, my wife brought both our dogs for teeth cleaning and some shots. The costs associated with the this services were approximately $1,000. When I went to pickup one of the dogs, I asked why was some of the services such as blood work needed. The answer I received was the new hospital owner requires it. I ask if Dr Dickie had the same rule. The answer was "no, only on an as needed basis. There is an old saying "First time shame on you, second time shame on me. They explained the process-got her feeling better and now we have a plan for my beautiful older doggie. I don't know how to put in words the gut wrenching grief we are going through right now. We lost our baby boy less than 48 hours ago. He was the happiest two year old pittie pup you'd ever meet. Our world has been destroyed and we are adrift. These people love animals I'm sure but look elsewhere if your dog requires surgery. He was found to have a belly full of blood afterward after a routine neuter which means something was overlooked. This should not have happened. My only hope is that they do their homework and prevent this from ever happening again so that no other lucky parents don't have to go through what we are going through now. Update. First phone call a week later was to ask for money. Two weeks later we get the carefully worded political apology. A month later they send a bill via usps and promise to pay rocky's CPR and cremation bill in apology for "accidentally" sending the bill instead of the records like we asked for. 2 months later no word, no money, no records. Poor communication and a serious lack of empathy, wondering now why the records we have a legal right to are being withheld after we asked for them. I wish I could give negative stars as they don't deserve the 4 star average they are carrying right now. read more

If I could give them no stars I would. The nail in the casket for me was when I took my dog in for a nail trim. She gets nervous and scared, but never aggressive. The tech took her back and 15 minutes went by. She brings her back out and said she got too rowdy and needed to take calming medicine and come back another day. I thought it was strange because I've never had this happen before. I get back into my car with my dog and I look over and noticed her right front leg had been shaved and it was raw and bloody; they had tried to insert an IV WITHOUT MY PERMISSION OR KNOWLEDGE. THEY DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME AFTERWARDS. That's some really shady messed up business. I switched to a new vet and they clipped her nails no sweat within 5 minutes and my dog didn't even get scared. That says a lot about the staff and business Mt. View Vet runs. read more

We waited some time (4 visits) before rating this clinic and our Vet Dr. Kristi Wubben. As recent transplants to WA state we were concerned over how we would replace all of our care providers. As it turns out, our Dog won first place and scored with Dr. Wubben. He adores here and honestly let's face it dogs know these things. In addition, the office is efficient and we can always get it to see her within a couple of days or less if it's an emergency type of situation. I'm fairly confident the other docs are just as good! read more

If I could give this place no stars, I would. Highly do not recommend going here unless you want bad customer service & shady business. I took my puppy here and he was given a shot without my knowledge and it was the shot I said he didn't need. They also charged me for some flea & tick medicine they thought my puppy needed even though he doesn't have any fleas! It gets even better... they said that the flea & tick medicine was free but I had the invoice saying otherwise & when trying to resolve all of this, their manager called me with no customer service as well. They should be letting people know what services are going to be performed before the services are done. Sad to say we moved away from the area... In the 80's, as a teenager my family used your services because we lived in Ridgefield. We loved you back then. As an adult, I moved into Portland and tried a vet closer to my new home. It wasn't the same. I switched back and willingly made the drive for all of my pets. I can't say enough great things about this place. Dr Fairbanks and Dr Patete where amazing. I had to bring my cat in for a emergency urinary blockage procedure and his organs had begun to fail. I truly believe Dr Fairbanks was as worried about my baby as I was and that meant everything to me. He had to stay two nights with the first night being very critical condition but they took great care of him and he's been back home and back to normal. Everyone was amazing here, the vet techs were sweethearts and I don't doubt that everyone here truly cares about the animals they're helping. I'm so glad I found Mt View. They saved my cats life. I just got ripped off by them. Trying to fill prescriptions on a dog I adopted and they said $153. I said that's crazy can't afford that so I said give me half until I can establish my own veterinary care. So, for half of the pills I was charged $87.10. I questioned the math and was told it was because of a per pill dispensing fee. Again if I got half the pills and a per pill dispensing fee wouldn't it be less than half , not more. They also tried to say it must be the tax, and the woman (manager?) who clearly can't do math said "well that's what it is because the computer said so"! Seriously! I have no experience with the doctors but based on my history with veterinary care, this place is more about the $ than your pet! Save yourself money and frustration, especially if you can do math, and find somewhere else to go! read more

I have been using Mountain View Veterinary Hospital for over 20 years. I have found the level of care and the compassion towards my pet children to be extremely high. Our first regular vet was Dr. Jean Meyer, who is now retired. She exemplified the best in veterinary care. Now our go to vet is Dr. Lawler. She shares a similar attitude towards our pets and has given us first rate care. Recently, due to Dr. Lawler, my big old Hank was given an extra seven good months of life. I would recommend this practice without reservation. It is not inexpensive, but the old saying is true: you get what you pay for. read more

We have used Mountain View Veterinary Hospital for many years. They treat our Dogs, Horses and herd of Alpacas and is the best clinic around we refer everyone to them. Dr. Tom Meyers is great to work with and always gives back to the industry, the staff and other doctors at the clinic are great as well. Buyer beware! We were blindsided by a $439 dental cleaning and polishing for our 14 pound dog. And we were told by a rude receptionist that it was our responsibility to ask how much procedures cost. I won't even get into the terrible hack job they did in shaving our dog... and the attitude of the technician who shaved her. We had our records printed off and we are done with that place. Have gone to this vet for many years but have really noticed quality of service provided by doctors has dropped significantly while prices haven't. Don't mind high prices if it's reflected in service. It's not. Don't go there needing a correct diagnosis and correct treatment. Twice in last few months received wrong serious diagnoses. They diagnosed cancer . We took cat to Dove Lewis in Portland since they are great and are known for specialists. .....first visit diagnosis was congestive heart failure and they created treatment plan for the congestive heart. Cat is thriving now. No cancer. Thought it was a fluke but no. Took our other cat in due to his coughing. Ended up seeing 2 doctors, one diagnosed him with pneumonia and treated w/antibiotic. Had to see their different doc for a follow up. She said it was asthma and even tho both docs commented on enlarged heart in his X-rays - which many times is symptom of congestive heart disease and so is the cough. She still prescribed prednisone to start immediately and told us to take him to a cardiologist to get heart checked but start prednisone now! We didn't know cats with congestive heart disease that are treated with prednisone can exacerbate the congestive heart disease. This killed our precious cat. Again called Dove Lewis for advice since his heart rate was rising and we were uneasy with this. Couldn't call Mt View as it was Sunday night - closed. Dove Lewis said it was an emergency...that he needed oxygen due to rapid heart rate. We had no idea this was so serious as he wasn't acting stressed then but it was just beginning. We left immediately but he had congestive heart failure before we arrived and couldn't be saved. Dove Lewis explained that prednisone treatment with congestive heart (enlarged heart) is known to be death sentence. That Mt View doc's insistence on immediate prednisone treatment while knowing about the enlarged heart is what killed our cat. We are going elsewhere for our animal medical care now. We've been coming here since moving to Washington three + years ago upon the recommendation of friends. Dr. Fairbanks is a good doctor who treats all our boys well. The issue we have is that the front desk staff seems to be ever changing. They are non-responsive by phone and follow-through is a REAL problem. The latest snafu is a prescription called in earlier this week was apparently never relayed to the pharmacy staff and we had to phone in again today to inquire about its status. Dr. Fairbanks aside, if the front desk team can't get their act together we may be forced to find a new veterinarian. read more
