If you want to discover hidden eatery gems in Squamish, then Kululu Cafe must be on the list. Kululu Cafe is a small Japanese cafe which serves healthy and fresh ingredients. Their poke bowls have higher popularity in the community. It is not hard to tell the chef has put genuine effort into the presentation, even a simple dish. The dishes look as good as they taste. Tuna Trio Bowl comes with a generous amount of tuna (including regular tuna, tuna belly, and spicy tuna). They load with fresh avocado, vegetables, and fish roe. Best poke bowl ever; you won't find a better place. Chicken Udon loads with mushrooms, tofu, vegetables, and half a boiled egg. We are in love with the warm udon soup. It tastes like a depth of flavour of shitake mushrooms. Simple and tasty! Kululu Cafe is a must-stop place if you are in Squamish. BOOKMARK this place for your next trip. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Price: $30-50 for two (lunch) Presentation: 3/5 Parking: 3/5 Tips: * has vegan free options. * can enjoy beautiful mountains view when dinning at outdoor tables. * sells Japanese groceries in a corner section. Tuna bowl (half size) $8.50

This was a spot that our group stopped at on our way back from Whistler. It's location was quite close to the highway, but is also surrounded by a couple business buildings. We came here for a late lunch after a hearty breakfast, and was quite happy to see that they had half portions available. We ordered a salmon and tuna poke bowl (half size - $8.50) and saw that it also comes with edamame and apple slices. It was not a traditional poke bowl that you may see in other places -- instead, they utilized clean and fresh vegetables / greens. I really appreciated the refreshing taste of this bowl, and I can tell that they use very fresh ingredients for their items. Both the salmon and tuna were not fishy at all and both compliment the vegetables very well. The rice base was cooked perfectly and had a blend of quinoa and millet as well. For someone who doesn't like quinoa, I liked the rice they provided here! There was a light sauce (similar taste to soy sauce) that enhanced the flavours of the ingredients. For a small eater like myself, the half bowl was definitely enough (and more)! I did not feel overly bloated after as it tasted like a healthy meal. Kululu Cafe has very generous portions and fresh ingredients for an affordable price. I would definitely come here again if I am in the area!

Heard about Kululu from our Airbnb host and decided to check it out for dinner as it was only a block away from the house. Initially we thought it was a poke place that we usually see in California, but it was more of a Japanese restaurant that served different types of food (udon, rice bowls, salad, etc) and beverages (teas, beer & coffee). The lady who took our order, who I assume was the owner, was very friendly and answered my many questions about the tuna bowls. We ended up ordering a bowl of udon and the tuna trio bowl. Both of us LOVED our order. All the the ingredients in my tuna bowl (tuna, vegetable & rice) was so fresh & tasty and my wife's udon bowl was amazing. Visiting from California we've had fair share of Japanese cuisine and this little place definitely exceeded our expectation. Highly recommended!

Nothing like a cold tan tan noodle in the summer or after a hike in Squamish! This is a little out of the way from the main road, just a little farther than Shannon Falls but would definitely recommend you check it out. We ate outdoors looking a the beautiful mountains.

Tuna trio! Tuna, toro and spicy tuna

This is more of a 3.5 star for me but rounded up to a 4 since the fish quality was pretty good. Anyways, after a day on the slopes, we were famished and stopped here to try a couple different bowls on our drive back. I got the tuna trio which was a mix of tuna, toro and spicy tuna (about 2 pieces each). The tuna was delicious - melted in my mouth and one of the better cuts I've had of pure tuna! The toro wasn't as flavorful or fatty as typical cuts would be, but still pretty good. The spicy tuna was ok - a bit stringy and sparse on meat and sauce - seemed to be using more the leftover scraps of other cuts of fish with stringy sections. However, I overheard that I got the last tuna trio bowl of the day so perhaps the fish quality would be different had I come a little earlier? Everything was served with a handful of fresh veggies atop some purple rice, which worked well with my tuna trio bowl, but seemed to overwhelm the marinated poke my friend ordered. Regular sushi rice would have been better for the latter. For $3 extra, you could make items into combos (an addition of go-mae, miso soup and edamane). The miso soup had a veggie in it that tasted kind of like wintermelon, which was a little unexpected for miso. Go-mae was a mix of bok choi and beans, which was different and nice with the peanut sauce. Overall, everything was presented beautifully, tasted very clean and didn't need too much sauce to be flavorful. I liked that. Customer service is also very friendly and seemed to garner a steady stream of locals who came by with their families. Menu reflected an interesting variety ranging from kid friendly items/sizes, fish, roast beef bowls, sobas, currys, udons, and even coffee - all appetizing yet a strange potpourri mix - not quite fusion. They also promote the health benefits of their food and drinks, and I was curious about the chaga tea / latte (a mushroom that reportedly has a powerful antioxidant and healing effect), but didn't get to try any of their drinks this time around. All in all, we enjoyed our meal, but we weren't necessarily blown away by it either. It is also a bit off the beaten path and takes some effort to get here, so I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back here too often, but when I do, the curry noodle udon is next on my list to try!
