SUPER UNPROFESSIONAL. I'm a first time home buyer and have had a mortgage with MWF for over 2 years, it has been nothing but stress and bullshhh. Never respond to messages or letters, and when you call you are forwarded to a call center where people can't answer your questions and give you different information from what is listed on their website. Update: After 90 days, the buyer still didn't have approval (not due to financial or documentation issues, but because the lender was "backed up.") The sale was cancelled by the sellers so the process is starting over with a new buyer (which affects the sale of three homes so everyone is starting from square one. Last week the file was "escalated" to management and it was finally reviewed by an underwriter with a CTC promised once a new list of documentation was received. Everything was provided within a couple hours and a CTC still has not been provided, a week later. All parties are done waiting and are moving on. The buyer who was working with Mountain West has now lost their deposit and the home they were trying to buy. Original post: So far the loan has been delayed over a month from the original close date, even though it's supposedly been approved. I am not working directly with Mountain West, but their lack of communication and sense of urgency is negatively affecting at least four different home purchases. We are continuously told the borrower has been approved and that they are just waiting on the lender because they're backed up. As of this afternoon, all purchase contracts are going to be cancelled leaving four different families displaced and costing everyone involved thousands of dollars and months of pointless work and stress due to the chain reaction of contingent offers that will fall apart because of Mountain West's inability to perform. Having worked in the lending industry for years, I can honestly say I have never seen or heard of a loan process more disorganized or misleading. read more

I spoke with Brian Daily from Mountain West. He told me he was going to reimburse me for hotel expenses. I emailed him copies of receipts and he told me to "stand by." Over a month later I emailed Mr Daily to check the status for reimbursement. He emailed me back saying that he could not reach my broker ( he wanted to confirm my story). He offered me a settlement of $500. I told him I paid over $1000 in hotel expenses. He emailed me back basically saying since I won't take the settlement, I get nothing and that the case is closed. He didn't even try to negotiate with me. What a waste of my time again. Bad business and very unprofessional. Please do not do business with this bank. They don't take any accountability for their mistakes. read more

About as unorganized and irresponsible a lender you can find. Had my VA loan done by them only to be mislead with fees and told I don't qualify for Home Energy Efficiency upgrades when I did. They sold the loan to another company not even a month in and told me they couldn't explain the loan docs after the sale and to go to the next lender. Others I have talked to told me they were tired of jumping through hoops trying to get a mortgage. What a joke. read more

Only been 2 months and another problem! I made a payment of $64 for an escrow acct shortage. very routine. Mt West took $64 PLUS my regular monthly payment. I assumed I had made the mistake, but was told that when I selected "number of payments = 1" I authorized a full monthly payment. I was told that they hadn't recd the money yet, and I should call my bank. I called and it was too late. Now I have to wait for Mt West to issue an refund. Every person I've talked to has been professional and polite, but their online services are (extremely frustrated expletive) unsatisfactory. read more

Quite possibly the worst lending experience I've ever realized for my buyers. Mountain West is made up of a group of totally incompetent individuals ready to blame their co-workers before they are willing to fix a problem or press the buttons on their keyboard. They never met ANY deadlines and every time we called regarding my client's loan it seemed like the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. They would not inform us if they needed anything from us and only if we called would we find out if they were waiting on something for us. This is ridiculous We are approaching the 60 day mark and not one seems to get it. This is costing my client and the seller money everyday this loan does not close. Don't use them! Don't bring clients to them because you will lose your clients!! read more

Please stay away! This is the most dishonest lender I have ever done business with. MWF was my lender and, upon selling my house they were supposed to refund the remaining escrow funds to me. By the law they were supposed to refund me within 20 days. It's now been two months and they'd till haven't refunded the money. This behavior is criminal and this people will be held accountable for it. read more

Alex and Sean at Mountain West were amazing! They got me to closing in 21 days without a hitch! They were quick to respond to emails and texts as well as caring and detailed in response. Being new to real estate financing I was bewildered by the process, but after working with Alex and Sean I feel as though I just took a course in real estate finance. Alex's mortgage loan calculator was so exhaustive in its variables (e.g. including HOA dues and mortgage insurance) that it not only really helped in finding a home, but also in planning my after-purchase budget. My first time home buying expirience turned into a nightmare. I was left feeling embaraced and sorry. I was approved and went into a 30 day escrow. 36 days went by and i never got loan documents i was just left hanging with no answer. They never told me if my loan went thru or declined. my deal fell out of escrow cause they took so long. Since the beggining it didnt feel right. This place was recomended by my broker but when i decided i wanted to work with another broker the loan officer told me that if i changed broker that they wont work with me any more cause the broker is his buddy. And there was another issue were i needed a gift leter for part of my down payment from some one and the loan officer told me that a gift from a friend was ok but then they were fighting me on that cause then they said it had to be from a family member only. it was things like this that made it frustrating and took even longer. And then i think they lost all my documents i submited. I have asked for all my stuff back i dont know how many times and they just keep tellimg me yea yea but i still havent got it. Next time ill just go to a big bank and try again. read more

Unfortunately I have a mortgage with this company. My agent said that they always use them. I was told that I have a 15 day grace period to pay, which I am very thankful for because I have had to use it. I have never been late though, thank God. The thing that bothers me is that even before the grace period ends they are calling me wondering where my payment is. When I told them I have a grace period their response was that if I don't pay on the 1st then it's late, but without a late charge. That's bologna! So I just ignore them and pay my mortgage on time within the grace period! read more

If you find yourself having them as an appraiser on your loan... CANCEL it. Pure amateurs. I provided comps from 3 local realtors two of whom sold in my building and this guy uses NONE of them. Needless to say I disagreed and two weeks later a different appraiser (without me providing any comps) came in 75K more than this inexpericned hack. Every single comp he used was not applicable for one reason or another and he said that one property had closed escrow and a simple check of the MLS showed it was still being shown. Sloppy. Once I got my credit up she got me pre-approved and I started the house search process... Once I was in escrow Sunnie helped me the whole way through. As mortgage brokers we have abundant choices out there and MWF is a company that has been delivering more or less consitently for me and my borrowers. I have been working with them since around 2009. They offer every imaginable program, especially ones geared to first-time home buyers and government loans. Many things keep us sending over our loans to MWF beyond very competitive mortgage pricing. The most outstanding of these is the customer service. I can always get a hold of a friendly and live person when needed. This actually also applies to underwriters. Most of the time underwriting and other turn over times are speedy. I deal with the San Diego branch and they help facilitate matters as needed and keep pushing to get things done. All in all a top lending choice, not perfect, but still a must have in your lending arsenal. read more

Our experience as first-time home buyers with Mountain West Financial in Redlands was great. Everyone was always so pleasant to deal with and we were always treated as a priority. Any questions were promptly answered and the staff was on top of things 100%. Our main contact was with Sunnie Baltes and she is AMAZING. She made a seemingly daunting task simple and straight forward. If it weren't for her, our deal would not have gone through in the first place. She went above and beyond to resolve issues that essentially had nothing to do with her and were no fault of her own or MWF. Sunnie is an absolute asset  to the company and her passion for what she does really shows. I filled out some information with them on line. An agent from Mountain West Financial contacted me that evening, just as I was rushing out the door to get my son to his appointment. I asked the agent if I could call her back after 5pm and she said she had a doctors appointment but she would call me the next evening after 5pm. I even received an email from her (see below). Hi Michele, We spell our names the same and I'm your loan advisor to answer any of your questions about down payment assistance. I will call u back after 5pm tomorrow, Wednesday June 7th. If you have any concerns before then, please reply back to this email. Look forward to our conversation and have a pleasant evening. I kept close to my phone from 5-6pm so that I could connect with her. She never called and today is the 10th. I find this very unprofessional, disrespectful and I would never work with an organization that has employees who do not follow through. read more

I have to say that I'm not used to speaking so highly of financial institutions. However, in the case of Mountain West, I must make sure people know what a great experience I had-for the most part. The two people who helped me sell and purchase a home were absolutely fantastic!! I can't say enough good things about them. However, those in the loan payment dept are atrocious! It seems like mostly all of these reviews are from people getting a loan and they are all really angry or joyously happy. Well, I am a person who has a mortgage with Mountain West Financial. No problems with securing my loan although my loan officer had to be on them, however my complaint is with Mountain West paying my property taxes which are impounded. In Ca there is always a large tax increase due to the difference of the amount of the property from when the previous owner bought it till the time they sell it. For instance the previous owners tax bill was $850 per year, mine is now $7000. Now I have no problem with this. Its how real estate happens in CA. However, since my taxes are impounded ALL my money for taxes is in an impound account with Mountain West and they are supposed to pay my property taxes out of this fund (as well as my house insurance). When I got my tax bills I realized the the city of LA had billed Mountain West the $850 and the bulk of the bill (some $4000K) was sent to me as a supplemental bill. I called Mountain West to had to listen to every person I spoke to tell me about Mountain West not paying any supplemental taxes, I asked them to release some of the money I have in the account that I would need to pay and they told me, "we release that money in January", which does me no good when I need 4K to pay on December 10th. I put in calls and spoke to managers with everyone going over their "we don't pay supplemental taxes" line but they also do not get me the bulk of the impounded taxes in time to make the tax deadline. I had to scream and yell for them to cut me a check and it still arrived later and I still had to scramble to borrow $4K to play them on time. They said they sent the check to me via Fed Ex, which was a lie and it took more than a week from the time they said there check was in the mail till I received it. All the while everyone i spoke to told me they would handle things which they fid not and then did not get me MY money in time for me to handle my obligations. This is a large oversight for them that they care nothing about. i could changer my mortgager company I would do so in a second. read more

Our loan refinance process was simple, easy and handled beautifully by Nancy and the staff assisting her...truly they are a Team! Details were handled with frequent telephone and email communication. When a new person was going to be handling a component of the process Nancy took the time to call and alert us what to expect and what the person's role would be in the process. I refer all my friends to mountain west and my realtor was so impressed that she uses her too. Great company.. If a person doesn't get financed its because they couldn't be financed. read more

Wishing we could give less than 1 star. The mortgage company was recommended by my realtor and their representative Nick was very helpful in securing the loan. Unfortunately from there it has been a nightmare. We have tried for a month to pay-down and then payoff this so called no prepayment penalty loan and with each and every time being told there is an issue. First they apologized and wouldn't accept our personal check (last I checked it was legal tenderer). Now the latest excuse, the payoff amount given to us by their representative Alexandra and sent via certified check was wrong and wouldn't be credited to our account. They again apologized and said she gave us the current balance and not payoff amount by accident so it is being sent back to us via regular mail without a tracking number. I asked to just post it to the account and we would settle up any deference but in their words the system they use does not allow them to post a check that is equal to the current balance creating a zero sum which will break the software they use??? So here we are hopefully awaiting the return of our certified check in 7 to 10 days so we can redo this for a third time. All the while the expense meter is running at $47.00 a day in accrued interest which equates to at last count an extra $3,000.00 for their mistakes which again they are quick to apologize for but have no issue continuing to unfairly charge. read more

WARNING!!! Do not do business w/ this company. Just like the other reviews before me, they do not care about keeping deadlines. They'll make promises to when things will be done, but when it gets closer to that date, they'll continue to make excuses as to why they weren't able to meet the deadline. We submitted all the paperwork needed from us w/ in a week and then didn't hear anything about the appraiser till almost a month later. He promised that we would soon be signing closing docs after the appraisal but did not do so till 60 days out from when we started the loan. Little do they know that time is money and every second that escrow is pending, penalty fees are growing. When we finally signed the closing docs, we realized that MWF amended the docs without our knowledge (after numerous emails about what we agreed upon, it didn't end up matching the final docs) and it was too late for us to change it. This review is a little late but I feel it's absolutely necessary to give praise when it's due. Back in November of 2015 I had worked with Heather Evenson when I tried to get a loan with Jennifer Roblee. I wasn't able to acquire one at the time. However, Heather gave me some really great information on how to fix my credit, and told me to call her when I was ready. When I finally had done everything needed to fix my credit, I had called her but she had switched departments. she couldn't help me but sent me in the right direction. Because of her effort to so kindly help when I was running out of options and when she wasn't even in that department I was able to get to the right direction which made me want to come back to mountain west for the second time! If I could give a negative star rating, I would. My loan broker decided to go with Mountain West Financial for my FHA loan because they were supposed to be quick in closing FHA loans. Far from the truth. Not only were they slow and unorganized and last minute about their requests, but they were completely unreasonable as well. They first sent a list of 50+ conditions to the loan broker, for a case where the house is 7 yrs old and I have PERFECT CREDIT and in a perfect financial situation to buy the house. They asked for paperwork for little $1000 deposits to my checking account, which anyone knows, even if I did borrow the $1000, that's not nearly enough to get me into this house, so what does it matter? On the day we were supposed to close, they asked for paperwork that was given to them over a month prior. We extended the escrow close date, and two days later, they were still making completely unreasonable demands, like a 2 year roof certification on the roof of the house....it's a 7 year old house, you don't think the roof is going to last for two more years? Come on, no common sense. They were asking my real estate agent to prove that she wasn't taking a certain amount of commission, when it says right in the paperwork that the real estate commission was the standard 6%. Even in this crazy market, where I know banks are being extra careful, all of the agents said that this bank was absolutely ridiculous in their demands, and how last minute they were with everything. They are only inhibiting the housing market and good borrowers from bringing us out of this housing slump. They made the escrow process a complete nightmare, I would never do business with people like this if it were my choice. And after everything, they sold my loan to BofA before I even made the first mortgage payment. Should have gone to BofA in the beginning and saved myself a lot of stress. I'm just glad I don't have to be involved with these people going forward. read more

Mountain West Financial has many programs and will often do loans that other lenders can not or will not do. They approved a loan for us that other lender's would not do. This put the buyer of the home into a nice home for their family so they did not have to rent a small apartment.
