It's clean and the staff were exactly what you want in a diner with friendliness and hospitality. I went with a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant with some well done potatoes. My friend had the scrapple with some scrambled eggs. I also had an orange juice. The orange juice I did not care for. Definitely not fresh squeezed. But the sandwich was excellent along with the potatoes. My friend also loved his coffee and scrapple with egg. Mountainhome Diner is a classic American diner restaurant that opened in Cresco, Pennsylvania in 1956. Over the decades, it has been operated by a number of different owners. The current owners since 2017 are husband and wife restaurateurs Ali and Etab Abullattif. The enormous menu features classic staples such as omelets, pancakes, eggs benedict, french toast, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast wraps, salads, sandwiches, paninis, burgers, seafood entrees, steakhouse entrees, and various Italian specialties too numerous to mention. My family and I visited Mountainhome Diner for lunch on a recent trip to the Poconos. It was actually are last morning on our trip and we were looking for a place to grab lunch before making the drive back to Connecticut. We had driven past the diner several times on previous visits to the area, but had never visited before. We decided to give them a try. It seemed like a classic American diner that you could find just about anywhere. There's no website, no social media accounts, just good old-fashioned diner staples. The staff were friendly and accommodating and they seated us at a booth. A go-to dish that my wife and I both like to get at classic diners is a Greek salad, and Mountainhome Diner's "Big Fat Greek Salad" (chopped iceberg lettuce, crumbled feta, olives, tomato, onions, peppers, grape leaves, house Greek vinegar) sounded like it was just what we were looking for. I ordered mine with gyro while my wife ordered hers with chicken. Those salads really hit the spot! For our sons, we looked to the Kids Menu. Our older son had the "Hot Dog with French fries" while our younger son had the "Chicken Fingers with French fries". They were both very happy with their dishes. Food and service always good and can't be faulted for diner fare. The reason for the one star is due to the unprofessional behavior of one employee who was there on Sat 9/6. We were there early for breakfast and our server was friendly and competent. But who the hell was the other staff member who spent the time we were there hanging over the counter speaking loudly to her buddies sitting up from us. Do we really give a shit about your upcoming vacation and what your passport looks like! You want to talk personal topics, do it in your living room and not in front of customers trying to enjoy breakfast. Totally oblivious to the needs of diners whilst continuing to discuss matters we really don't want to hear. Take it out back if you must. This behavior ruined an otherwise nice morning. She needs to go. Yes we are locals before anyone comments. This is what is wrong with towns like this. Subpar employees who do not understand boundaries and workplace etiquette. Owners take note. Cannot say enough about how our experience was. From the service to the quality of the food, we both left with smiles on our faces, wishing we could go back if we weren't there as tourists. They seemed to have some Greek options (big Greek Diner energy) that we didn't try but looked amazing on adjacent tables. read more

Came here for breakfast with a large group. The restaurant was very accommodating however we had to ask for a high chair a couple of times and eventually gave up waiting and got our own. The food was very affordable! With 10 people and the bill came in under $100! Granted three of us didnt get a full meal bit still everything was very cheap! The food was very average. Not the worse or best we've ever had. Hubby however did love his gyro breakfast. The pancakes were just okay and the sausage patties were on the salty side. read more

Avoid this place like the plague! Cockroaches running up the walls (a friend saw this) ... shutting down even at the hint of snow and today was the final straw. We had a power outage (one town away) nd I went there to get coffee. 2 large cups of black coffee was $6.50 .. I mean are we SERIOUS? $3.25 a cup for coffee when everyone else in town is under $2. These people don't know what they are doing and they are 'trying to saves their asses' by overcharging people for stuff like coffee. I have been a customer of the Mountainhome Diner over the past 50 years. I have many good memories, good food, service and fair prices.

Food is delicious!! If I want blueberry pancakes for breakfast this is the place I go. Service is normally excellent. Very friendly staff. Sometimes the staff it's overwhelmed and although they do the best they can, the customer sometimes get snippy. Nice quiet restaurant. Well maintained. Excellent food would highly recommend Prices are your average corner diner restaurant. Parking alongside the restaurant is adequate. There's a parking area behind the restaurant. The diner is on a corner so people sometimes miss the side road and cut through the parking lot. So I would advise caution when pulling out of a parking spot. read more

The chocolate chip and Oreo pancakes were really good, the Eggs Benedict were good (though my hubby said it could've used a bit more hollandaise.) Not sure if this is a mom and pop shop but its a diner... as the name indicates. We went during breakfast rushhour so service obviously was gonna be lacking... place got packed... but food came out in time. Food is breakfast food, i didnt find anything spectacular or anything underwhelming... the pankcakes and waffles were good but again nothing to brag about. This was a great find while on our little Pocono vacation. A top tier diner amongst the mountains. We enjoyed our dinner so much we might go back again before we leave. We were staying locally and searched for good breakfast spots. This place got very good ratings so we gave it a try. It is a nostalgic diner with very good service. Our breakfast was very good. I got the Alpine omelet which was very good. My man got the he man breakfast that included pancakes. They were very good. Really, the best part was the incredibly kind service. The hostess actually almost ran out the door after us apologizing that she hadn't asked how everything was on our way out. Btw, she did tell us to have a nice day in our way out but felt bad she hadn't asked how everything was so she came out of the diner to ask us. Lovely people working hard to make a nice breakfast experience for their customers. That's a rare quality these days. I gave it 4 stars because it doesn't have a modern updated look and feel. The service was very fast; the waitresses were super attentive and they always checked in on how we were doing! No one's order got messed up even though there were so many people. Big surprise being so far from home. So friendly, super clean, greeted, seated and served with smiles and with understanding. Ran through a couple of questions then placed our order. Best part, Christine never said no once to our inquiries. We shared their pesto omelet, they did use egg whites with one full egg as requested, no toast, no home fries and they did give me a slide of sliced bananas. My wife had a short stack of pancakes with Strawberries mixed in the batter. Both dishes very good. Even the coffee and I am very particular about my java.
