I was passing by on my way back from Whistler and spotted the sign out front the shack that said "Fish and chips" in big letters so I quickly pulled over. They had a 1 piece option so I knew these would be huge and went with that. It was giant! The batter was amazing. Kind of pancakey, sweet and perfectly crunchy. On one loud bite everyone even looked over, the crunch was impressive! Not only do you get great food, but the view is amazing. Such a cute little place practically next to the Britannia Mine Museum. It is a small restaurant or food stand? It looks like a converted school bus or big truck. You could see the front of the truck outside. You place your order inside and wait outside till your name is called. Then pick up the food inside. It is dining out on the patio. Not sure if this is the usual set up, or there also used to be indoor seating before Covid-19. In any case, the outdoor tables were social distanced as some tables were closed for use. Maybe it's me but it seems here in BC there is a lack of good, _cheap_ down to earth burger places. This is a gem which is hidden in plain sight. It's right at a busy corner Hwy 99 and the Britannia arms museum road, and looks very nondescript so you usually just drive by without noticing. The burgers are really reasonable. Juicy and good size. However the treasure is the fish and chips. Really well fried. Good fries too. Everybody goes there for the fish and chips. Clam chowder is good too. I've always passed by this place on the way to Whistler and never thought to stop and try it. Our friend was actually the one who recommended for us to try it. We were on our way to Whistler and we were looking for a quick bite and I remembered this little place along side the road. My friend said to get a single fish, burger and the clam chowder. One line review: Hole-in-the-wall spot tucked just off the Sea-to-Sky highway was worth finding. My wife spotted this place as we were driving north from Vancouver to Pemberton, and on the next trip north (the next day, as it turns out), we made it a point to stop here for lunch. We were glad we did. This place looks to be a hybrid of a food truck and a small restaurant. But it didn't hurt the food. We ordered: - Two piece fish and chips (expertly fried, moist, and delicious) - Prawns, 10 (decent size and done well, but given other options on the menu, we'd probably forego this the next time) Curiously, they were selling loaves of store-bought bread (at a VERY reasonable price); that confused me at first, but given the amount of fried food, I think it might have been wise to pick up one of those loaves to sop up some of the grease. Also on the menu were burgers, hot dogs, shakes, poutine. They have a pleasant outdoor eating area featuring picnic tables with umbrellas. The view was nice, but the food was the main event. They were reasonably careful about the coronavirus restrictions. They had a plastic sheet between the cashier (unmasked) and customers, hand sanitizer available, and some of the tables closed to facilitate social distancing; we appreciated the effort. Cash is preferred; Interac accepted. Service as decent but unmemorable. Parking was free in their dirt lot. Went for a hike in Squamish, so decided to stop by here on the way home. It's really easy to find since it's right beside Britannia Mine. I arrived around 12pm and it was already busy. I assume the woman working today was the owner. She was the playing the role of cook and cashier, so she was definitely busy, but it only took around 10mins for my food to be ready which was great. She was really friendly. You could sense that she may have been overwhelmed by the number of orders she had to take and make but she did an excellent job managing. Not sure how people could give this place 1 star. You can't come here expecting fine dining, especially with increased Covid protocols. It is visibly a diner style setting. I got the Mountain Burger and small fries. The Fries are standard handcut, which by no means is a bad thing. They're like Whitespot fries, but crispier. The burger was awesome. Flavour cheese and juicy patty. This is a spot that I could see myself driving out of my way to eat at on a nice day and I live in Coquitlam. read more

Holy cow, this place is awesome! Just what you'd hope for as a tourist in Canada. Dive bar type of feel, the kitchen is literally inside a school bus, enough room for like 5 people to eat inside. Now for the best part. The FISH & CHIPS. OMG. We're from Oklahoma and I've never experienced such buttery, flakey, fluffy fish in my life. Kids had plain hotdog and burger and they asked for seconds. Only issue was the owner getting mad because we parked next to her car, were no signs of "no parking" were posted. She told us "no one ever parks there"...well that's great, but how do you expect us to know? There was enough space in between cars for our SUV to fit and then get down comfortably. She even said "don't scratch my car". Ugh. The restaurant is unique and after she saw we were parking to go to her restaurant her demeanor changed and was very nice. Place needs a good cleaning, pure filth. The lady? that took our order was RUDE. So rude, my 12 year old made note. Prices were 50% higher than the quality served. Hmmm--I'm so torn between a three and a four on this one. To front load it, for those who are doing a quick search for eateries in the area: the burgers were good; they lost a star because guy taking the orders was surly and not particularly pleasant. It was the service that brought down the experience, not the food--and presumably it would be different people serving on different days, so you should definitely give it a try. More detail: The food was good--I had the fish burger, which consisted of a piece of fish (of the same sort that is served in their fish and chips) in a bun with some lettuce, cheese and tartar sauce. It was standard in that sense--but the fish and batter were delicious and had a very light flavour, and overall it was a tasty sandwich! My husband and I also split a poutine which was tasty in a fairly standard way (it's the same kind of gravy they use on the Wendy's Poutine, which isn't my favourite flavour--the restaurants that serve Quebecois food generally use a different gravy that has a more pleasant flavour. But then, I don't think it's fair to compare a cute, roadside stall with a specialty Quebecois restaurant as regards poutine). My husband had the Mountain burger, and I tried a bite: the burger itself tasted freshly made and the dressings were good--tomato, lettuce, cheese and so on. Also worth noting: the cheese seemed to have been hand sliced from a block of actual cheese, rather than the usual pre-sliced stuff that is used for burgers--a nice touch, I thought. The view is also remarkable (see photo)--the day was gorgeous, and so sitting on the patio presented a million-dollar vista of mountains and water. I can't think of a place I'd rather be eating, and I was so glad they had such a nice patio, so we could enjoy the perfect day! The thing that pulled it down was the service. While the "mountain woman" of the name, who I assume was the person doing the food prep, seemed very nice, and smiled when we made eye contact, the guy who was actually taking the orders was unpleasant: no smile cracked, rather surly and minimalist and borderline impatient in providing answers when we asked for details (e.g. "What's the difference between the mountain burger and the deluxe?"--apparently the former has a bigger patty, btw), careless in ringing in the order (he forgot to add in our poutine--which we only discovered when it didn't show up with our order, so we had to order that separately, and wait, while the rest of the food was already out and ready to eat). I wasn't there for it, but my husband seemed to feel the guy wasn't very gracious about his oversight (cause yeah, no-one's perfect, but then he wasn't even nice about forgetting. Also worth noting that it wasn't super busy at the time, so the fact that he got our order wrong, as well as his subsequent surliness couldn't even be put down to being frazzled). In general, I get that maybe his being the guy who takes orders at a roadside burger place might not be his life's ambition, but if I'm to assume he's being paid to do the job, then surely he could summon up enough courtesy to be professional and friendly with some of the many strangers passing through? Given the other reviews, it seems this surly service is atypical--the service at other times is evidently better--so maybe that was different staff, or this guy was having an off day. Regardless, the bottom line is that the burgers are tasty and fresh--and the view is sufficiently stunning that I'd still recommend giving this place a try, of a sunny afternoon, should you be passing through Britannia Beach around mealtime! read more

I usually hit this place coming back from a day of skiing at Whistler. It is certainly a unique experience...not so many of these chip stands left anywhere, really. Britannia Beach has much to offer in the way of roadside attractions! A Great Little Homestyle Lunch Stop I've been passing this place for nearly 23 years, and have been meaning to try this place out. Finally today I made it in, and I wasn't let down. I had a homestyle cheeseburger that wasn't anything fancy, just delicious and well worth the few dollars. The fries were also fantastic - crispy and delicious. After sitting down, I realized that they made real ice cream milkshakes, so I went back up to get one and it was also awesome. Simple decor, nothing fancy, just a down-to-earth kind of place with good food. The staff were also super friendly and great to talk with, which made the overall experience very enjoyable.
