If you're looking for a fun, comfortable, outdoorsy stay in the area, check out the Postcard Cabins instead! THE GOOD: The property is located in a beautiful area. Views are great. I really like the food at Bearr Appetit restaurant -- kudos to the chef! THE BAD: Customer service is poor. I get the impression management must have simply stopped caring at some point. Example 1: I tried contacting the property multiple times before our reservation. Half the time, nobody answered the phone. I left a voicemail once and nobody responded. The two times someone answered, they promised to call me back with an answer to my question, but never did. Example 2: The morning of July 4, only one server showed up on time for her shift at Bearr Appetit. The poor girl was HUSTLING to keep up with multiple tables, indoors and outdoors, in hot and humid weather. I'm standing alone at the host stand waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes. A manager (owner?) is sitting at the cash register counting the money. Finally the manager/owner stands up, starts heading the the kitchen, sees me, and asks, "Are you waiting to be seated?" I say yes. She POINTS AT THE POOR WAITRESS who's struggling to keep up and says, "She'll be right with you." Then proceeds into the kitchen. Finally I asked the waitress if I should seat myself, which she appreciated and agreed to. Example 3: Upon departing 2 nights early due to the condition of the property (discussed below), my wife wrote an email explaining the issues and asking if they'd refund one night as a compromise. It's been a week now and we're starting to doubt we'll ever get so much as an acknowledgement. THE UGLY: My wife and I stayed with our dog in the Speckled Owl cabin. It's a good sized, secluded property, but it soon became clear to us that management puts minimal effort into maintaining it. Example 1: The first thing we noticed was that the ground floor was COVERED IN DEAD MILLIPEDES. We immediately called maintenance, who promptly came to vacuum them up. But in less than 24 hours, the floor was COVERED IN LIVING MILLIPEDES. This made the first floor basically unusable to us. If we needed something from the kitchen we had to tiptoe around the bugs. By Day 2, the millipedes were migrating upstairs to the bedroom. (That's when my wife decided we needed to go.) Example 2: Enormous cobwebs everywhere, inside and outside. Example 3: Patio and terrace furniture was filthy and disgusting. Bird poop and other crap all over the chairs and tables. Example 4: Linens and towels were old and worn to the point that we wondered how clean they were. Example 5: The mattress was awful. You can feel the the springs and if one person moves, everyone moves. Bottom line, we were extremely disappointed in Lydia Mountain Lodge & Cabins. We feel there's a lot of potential to make this into a special place given the wonderful location, but that the current ownership/management has no real interest in the guest experience.

Final update (for real): I did receive another return call from a manager this morning (after I…read morecalled) and I was able to answer it. We discussed the customer service aspect that this whole experience was lacking. The original issue was not the lack of a transparent policy, of which we had followed all rules, it was the automatic assumption that we had broken those rules based on limited evidence and without contacting the customer directly. Then the resulting customer service experience was a failure because instead of returning my phone call, I received another email that again was not informed by any discussion. I am glad the issue is resolved and hope that this situation will help promote a better experience for others in the future. Last update: Marriott did attempt to call me back yesterday but I was not available. I still have not spoken to a manager, nor explained anything from my perspective, but as a "gesture of goodwill" the charge was removed. Updated review: With no call from a manager and without them asking for additional details, I received another email that said that "our team is trained to distinguish between residual outdoor fire smells and odors associated with tobacco products inside the cabin" and the charges stand. I once again called to speak to a manager and one is not available. I am supposed to receive a call back "later." To be clear, this is not about the actual nominal charge, it is being charged when we do not smoke and are being accused of smoking cigarettes or other tobacco products inside the cabin when in fact it was fire smoke, without the benefit of asking for any details from the customer.

Our cabin had queen-size bunk beds, a kitchen with a refrigerator, two-burner stove, a sink, and plates, cups, and silverware for four. Pans, bowls, and a tea pot, too. It also had a small bathroom with a shower. Management texted us daily to check on us, including if we needed anything. They restocked the firewood daily, along with fire starters and indoor supplies like coffee, hot chocolate, and a S'mores kit. The campground had a nice hiking trail, which we enjoyed, too. We had a great time and would go back.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay, the views of the mountains were gorgeous! We like to get out in nature and the hiking trails nearby were awesome, White Oak Falls probably being my favorite. There were quite a few local wineries that were also a treat. The House was very comfortable, it rents by whole house or by room, and although we only rented a room, we got lucky and had the whole house to ourselves that weekend! The kitchen was nicer then my kitchen and such a pleasure to cook in. :) It was tastefully decorated, our bed super comfortable, we felt right at home. Grilled on the patio one night and enjoyed the sunset. It's nice to have a change of scenery! I plan of staying at the Hood House again, and would happily recommend it to others!

The House is situated at the foot of beautiful mountains, with spectacular views. There is a lovely en suite bedroom on the first floor, and 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor. Each large room is beautifully decorated with vintage furniture. The living room and dining room are big enough to host a party, and the kitchen is ready for a chef. If you're attending a wedding at the nearby Early Mountain Vineyard, this is the perfect place to stay; roomy enough to accommodate an entire wedding party. Our guests loved the Hood House, and so will you. It is a real 'winner'.....

I rented here from June 2007-June 2010 as I was a nervous young adult moving out on his own for the first time, hours from home. Dealt directly with Paul who was very friendly, kind, and understanding. His father Bill was also a great guy to deal with. Paul showed me a unit but when he called the office to get the paperwork ready, it had been rented. No sweat - the downstairs apartment would be ready in two months so Paul set me up with a temporary (and furnished) townhouse for six weeks prior to my apartment being available. On move-in day for the townhouse, I got stuck in a traffic jam while driving down from Pittsburgh and was going to miss meeting the utility people, but Bill went above and beyond by being there and handling them for me while I was in traffic. While the townhouse needed some work (apparently the previous tenants skipped out on a lease and left a lot of damages) it was quite adequate for the six weeks I needed it. Hell, I was only charged for one bedroom for one month, so it was a great deal. Moving into my new place in August 2007 was a snap. Got my keys, and even Paul could detect how nervous I was being out on my own and helped point me to various activities and organizations in town to meet new people. I lived in two different apartments with Riner, one near EMU for two years and one in Bridgewater for my final year (before moving to Buena Vista). Anytime something went wrong, it was fixed within 24 hours. Washer quit on me - replaced the next morning. Water heater failed - replaced that evening. Dishwasher broke - replaced within an hour! I can't say any more good things about their property maintenance. As far as the deposit goes, most places don't typically like to give back deposits and I realized this in my years of renting. Their deductions were fair and while I didn't get all of my deposit back, I got most of it. You have to do your part. All in all, Paul and Bill were great to deal with and I highly recommend Riner Rentals for renting apartments.

We had a very disappointing experience with Riner Rental Management Company. We were required to…read morepay an application fee, submit extensive documentation, and wait for approval before moving forward. We contacted the property management on August 18th, and completed the application on the 18th and were told that we had to wait for the person who did application to return on the 20th before we could move forward. After we were approved, we were told that we could not place a deposit until we viewed the property and the earliest virtual tour (because we are relocating from the west coast to the east coast and could not do an in person tour) would be August 27th at 1:15pm pst. We were then required to wait six days for a remote virtual tour. During that time, we communicated with representatives through the website's virtual feature and by text message. We were prepared to secure the property as soon as we received approval, but were specifically told that we had to wait until after the viewing to submit a deposit. At the exact time of our scheduled virtual tour, we received a text stating that the property was no longer available. When we contacted the office, we were told the rental was "first come, first serve" and that the application fee would not be refunded. We were told we could use the application for another property they manage. If this is the way tenants are handled during one of the most important events (moving and relocating across country), why would I want to do business with them, it is not safe, smooth or respectful. We had to make adjustments to work schedules to meet their demands and were treated like our time money and energy were an inconvenience.

Several of the amenities were not available, the property was run down and dirty. After we arrived at the Glade cabin we walked down the property to see what it had to offer. We noticed our cabin did not have a washer and dryer in it as described and didn'tfind the communal area laundry to use. There was no map provided and no signage to guide what areas were private and for public use. We came upon the wood burning sauna and I gasped when i opened the door. It was run down, super rustic and it honestly reminded me of a crematorium. Next to that was the cool dip pool which was not in working order and not listed as that on the rental description. Several reviews seem like the pool hasnt been in use for a few years. We then walked up to the "castle" on a narrow foot bridge and at the top were what seemed to be two drunk men who claimed they lived there. They were blocking the walkway, and to get around them was awkward. They asked us how we found this place and why we were there. Something didn't sit right with that encounter, so we continued walking instead of going inside to see the communal area. We went back to our cabin and never used the rest of the property after that. It did not seem eco friendly either. The property seems to be in a constant state of construction that other things get overlooked and unkempt. The glade cabin was just ok. It was secluded which was a plus. It seemed clean however there was a strong musty smell throughout. No cleaning supplies offered. The cabin had an ant problem inside and a bee problem outside of the entry doors. Both doors were hard to lock from inside. The main door leading to the kitchen had quite a large gap between it and the frame causing an easy way for insects to get in. The keypad was also not working properly and had a constant noise coming from it which was annoying while trying to sleep. The furniture was old and not comfortable. It did have good wifi and was able to stream on the TV. The lightning was very dim inside, and although it had a lot of lights it was still dark. Im not sure how this property keeps getting good reviews, but i did find quite a few similar to mine. On TripAdvisor there is also mention of this being a nudist camp which was not mentioned in any of the rental descriptions. That, and the non working pool and sauna alone would have made me not book in the first place. Again misleading and unsettling. It is close to the national park which is why we originally chose this place. We spent as much time away from it as possible and only returned to sleep. We did not once see any employees or property managers. I would caution anyone to rethink booking here.

There's truly something for everyone, whether you're looking to relax or explore. We loved the dry sauna and the jacuzzi tub in our room, and spent our evenings cooking, sitting by the fire, and playing records. It was the perfect mix of cozy and fun. The property also has a hot tub, a cold plunge, and dry sauna and you can books massages, cooking classes and yoga classes on the property! So many other unique touches throughout -- you can really feel how much thought has gone into creating a serene and welcoming space. You can do as much or as little as you want here, and that flexibility makes it feel like your retreat. Can't recommend it enough. I am already dreaming about our next stay later this year!
