On our (family visiting from England) way to Whistler, we stopped in Brackendale (Squamish) for breakfast. We wanted to fuel up on a big brekkie for the day ahead. I had not ever passed through this particular area of Brackendale, as I would normally bypass it via the highway to & from Whistler. The Crabapple Café had popped up in my news feed a few months ago & I tagged it. It is a small restaurant that will get packed in so arrive here as early as you can. They thing about this particular community, is that most diners are heading to Whistler or Vancouver, so depending on when you arrive here, your table wait may not be that long. Our waitress was excellent - gave great recommendations. Our breakfast orders were excellent. I'm fussy when it comes to pancakes. However, I had absolutely no fuss over the pancakes here - they were on point spectacular - fluffy & tasty. The bacon was fantastic. If you're heading up to Whistler, make this a stopover indeed. It's such a quaint restaurant with incredibly friendly staff. The service is truly second to none! A special shout-out to Carlo, who was so accommodating and made our experience even more enjoyable. The food was excellent as well. We dined here with our kids and drove over 100 km to get here, and I can honestly say the drive was absolutely worth it! The pancakes are the headline act--huge, fluffy, unapologetic, and exactly what you want when you're leaning back in your chair wondering if you should order another coffee or surrender to a food coma. And if the night before got a little loose, the double Caesar is a public service: bracing, restorative, and delivered without judgment - oh my aching head. This place...there's something really special going on here. Either the owner is a professional chef with years of experience, or the people here have some natural gift for making a great dining experience. Let's start with the place. It's small but expands outside to a covered area, which is probably 60% larger than the core interior. Pretty smart. The ambiance is casual and homey. No complaints about anything inside--simple and logically laid out. The servers order on iPads and use Square, so you get contactless payment if you want. The servers were quick to greet us and took the order for our beverage of choice. The coffee was strong--perhaps a bit burnt tasting--but drinkable. My other half had tea, which is served in a proper teapot with loose-leaf tea--she loved it. The menu is just the right size without too many options. You have an array of Benedicts, omelettes, bowls, and a few traditional-style breakfast plates. There were many items with beef short rib, so I assumed it was some sort of House Specialty. I ordered the Beef Short Rib, Horseradish & Caramelized Onion Benedict. My other half ordered the Chorizo Sausage Hash. I noticed many of the same ingredients come in different forms. This is smart and another sign of a professional/smart restaurant operator. Both of our meals were quite delicious. My Beef Short Rib Benedict was outrageously good. The flavors were exceptional and surprising. The cook was perfect. I'm a fast eater, but when I love the food, I slow it waaaay down. My date was very surprised at how slowly I was eating and commented on the fact! Even more remarkable, when I stuck my fork into the other poached egg, after taking a long time to eat the first one, and the egg was still runny! How did they cook these so perfectly?! Nevertheless, the big story here are the flavors. Simply unexpected and delicious. I'm repeating this point because it's not really describable for me how good this Benedict tastes--the complexity is brilliant. I had a bite of the Chorizo, and it was also very, very good. Anyway, I often grade things on a curve, and for this sort of place I'd go 5 stars if it's better than the usual cafe. It if was possible to give this place 10 stars I would--it's simply that good! Walking in there is a sign that says "your lips deserve our pancakes". They are absolutely right. Best pancakes i have ever had. They are thick fluffy and delicious. They have multiple toppings that you can choose from. I also had their usual breakfast, two eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage. It was as good as you would expect it to be but those pancakes are absolutely the star. Im sorry I didn't order more of them. This spot wasn't our first pick. The brunch spot we initially visited had such a long wait time that...we were too hungry to wait so we came here instead; other people also had the same idea cause we recognized some familiar faces racing us into the cafe when we arrived. Needless to say, for a weekend prime brunch hour, we were surprised to get seated right away. It was already off to a great start! We were seated in their indoor space. It was warm enough that they also opened the patio. Half way through the meal, the inside of the restaurant did get a little warmer and there was no air circulation in the restaurant so we imagine that it might be better to get takeout instead in prime summer temperatures.... We got breakfast sandwich and their featured breakfast mac and cheese. They also had daily boozy specials so we also got a beer. The breakfast sandwich although has a long list of ingredients, the flavours were a little underwhelming. There could have been more aioli sauce as you could not taste much of it. Although it could be semantics, the menu said it's served with hash browns so we were expecting some greasy shredded/chunky hash browns but was a little disappointed when they turned out to be potato wedges instead. While yes, they're both potatoes, we were mentally prepping ourselves for the crispiness and grease that usually comes with hash browns Breakfast sandwich aside, while we don't usually order pasta for brunch, we were so happy that we got their mac and cheese. It was "simple" and cheesy with little tid bits of meat. It was hearty and comforting and exactly what we needed. Although I'm lactose intolerant, I thoroughly enjoyed the few bites I had. We still talk about the dish to this day. Overall, with the limited breakfast spots in the area, we will definitely be coming back to try their bennies and breakfast hash dishes, and fully prepared for those potatoes chunks. read more

Another excellent find courtesy of Yelp. Lovely back patio which is mainly shaded. Friendly though slow service. Tried the crabapple cafe burger (caramelized onion, sautéed mushrooms) and the California burger (spicy mayo, tomato, avocado) and both were excellent. I personally preferred the California burger which was super balanced. The side salad was surprisingly flavorful and excellent, and came with cucumbers, sunflower seeds, tomato, carrot, and mandarin oranges. The poutine was fine but I'd probably skip next time. The bennies and hashes at other tables looked great. Excellent drink specials ($7 mimosas on Saturdays). The place is has an authentic and comfortable feel, makes you wanna relax there and enjoy a good meal. The service is friendly, timely and helpful. The morning we left Squamish, we stopped at the Crabapple Cafe for breakfast. I had a hard time deciding what to get, as there were so many tasty options, but in the end I went with the smoked salmon eggs benny, coffee, and a couple of mimosas. Damn, the smoked salmon benny was DELICIOUS, probably the best eggs benny I've ever had. It was SO GOOD. Everyone else also enjoyed their meals. In addition to the absolutely delicious food, the service was excellent (we received our food surprisingly quickly), and the restaurant was just the cutest restaurant ever, with a great ambiance. It's a red, wooden building, and half the seating area is inside, and half is technically outside, but it still feels like it it is inside, as it is enclosed with a roof. There were also heat lamps (which were off, of course), in the outside portion. Unfortunately I couldn't get photos, but trust me, it was a cute little restaurant and I really liked the space and decor. If I am back in Squamish again, I would definitely go here again for breakfast. read more

The chorizo sausage hash was amazing, a generous serving, and perfectly well balanced. It had guacamole, toast, sausage, potatoes, poached eggs, and and an assortment of vegetables. We cleared the plate immediately. The French toast was also delicious, as it had home made whipped cream and sweet powdered toast with syrup. Very satisfying, we also cleared the plate. And the mocha! It was a large cup of a very well presented sweet mocha with whipped cream. I drank it all, it was that good.
