On July 22, I brought my solid gold ring--which I have owned and worn for 45 years--to be appraised. I dealt directly with the manager, Mark. At the time of drop-off, I was told they could not take a picture of my ring. When I returned on September 3 to pick it up, the ring I was given was not mine. It was a "nugget" style ring with six small diamonds, whereas my original ring was a solid band that had never been sized. The ring they handed back to me clearly shows sizing marks on the back, something my original ring never had because it always fit perfectly. I spoke with the owner, Bill Skidmore, who insisted the nugget ring was mine, offering no resolution or accountability. I also noticed that when I picked up the ring, Mark took back my original drop-off slip and replaced it with a new one. I have since taken the "new" ring to the Diamond District, where it was confirmed to be a completely different style from what I originally owned. This ring was intended for my daughter and held 45 years of sentimental value. I am heartbroken and feel completely deceived. Please think twice before leaving your precious items here for "service."

She not only made the special effort to find me a mixed metal chain that could be used as an anklet but, she went out of her way to text me a pic, have me come in to see it, measure it then sized it with great turn around time. And, she has sized a few other pieces for me as well. When I come in she always has a smile, is friendly whether I make a purchase or not and offers to clean other pieces I'm wearing when I stop by to look. Dan looked at ring with lupe and stated he had a better instrument in back room. Dan was gone close to ten minutes,came out and offered $5,000...We had an appraisal from a Massachusetts Jeweler years earlier for $13,000+ so we returned ring to safe deposit box. Recently when selling some jewelery, we had the ring looked at by a fifth ave. jeweler, and he stated that Bigham's was a good offer...which begs the question! what transpired 3yrs ago in that backroom at Bigham. Tried to discuss the matter with Kathy (the owner) but it appears that either she is not getting the message,or she doesn't care. Recent telephone conversation with Dan did not resolve the matter.
