You can't beat going to a place where you can buy products for a good price. Let's see how the shopping went. We were good with finding products for food to cook. For Sophia's egg rolls, we purchased bean sprouts and spring roll wraps along with ramen noodles and seaweed. I also bought t-bone steaks for a good price for air frying. The best thing about E Mart is they have a lot of stuff you wouldn't find in regular grocery stores. Hopefully, I can find some things to try for meals. You'll never know what you can discover here. Well, there you have it. Great service from staff, a whole lot of items to pick for yourself (and others too) and an environment where it's comfortable and not giving you a rush vibe. We'll continue to be life-long customers :)

So we did a search for other Asian food markets and happened to find this one which is tucked away off Warwick Blvd. Would we find any available items to use for cooking on our day off? We were the only customers inside. It's smaller than E-Mart but if you're looking for items to use for Asian foods, you definitely found the right place. Asian music was playing throughout the market and the vibe was so quiet. It's cool when you're only one of two customers with no foot traffic in sight. And we were able to find bean sprouts which were fresh. And to my surprise, they even had Cafe Du Monde coffee up front. Being from Louisiana, one tradition was to head to a Cafe Du Monde spot and chow down on beignets and frozen cafe au lait and sometimes I had hot coffee. I didn't buy any, but it warmed my heart to see it here in Virginia. I know stores carry it nationwide, but maybe I was a bit naive.....ha!! Anyway, we were able to go in and out of the store with our bean sprouts just like that. When in doubt, look for some backup stores. And that's what we did. A small market, but one where you'll find whatever you're looking for. Till next time :)

Of course I had to check every aisle for other Mexican cooking necessities like chiles, harina (maseca) for tortillas, arepas, pan, corn husks for tamales, chips, cookies, Goya products, hot sauce, abuelita chocolate, they have a freezer with pupusas, empanadas, guayabas, and another fridge with desserts like tres leches cake and flan. We couldn't wait to stop in to check out the market's offerings and to try the Halo Halo. 37 North is in a great location on Ironbound Road. The market is clean and has a lot to offer, from canned goods, baked goods, and more. They offer hot food and tasty treats. The young lady who took our Halo Halo order was very friendly. And the tasty Halo Halo packed with colorful ingredients, topped with Ube ice cream and leche flan hit the spot on a warm summer afternoon. 37 North had several customers stop in while we sat and enjoyed our Halo Halo. E-Mart was relocated virtually overnight and without warning to Virginia Beach from Newport News. World Market in Newport News is the new E-Mart and has only furniture, not the Asian food I was looking for. Instead, I went next door to Fresh Market and bought two bags of red, white and blue potato chips. The woman of color behind the counter knew I understood what they had done. My mom swears by the oxtails here, but I've switched over to the stewed beef--you get more meat, and I'm not a fan of those little circle pieces with too much fat on the oxtails. The stewed beef gives you a better bang for your buck, and it's packed with flavor. The beef patties (mild for me!) are another go-to--just the right amount of spice without being overwhelming. I also used to love the oxtail soup, but lately they've only been adding a few small fatty pieces. For the price, two or three bites of oxtail just isn't enough, even though the dumplings, potatoes, and red beans in the soup are delicious. If they fix that, I'll definitely go back to ordering it.
