Marcos and his crew did an EXCELLENT job repairing our basement after we had water damage to the floor/walls. They installed new insulation, repaired the drywall, painted the entire basement, and installed a tile floor. They also repaired a leaky shower in the basement bathroom. Marcos is the nicest, most accommodating (he came by at 6pm for the initial estimate to accommodate my work schedule) and most honest contractor I've ever dealt with and he and his crew worked very hard and very fast. They showed up on time every day and worked long hours. My basement looks better now than it did before it was flooded! Do not hire this company! Marcos Pena is not a professional remodeler; he's a fraud and a crook. The quality of work was incredibly poor and he ruined parts of our home. We hired Marcos based on his exceptional reviews on Angie's List, but as others have said on Google, he didn't finish the job, gave a sob story for payment, and despite efforts to contact him, has not taken ownership or accountability for the terrible work he did. We found MP Home Repair on Angi's list and hired him because of great reviews. He was very friendly and personable, but they do sloppy work and don't take accountability for doing a bad job. 1. MP Home repair put in our Kerdi system in our shower and did the tile work on top of the Keri system. Its been 2 years and our shower is now leaking into the room below. We have contacted plumbers and they've identified the issue not as a plumbing issue, but in the way the system was installed. We then reached out to Marcos & MP Home Repair to fix the issue and they took no accountability for installing the system incorrectly. Their excuse was "the time frame was beyond their warranty". If you installed things correctly, they wouldn't need this arbitrary "rule". 2. We hired them to tile our bathroom, and they got the floor pattern wrong despite it being sheets of tile. They didn't trim the tile where the tile hits the wall, but just removed tiles making empty spots full of grout. To sum it up - don't trust this company with your home improvement needs. The work will be done poorly and they will take no accountability for their mistakes. You are better off doing it yourself or finding a different contractor because you will be needing one to fix what they did. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THS GUY! He seemed nice and reasonable when we first met and before we paid him. After settle with the details of the project, we paid him 1/3 of the cost as deposit to start the job. It was all good at the beginning, then after a week of so he started to not showing up and not answering calls. After several days, he showed up and said that he needed $3000 to pay the plumber and the electrician, if we don't pay he couldn't continue. So we did. He cashed the check right away and the next day he called and said that the plumber quit and he couldn't find a plumber. And asked me to find one myself. After that, I haven't been able to get hold of him for the past 5 days. All calls went straight to his voice mail and text messages left unanswered. At this point, the job is less than 1/3 done, and he got half of the money. There are material he said he bought, but I never saw. And there are materials that are different than what he said he would get. I don't know how this is going to end. At this point, this has been the worst experience ever and the most unreliable person I've ever met. read more

Left the closet with no tile on the floor at all, didnt finish painting, super sloppy finshes on the trim, I could have done a better job myself. Same with the paint. We had to make new shelves ourselves, because what they installed was so bad. Sloppy, unprofessional and unfinished. The crew rushed the job at the end and Marcos gave us a sob story, so we paid before the work was done. Huge mistake. Beyond the visably poor finishes, the tiles are uneven on both the floor and entire shower. Overall it looks like more of a DIY job that turned out ok, rather than a professional remodel. read more

I bought a new home in Lorton that needed a lot of work. I interviewed three contractors and after reviewing their quotes and service record on Angie's, I selected MP Home Repair to perform the work. MP Home Repair, removed all old hardwood floors and installed new floors throughout the house, Installed all new appliances. Converted the powder room to a full bath, completely renovated the master bathroom, moved a bedroom wall to make the bedroom bigger, reconfigured the laundry room and installed new stackable washer and dryer, added several doors including the fireproof door to the garage, and built two new closets. I bought all the materials so the price below reflects labor costs only. Marcos Pena and his entire team are extremely responsive and have a good sense of design. Marcos spent three days with his team discussing the design and reconfiguration of the laundry area in order to extend the powder room to accommodate the shower. He brought in an electrician, and a plumber to make sure all work was done properly. Nancy, their assistant, was always available to ferry messages back and forth to Marcos and to schedule work around my schedule. His team did an amazing job. Take a look at the pictures. MP Home Repair added a concrete step to our front porch and then covered the front porch, step and sidewalk with Flag stone. It looks beautiful! Our entry way is so pretty, now! Overall our biggest problem was sloppy craftsmanship. I have detailed the 3 major problems below (there were additional smaller problems, but for the sake of this review I will focus on the 3 big ones). 1) We had a brand new tile floor and shower surround installed. The floor is not exactly level, making it difficult to proceed with installing a vanity or toilet. Many of the floor tiles stick up higher then the rest (also know as tile lippage), creating a sharp edge (or point in some cases) to step on. This is very uncomfortable, especially in bare feet. Three different contractors have looked at the floor and all agree that in order to fix it properly, it will need to be completely removed. This may include having to re-do the durock subfloor, which could get damaged when the tiles are removed. 2) We requested paint-ready drywall work and did not receive this level of work. There are bumps on a brand new wall that need considerable sanding before they can be painted. There are also places mesh tape was used and the texture is coming through the mud, which means it will come through the paint and be visible. 3) One drywall corner was not taped and skimmed so there is bare drywall with a gap in the corner where the two sheets meet. Same with one side of our window sill (a gap where the drywall meets the window sill). Since the original work was completed, we have had to request that someone come back to fix things twice. One was related to tile in the shower and one to finishing a drywall patch. Yet there are still things that were not completed or the work is sub-standard. Each time the workers came back (and while they were here originally) I had to clean up after them, and the mess was not confined to just the bathroom area (i.e. drywall chunks were vacuumed up down the hall, wet drywall dust was scrubbed off the hardwood floor in the room across from the bathroom, etc.). The last time they were here they didn't even bother to put down drop cloths until I started putting down drop cloths myself. Also, when the new tile was installed in the bathroom, the door needed to be trimmed at the bottom so it would open/close. This is pretty normal. What isn't normal is that they cut the door with a circular saw in the hallway, which made a HUGE mess (and set off our smoke alarm). The owner has offered to have someone come out again to try and fix the issues. Because of the poor craftsmanship we've seen to date, we are not confident the work will be completed to an acceptable level and do not wish to waste more of our time, money, and materials. read more
