I'm not sure about the frequency of this Moveable Feast but what caught my eye this time was the new OmiNinja (Oh My Ninja) truck which consists of Vietnamese sandwiches (similar to Little Green Cyclo in some ways), noodles, and various side dishes and refreshments. This was during lunch time.. Parking was definitely not an issue. Four quarters totaled up to an hour so I took advantage of this and the fact that I was by myself which only meant the freedom that I can eat, lounge, and leave whenever I wanted w/in that hour. Woo-hoo! My first stop was Mogo's. Yes, I'm not a new customer, in fact the nice girl recognized me and said that I'm one of their best frequent customers! Since I am not eating meat until next week, I ordered a kimchi quesadilla and a tofu burrito. After I paid, next comes the waiting. While I waited for Mogo's to complete my order, I walked over to OmiNinja and ordered their mushrooms and tofu baguette. There are about 2-3 individuals on the ground level to take your order and your name, once completed they hand you that piece of paper so you can transfer that over to the truck staff.. you pay (they accept Visa/MC!!!) and voila.. you wait. I heard my name over at Mogo's so I walked over there to grab my delicious order and then w/in less than 5 minutes, my sandwich was ready. Service from both trucks were incredible... I was about to proceed to my car but was enticed by Treatbot so I looked over their menu and got the Chocolate Dream.. for $3 for 2 scoops on a cone seems like a good ass deal. My transaction time (order, pay, receive) took less than 2 minutes.. I was extremely satisfied w/ my chocolate dream, basically licked the entire thing before reaching my car. The event is rather small.. there was Mogo's, Chairman Bao, OmiNinja, Big Shrimpin, that Louisiana truck, and Treatbot and I must say that the crowds and tables and the overall setup wasn't bad at all although I wish the whole "No Pets Allowed" was enforced. The trash bins and the recycling bins were emptied quite quickly. KUDOS!!! read more

This event definitely lived up to all I had imagined it. A nice little gathering of food trucks, many of which have become big(ger) names in the industry and usually don't serve San Jose and the South Bay on a regular basis, as well as a lively gathering of people, live music, face painting, and more, in a nice, clean, safe, and confined area. We brought the whole family, and everyone had something different to eat. There were a lot of spaces to chow down, including a nice little grassy area that is great for picnics. The people behind this have been working very hard to create a lively food truck scene in the South Bay, and as their flagship weekly event, this is a must check out any time there is a truck that peaks your interest! A+ for organization, A+ for location, A+ for variety, A+ for bringing food trucks down from SF that I otherwise may only follow on Twitter and Yelp, and finally, A+ for being very family friendly. read more

Okay, I admit I'm addicted to Moveable Feast San Pedro Square. One of my friends actually wondered where I was when she didn't see me this past Saturday. The size is perfect for my personal preference. I don't have to deal with any crowds, and I can eat some inexpensive, yummy food. I've pretty much dedicated my Saturday nights/now afternoons to partake in the wonder that is food trucks. I can tell M.F. is trying to please people by adding some shade, chairs, and make-shift tables, but I honestly prefer the open-wide circular formation to the narrow rectangle going on the past few weeks. It's been fun sampling new goodies each week (and devouring favorites like Chairman Bao & An the Go). I don't know how long the weather will hold up for Moveable Feast to cook my lunch each week, but I plan on taking advantage of the opportunity as long as I can. read more

I braved the chaos that was the first SJ Eats. (For those saying the waiting was part of the experience, it was not the wait but the disorganization that got me.) But now that this is a regular thing, it has most certainly improved. I went last Sat, right after 5 pm. There were few lines, none too long and things were moving smoothly! The lineup was great and I definitely appreciate having the trucks more accessible. read more

Since I missed the SJ Eats events I had ho idea the craziness it had brought on...The Moveable Feast Sat afternoon is way quieter. A handful of trucks and at 1ish it's fairly quiet. I still got to discover three new vendors which made it a victory. read more

I'm stoked that you guys have this event every Saturday now! I was there on Saturday 06/17, the FIRST event and everything was delish... The line up was exciting with Chairman Bao, An the Go, Little Green Cyclo who don't make appearance in the South Bay that often. My group was very satisfied leaving the event regardless of the line or the crowdedness... no pain no gain ya'll.. it's summer time ... enjoy it.. Great concept! Great event(s)! This kind of event gives you an opportunity to taste a little bit of everything. So far my favs are Chairman Bao (pork belly with turmeric pickled daikon & green shiso) Mogo BBQ (short rib burrito) and Soulnese (garlic fries with fried tender pork strops). You really can't beat the Price either. Great quality food for a reasonable price. If you haven't been to one of these events, you're missing out! read more

Each one of these iterations in San Jose has gotten better. The first one was a bad joke, a true epic event on good intentions not meeting with reality 3 weeks leading up to the event. The resulting clusterf*&k left a bad taste in many people's mouths. The second event went from 5k people to maybe 1-2k people... and there's orderliness in a ton more (5x as much) space, 4-5x more vendors, tables and chairs, tons of room to spread out and some great music. There are so many types of vendors to choose from I don't think you can go wrong, although I should "experiment" more next time. Great improvement! I still worry that weekly will lessen the brand, but "Off the Grid" has 5-6 places in SF weekly so it'll probably work out. Nice job Ryan. read more

3 1/2 stars depending on the trucks that will be there. This is one of the smaller food truck events, but when they have a really good truck like Chairman Bao's coming and you don't want to drive all the way to SF, it's definitely worth going. Metered parking is 15 min/quarter. I would just get my food to go and eat it elsewhere, not many chairs to sit on anyways. read more

Wow- great way to spend your Saturday evening with your friends eating fresh, good food in a chill atmosphere. Went this evening and the lines were not too long, the food trucks were cranking out delicious looking food! Hiyaaa!, and Chairman Bao Truck , which we tried for the first time, were the true winners of the night. I had the Spicy Pork Sandwich from Hiyaaa! and the flavors were bold, rich, and like it should be. . . hot. The bread on the sandwich was perfectly crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. . . getting hungry just writing about it! The gf had braised pork and pork belly steamed Chairman's Buns - which I got a bite of and it was on point. I am impressed with the quality of food from all of the trucks that arrived- Mogo included. An the Go garlic noodles looked and smelled really good- not as impressed with paying $7.50 for garlic noodles. There was live music, a guy with guitar and his drummer buddy- a good background filler, and a decent amount of seating. For those who have not been before, there are not any chairs or table setups there, just a couple benches, and open seating on cement curbs, but it definitely has a picnic vibe going on- highly recommend bringing some lawn chairs, or even a Lowe's bucket to sit on, and you will be doing just fine. To the organizers of Moveable Feast, San Jose thanks you, and keep it up! Only suggestion is to have more trash cans available- most were overflowing. Treatbot- if you are reading this. . . please bring the 408 everytime, and in big quantities. read more

Great assortment of food and trucks! Come early to avoid long lines and to find close parking. I got to the downtown MVBL event right when it started and found parking less than a block away and there were people already ordering. The light rail is also close by and is a great green alternative to driving and parking when traveling to this event. The truck lineup is also posted on the MVLB truck Facebook page. I read it over every week to help me decide which trucks to order from. Usually they have 5 truck but every once in a while there will be a 6th one that shows up. A must visit if you have never been to this MVBL event... Nom nom! read more

I went for the first time tonight! Food trucks in a parking lot?? Didn't sound like an exciting Friday night... It wasn't at a park with tables or anything, the solution was tailgating!! I had no idea what a social, family friendly fun time this would be. My bf and I got a lobster roll and clam chowder from Sam's chowdermobile, it was soooo good! I got the shortie (and am not normally a seafood fan), the lobster was fresh and tender on a butter grilled roll. Such a great idea, we will be going back. I love SJ, support your local vendors! read more

What's not to like? Nice location, good trucks, less wait lines. Win win win . Its stroller friendly too, which is nice now that the wifey and I are bringing our baby out a bit. My only concern is that the number of trucks slowly seems to be decreasing. Maybe there's more important things going on like stanford games, but the trucks that show up are still pretty good. The only other comments I have were it sure would be nice to have some better seating. While it's awesome to bring a blanket and have a picnic in the shade at the house, during peak times everything is packed. Still though, nice to walk around and eat some good food. read more

Fun environment-definitely different than a sit down place. Very casual and laid back atmosphere with a lot of variety for a smaller space. There was a guy singing and rockin out on the guitar while we ate our tofu tacos and spam musubis, which was fun. Good place to meet up with friends and just make it a hang out hot spot with food, drinks and music. Good thing is they have additional seating adjacent to the food trucks on the other side of the gate. It was much less sunny and less crowded. Wait time for food was not long at all and food came out fairly quick. "An the Go" had awesome garlic noodles that were buttery and tasty. Prices were not super cheap ($5 tacos? Hmm, questionable) but I suppose it's more for the ambience as well. read more

So happy to see this happen so well after the SJ Eats DISASTER! Checked this out on Sat nite 7/10/11. Wholly agree with Renro....very cool way to spend a chill Saturday evening eating good grub and hanging with friends. So a few things to pass along as to enjoying the event to the fullest! Think picnic! Park in the parking lot next door to lot with trucks. OR stake out a nice area in the yard at the Fallon House next door to the lot....the garden was a sweet little area to chow down. Next time we are going to bring our camping chairs and if we can swing it a table. Even a small cooler with beers or wine? bring some plates or a good knife for cutting if you plan on sharing foods with all your different party members. Ordering food: Either spread out and check out food and then send one person to each truck to all try and order at the same time OR go to each truck order and then swing back around to each place and pick up orders that are done. We had a really hard time NOT eating while standing in line at each truck waiting for our food! And go back later to get desserts! Of course you don't have to do any of this to enjoy the food. Order and chow while you wait for food from the next truck works too! Afterward we headed to a couple bars in San Pedro Square to have a couple "real" drinks. Hadn't been to that area in a while so it was kind of fun to check it out and looking forward to seeing the "Public Market" that may open up hopefully some time soon! I really like the approach Moveable Feast has, and they're doing a few things really really right. 1, They pick excellent locations for their events. Their first one was a bit of a fiasco in underestimating the size of the event. However, they have it down to a science now. 2, They provide seating for their space. It's so simple! Red plastic buckets that are in stacks with the Moveable Feast logo on them. You just create your own seating areas, and people use them very efficiently? When you're done, someone else will take them, or just stack them back up. 3, During the cooler months, they bring out the heat lamps. This is a great way to set up flow in the space, so people can can huddle around the fires. I think it's a great touch. 4, They mix up their trucks. They have a couple of staples (I'd say about 10), but they're rotated through, and there's usually something new there as well, so you can try something different every time. I like the mix of familiar and different, because isn't that the point? I've been to the Garden City location which is smaller, and the Blossom Hill on Friday evenings location, and I have very few complaints. I'll be back for sure, especially when Eat on Monday and The Chairman are both there. read more

I enjoy this local event and have attended a handful of times. It's in a great location where there's plenty of street parking and for the most part, has a lot of unique food trucks to choose from. They try their best to put out chairs and tents to make it comfortable to sit down and eat. I have never waited in lines for more than 15 minutes. I just think we're pretty lucky to have a moveable feast in San Jose! read more

im not much of a big truck eater but my boyfriend wanted to come here for some porkbelly sandwich .. which im not going to lie its bomb. but for 3.75 each the size of my palm (mind you i have small hands) it wont be a weekend thing haha. i gotta get full. but if you haven't been, its fun. they have little tubs for you to sit on and boards to use as a table and just hang out. theres music playing on every truck that i can recall read more

There were nine trucks. After Wg and the Taco fest I was underwhelmed. Passed on No way Jose, wish I passed on Peruvian, passed on Chairman Bao and Treatbot. loved the Korean Japanese truck with their BBQ short rib on a "rice" bun with romaine slider delicious at 6.50. The fries covered with BBQ beef, romaine, sauce looked good too. This was the winner of the night. I tried the shrimp taco at Big Shrimpz, way too hot for me. Another very bad choice was the chicken curry at the taco/burrito truck. Glad I went to check it out. Not my favorite venue. May go again, close and convenient. Not crowded. read more

i give 5 stars for being the WORST IDEA EVER, i would love my money back that i spent on this FALSE ADVERTISING of SAN JOSE BACON FESTIVAL. you advertised all dishes under 5 bucks, FALSE, the first dish i got cost me 7bucks, then the lines were so long it took an hr to get your order taken, then 30 min to receive it, then there was no place to sit and it, oh and to top that off, it was newly tar parking lot, so it was still wet like, sticking and melting your shoes, they give you a bucket all dirty and what not to sit on, well that collapsed in to the fresh hot tar parking lot, so like the BACON, well that was just thrown onto the food and was horrible, so what ever happend to parade, constests, ect...YOU RIPPED US OFF. i say CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT for all who bought tickets and suffered this disaster. i ate at the flea market and got better food with faster lines. read more

Moveable Feast advertised they would be in Willow Glen and to our surprise it was Willow Glen Plaza or something of that sort. Upon arrival, there were lots of parking. We didn't know what to expect considering it was our first time attending this event and to my surprise we enjoyed ourselves very much. I went with my siblings and friends, our age ranges were wide to prove Moveable Feast is fit for any person at any age. We were overwhelmed by the amount of food trucks were there as well as intimidated by the long lines at each truck. Nonetheless, we were able to try a few different trucks and were amazed by the tastes of the many foods. I found it great that our seats were buckets, convenient yet recyclable . The lighting was pretty dark even though they had christmas lights and a few strikingly large bright lights, but it was still difficult to see exactly what we were eating. The prices of the food are up there and would like a cheaper cost but the food's were delectable and the experience overall was one that has us returning. read more
