I thought that was odd and called multiple times - it was very hard to get ahold of someone and when I finally did, I was told a manager would be in touch and they never called. I got tired of calling and decided to eat the cost. Today, September 30th, I received ANOTHER email that my unit price had now gone up to $235 per month. I called and was essentially told I could move to a smaller unit but the price wouldn't change. I've had this unit less than 1 year and I'm so disappointed with the lack of customer service and the predatory pricing tactics. ---- October 1, 2025 Update --- Although I still stand by my previous sentiment, I'd like to add an update that Erin is SO HELPFUL!! She helped me find a more affordable unit that might have a price increase in future but hopefully won't be as high as the previous increases. I appreciate her flexibility.

If you add mileage charge, taxes, insurance and miscellaneous stuff. It's about $50. I happened to rent a truck for 4 hours on a Sunday afternoon. I ran out of time to get gas. So, they charged me about $1 more than market rate. They must have a magical calculator on the dashboard. Upon checking in the vehicle, he immediately knew how much gas I used. I made reservation online, took forever though. I was helped by the store manager who checked me in. Man, that saved me a lot of time. However, I was not aware of overtime charge until I almost ran out of time. At the end, it's cheaper not to buy gas than ran overtime to pay for another $30 penalty. Just say I had a fun joy ride in this brand-new cargo van. From this experience, I concluded that I don't need to own a truck and paying monthly insurance while parked there until I need to move stuff. I could just rent a U-Haul van to move stuff once in a blue moon.

We were told they were out of bulbs but that it would be replaced. Months later, when we came back to access our belongings, the light was still out. When we asked again, we were told the unit would have to be completely empty so they could bring a ladder in to replace the bulb. That requirement was never mentioned when we first reported the issue. Because the light was never fixed, accessing our storage unit was extremely difficult and inconvenient the entire time we rented it. Another issue was the constant rate increases. We initially signed up for a promotional rate of $150 per month, which increased to $180 after six months. After speaking with the manager, it was lowered to $160, but six months later it went up again to $170, and then eventually back to $180. Also, be aware that if the unit is not paid by a certain date, the contract allows them to require two months of rent plus late fees, which can add up very quickly. Maybe this is standard practice in the storage industry, but between the unresolved maintenance issue and the frequent rate increases, the experience left a very bad impression. Honestly, after going through this, I would rather throw my belongings away than put them in storage again and end up feeling financially taken advantage of. This was my first experience using a storage company, and based on this experience with Extra Space Storage, I would not do it again.

The first raise, they said they were making updates to units. They added new locks to the doors for added security. From office staff was nice when I did interact with them. Not a bad place to rent from, just not happy about how much the monthly cost increased. Moving my stuff to a storage place closer to my house and cheaper, although I'm sure the new place will raise their fees as well.
