I haven't written a Yelp review in a long time, but this place absolutely deserves one. I'm visiting from California, staying with my boyfriend here in Athens, Alabama, and I was seriously craving pizza. He suggested Marco's, but I wanted to try something new and closer, so I compared reviews between Marco's and Mozza--and Mozza definitely came out on top. We ordered a large half Supreme/half Meat Lover and a side of Garlic Knots. Wow. The pizza was incredibly flavorful, and the Garlic Knots were perfectly soft and delicious. A little suggestion, they should cut the slices smaller though. Even my boyfriend, who usually sticks to Marco's, admitted that Mozza is way better--and he's officially switching over. I've been to the Jordan Lane location before. I went for lunch here to get some to go pizza slices. Grabbed cheese, margherita, and buffalo chicken. Pizza was reheated and served in one of their boxes. They were helpful in letting me know what was behind the glass case for their pizza of the day. I know thin pizza wouldn't exactly be as crispy as I wanted so I can't complain too much, but it was kind of falling apart when I was eating it. It was also dripping in oil. I only had two slices and I was already full. One thing I would caution staff is if someone asks for a "vegetarian pizza" that there shouldn't be any meat on there. If you look at the margherita slice, there's a piece of chicken on it. Even though, my experience here was decent, I'll probably still give it another try at a different location since I enjoy thin crust pizza. read more

Dear Hubs got a takeout pizza and side of wings and French Fries earlier this week primarily for himself. The pizza was pepperoni with sardines. The pizza looked great! I'm just not a fan of sardines, and I could not bring myself to deal with the little fishes on the pizza. He reported the pizza was "okay" and "not much better than a frozen pizza," adding that "he would not order from Mozza again." The next day I ate about five (all flats with one drumstick) of the leftover wings after reheating/crisping them in the air fryer. Of these leftover wings, the drum was good; however, I have always preferred drums. The wings were bland and maybe that's the hub's fault for how he ordered them? There were two carrots, two celery slices, and what looked like hot sauce in the Styrofoam container. I ate the carrot slices with our homemade bleu cheese dressing, which I also added to the reheated wings and managed to finish the wings. March 1, 2025 - our first visit. We loved this place!! We started with the fried cheese ravioli, which was delicious. The sauce was different than what we usually get at Italian restaurants, and I like it better! I had the eggplant parm, and my daughter had two slices of pizza (one cheese, one buffalo chicken) and the portions were huge and just perfect. We split a cannoli for dessert and it was also yummy. Unlike my wife, I was not a big pizza fan until I tasted real New York pizza in NYC's Little Italy district earlier this year. I decided to try Mozza Pizza after reading many social media postings raving about Mozza Pizza in Athens and Huntsville claiming their pizza tasted as close to real NY pizza as anyplace in the Huntsville metro area. My wife and I tried the Mozza's Athens location today and it was GREAT and it did indeed remind us of genuine NY pizza. The service, led by Max, was great, and we had slices of the meat lovers pizza and the cheese pizza, fried beef ravioli, and complimentary cups of minestrone soup as we watched the 2nd half of the Alabama v. Wisconsin football game. We definitely will be back! read more

Oh my goodness another great meal ! First time at Athens location and it was amazing. Had the baked ziti and a huge salad that I split with my husband. Would order again and again. Little spot in town in a storefront. Nothing fancy. The outside is well lit but you won't know what you are missing until you walk in. Two words. Pizza buffet. So my kids and husband and I came here on a whim. We were staying overnight in town and had been driving all day and frankly we were starving. So we found this place off Yelp and it looked pretty good. It's a bit hard to find but that's what google maps are for. As we walked in the server greeted us and asked what we were looking for and we told him the buffet. He apologized that there was nothing fresh and asked us what kind of pizzas we wanted. Then went to the back to have the cooks make those and a few others to restock the buffet. Then a large group of about 20 people also came in. So with all of us there do you think that they ever ran out of food ? Nope. They kept cranking out the delicious zaa. It was fabulous. And they also had a really good looking and tasking salad bar too !! Enjoyed thin, New York-style crispy crust (evidence of a LONG PROOF), light sauce, quality-melty cheese with tasty toppings, we've finally found the pie we've been searching for since 2020. Today, we were lucky to have met the owner/developer of this unassuming establishment, who's usually at their newer location in Huntsville (which place is creating an internet sensation-like following), so we could sing him our praises. Order was placed over 90 mins in advance for a pick-up. Had to wait another 30 mins for the order. I noticed the 82 health rating, and immediately questioned my choice to try this place. Ive been here for over 10 yrs, and the building and it's frontage have always looked unappealing. Sometimes, however, you can find hidden gems! THIS was not a hidden gem. Mozza Pizza earned that 82 rating. Crusts were burnt-bottoms were blackened burnt. Someone was on their phone not paying attention to the baking time. There is no excuse for burning pizza. The crust wasn't NY style, unless hard and burnt is now the NY standard. Toppings were cold. You can tell the pizza was pre-made with a minimal sauce and cheese base, then the toppings were thrown on, heated for less than 5 mins, just long enough to burn the crust and lukewarm the toppings. How hard is it to use FRESH sliced mushrooms, or spinach? Must be excruciatingly difficult here because mushrooms were canned, spinach was thawed frozen. Roasted peppers were canned as well. Very little meat on meat lovers pizza. A few scant ham toppings on the hawaiian pizza. plenty of canned pineapple though! Idk what they thought those little bits of pizza dough flash fried hard and smothered in confectionery sugar were suppose to be. Rough chewy nuggets were not on the menu, but they have them! Now I know why I never tried them. Parking is bad, food is unremarkable. read more

Walked in was a little slow. Looked at the buffet and almost walked out. So glad we didn't. We got the menu and ordered the Vegi Calzone. The calzone was delicious. However, a giant roach crawled out just as we were finishing out meal, and I don't mean ran across the floor, that thing lingered for a good five minutes. Causally strolling like it was a pet. This is the best pizza in Athens Alabama hands down. When compared to other businesses close by and the regular pizza chains Mozza outshines them all. A cozy setting just off the square of town, prices are incredible $7 bucks for a specialty pizza. I recommend the baked potato pizza for lovers of potatoes, the bbq chicken for bbq fans, and the buffalo chicken since that seems to be the towns go to pizza. Guy that runs the place is super nice, always polite, always says thank you. I give them 5* because like I stated earlier best around this town. Village pizza in athens is too expensive, however the one in east limestone is the only close competitor in this race. other pizza places in the area are chains and it's the same product, etc, etc, etc. bottom line They got No Heart! Mozza has tons of heart and they are going to deliver 9/10. The only thing I would do differently if I ran the place is I would sell pizza by the slice nobody around here does that. If they sell a Boston sized slice and some garlic knots and a drink for $10-$12 dollars I think they could put some of these other places out to pasture.
