I've been a regular customer at El Halal Amigos for quite some time and have tried many different items on the menu. Today, I decided to order the Chicken Fajitas, and it completely exceeded my expectations. Without a doubt, it was the most delicious fajitas dish I have ever had. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, the vegetables were cooked just right, and all the flavors came together beautifully. Everything was cooked to perfection. The portion size was very generous, and the sides were fantastic. The guacamole, sour cream, Spanish rice, and black beans were all fresh, flavorful, and complemented the meal perfectly. This was my very first visit to El Halal Mexican Restaurant in the heart of downtown Willow Glen, and I've been wanting to stop by for a while. I finally decided to give it a try after hearing about the restaurant from food reviewer Dave fiore text. As someone who absolutely loves tacos and is always on the hunt for great local taco spots, I was excited to see how this place compared to some of my favorites. I ordered four different tacos, and overall, they were pretty good. They weren't bad by any means, but they also didn't quite blow me away. The meat was cooked well, the tortillas were fresh, and the tacos had good flavor. The salsa was decent too, although I personally prefer something with a little more kick. Everyone has different tastes, so this is just my opinion. One thing I really appreciated was how clean and organized the restaurant was. You can tell they take pride in keeping the dining area nice and welcoming. The staff was friendly, and my food came out quickly. It's always a good sign when a restaurant pays attention to both cleanliness and customer service. I've eaten at a lot of taco places throughout the Bay Area, so I naturally compare every new place to some of my favorites. While El Halal Mexican Restaurant didn't make the top of my list, I still had a good experience and I'm glad I finally gave it a shot. Not every restaurant has to be your favorite to be worth visiting. I also like supporting family-owned businesses because I know how much hard work goes into running a local restaurant. They deserve credit for creating a clean, welcoming place and serving quality food. Will I come back? Maybe. If I do, I'd probably try something different on the menu instead of the tacos. Sometimes a restaurant's best dish isn't the first thing you order, and I'd be interested in seeing what else they have to offer. Overall, I'd give El Halal Mexican Restaurant a solid 4 out of 5 stars. This is a nice taco spot in the Willow Glen area. The inside is very cute and they show off their support from Guy Fieri. I like that there is a halal Mexican restaurant here! The food was good. They have a sweet potato and kale option for those that don't eat meat. This is a great alternative compared to places that just do regular potatoes. I liked their agua frescas because they're not super sweet. It is on the pricier side for tacos but I think more places are pricing it like that nowadays. Got to try this place at a Yelp tasting event in 2025 and the brisket taco was DELICOUS. Been meaning to come try the restaurant, but I couldn't justify spending $5+ on one taco. However, I recently learned they do taco tuesday deals! The deal is only for the al pastor chicken tacos and it was actually good! I did not have high expectations because I don't like chicken tacos, but El Halal Amigos know what they're doing. My boyfriend also tried the brisket taco and he said it was worth the $5. The only thing I didn't like were the salsas-- I thought it was okay. Salsas were on the watery side and it didn't have much flavor. Service was nice & timely. Parking can be challenging if you try to find close by on the street (we were lucky and we got it right outside) though there happens to be a big parking lot pretty close that can address this easy. Absolutely finger-licking good food paired with some of the warmest hospitality you'll find. The hosts were welcoming, and genuinely friendly, making us feel right at home. We had a lot of questions and they were incredibly patient and happy to walk us through everything, which made the experience even better. I like it here but I'm not sure we ordered the right items. I got a sweet potato taco to try and that was good but the orange sauce was so incredibly spicy it was inedible, and I'm ok with a bit of spice. My husband was really excited about the birria special and the chile relleno burrito but both fell flat. We would not order the birria special again- little flavor, and we probably would order the chile relleno burrito again but we brought half of it home and squeezed lime juice on it for a little kick. Next time we'd do that and add our own (edible) salsa. The kids liked their quesadilla plate and that there were chips for the table. The staff here was pretty nice minus one lady who was expo-ing food- wow will she give you a mean look if you go and ask for a refill of chips phew! They were playing games on the tv and there was some shared seating so that was communal and fun. we might come back but we're not urgently awaiting the next time we can visit. read more

Unfortunately, the last three times we've ordered, we've found long hairs in our meals..once in a burrito, another time in a different burrito, and most recently in our nachos. We kept giving it another chance because we truly wanted to continue supporting this restaurant, but after agreeing that a third occurrence would be our limit, we've sadly decided we won't be returning. We hope this feedback is taken constructively. Please consider requiring hair ties and hair nets for anyone preparing food to help prevent this from happening in the future. Came here on a Sunday for some birria tacos. I've been here before and know the food is good. I never realized they only served birria on Sundays but my expectations were higher because of this. We visited on Saturday for the Cinco de Mayo $2 taco special. Our order included chicken al pastor, brisket, carne asada, and horchata. Overall, the flavors were excellent, with the brisket being a particular standout. While the chicken al pastor was somewhat salty and the carne asada was a bit under-seasoned, the horchata was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet or powdery. We also enjoyed the Jamaica drink, which we believe is hibiscus, as it was refreshing and not excessively sweet. We have been coming here since the Lincoln Avenue restaurant opened. The food is consistently amazing. We come most often on Sunday for the Barbacoa Taco Special. You can taste the time they take to marinate and slow cook the beef. The consume' that comes with is a slow cooked beef broth (15 hours) that I dip in and drink straight. The Barbacoa ribs are another gastronomical delight served with a choice of beans and a roasted green pepper. We have also had the crispy Barbacoa tacos as well as the soft. But the slow cooked barbacoa costilla and brisket barbacoa (burrito bowl) were bland. Better with the sauce but to be honest the sauce was not very tasty either, just provided a little spice. The tacos are amazing! Best in Willow Glen. I ordered a crispy asada, soft asada, and mahi mahi taco and they were scrumptious. My favorite was the soft asada. I love the way they season the meat, and I love the generous amount of onions on the tacos. The sauce on the mahi mahi was too spicy for me, but the taco tasted good after I removed it. Next time I'll order it plain. I also ordered a side of chips and pico. The pico was SO good. Again, lots of onions. Unfortunately, the container was tiny and there was only enough for a few chips. I've loved El Halal Amigos since the first time I dined at their brick and mortar restaurant. Originally, I thought their food during their food truck days was just okay. But they seriously have improved tremendously! Everything is deliciois; from freshly made quesabirria sundays (I watched it being made outside), to their famous loaded narchos, and so much more. And the chile relleno burrito is something I've never had but I'd highly recommend it! It was so flavorful, meaty, melty, and filling. The Nar-chos are a must-get every time, and I love their taco plate as well. Never had a dish here I didn't enjoy! The only thing I think could improve would be their agua frescas. While the prices are on the higher end for Mexican food, the portions are huge! Service is attentive and extremely friendly even when busy. My friend and I split the nachos with Carne Asada and then I got a burrito bowl with Carne Asada. We visited here after a paint session at petroglyph, which is right down the street. It was the closest Mexican restaurant, though you do have quite a few options in this area. They have good tacos, but they aretiny for the price at five dollars each. The meat was well cooked, though it was a little bit oily. After trying homemade corn tortillas, everything else pails in comparison, so I wasn't super impressed with the tortillas used here. However, the service was absolutely phenomenal. Everyone was smiling, and they even brought us chips while we waited for our food. You order at the counter and sit at a table to eat, and there is ample seating space outside that allows for more intimate conversation because there is no music blasting. I got a super burrito with Brisket Barbacoa, wife had Carne Asada tacos and my son had Pollo Al Pastor quesadilla. We thought the chicken was too salty and tacos were mediocre. But my burrito was good, good ratio of fillings and decent amount of beef. I sorta wish the tortilla was grilled more. The prices seem higher now (I guess it's understandable) but the size for the side of guacamole was offensive lol. $3 for a big table spoon of guac (same condiment container as salsa). When Guy announced "restaurant chef/owner from San Jose" on Triple G (Guy's Grocery Game), it was an immediate yelp search and bookmark. It was exciting to hear! So major props to El Halal Amigos! This is just based off what was ordered. Service was good and I like the concept. Spicy Queso & Chips - chips and cheese is simple and enjoyable but was not expecting plain nacho cheese with pretty much a small amount pico de gallo in the center. This could use a little more love. Added some of the salsa from their chips and salsa into the cheese and it was actually pretty good. It cut some of the sharp canned cheese flavor with a tiny kick. Pollo Pastor Tacos- this had potential and chicken is a good replacement for the traditional al pastor. It could use more seasoning and imo, I think it would be really good if it had some sort of grill/char taste/texture to it. Carne Asada Tacos - okay these were amazing.
