Will never come back here! Made a reservation two months in advance for 6:30pm on a Saturday. We show up at our reservation time, awaiting are the very rude hostess who tell us that they will seat us as soon as possible. We ask how long it'll be and she said I'm not sure so we then asked for a ballpark time and she said an hour. Not sure why anyone would need to wait an hour when you have a reservation. What's the point??? Once we complained and reminded her, again, that we have a reservation. She said they could maybe get us in in 20 minutes. 10 minutes later, I then found the manager who assured us that he could seat us within the next 15 minutes, which did happen. At this point it was almost 7pm. Once we got to our hibachi table, it took another 45 minutes for us to even get a chef. The food was good, but not worth the expierence I had. Unacceptable treatment. Do NOT come here unless you want subpar food and a three hour long experience. read more

I can't believe I've never written a review for Mr. An's. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Tucson. I always sit in the bar area and avoid the expensive teppan tables. I love their sushi! My go to is the sunset roll but tonight I had the spicy Alaskan which was delicious. It's less heavy and filling than the sunset roll. I've also had the Guadalajara, bacon of the sea, California roll Troy, and Las Vegas roll. I haven't found one I didn't like. The happy hour is great. Service can be a little slow but the food comes out right after ordering. The chicken lettuce wraps are the best I've ever had. Their wings, egg rolls, and edamame are also delicious. read more

Great place to gather with family and friends. No issue with service. However, food is mediocre. The Calamari is mainly soggy and not crispy. Flavor is lacking and the sauce does not compliment it well. Wings are fatty and do not have good coating. However, the Emperor's Cut (Teppanyaki) is not bad. The Filet Mignon is properly grilled, juicy and soft. Fried rice and noodle compliment it well as they have milder flavors and salts. The food is always great there. I've had teppanyaki as well as their sushi. Fish tasted fresh! Service could improve, went there for my birthday and the server was super late just greeting us. Didnt order half of the sushi order. By the time teppanyaki was over my kids sushi rolls had yet to come. The server then had troubles remembering the sushi order. Thank goodness I have well behaved kids but even that was starting to get them restless. My kids ate over an hour after we arrived. After all the teppanyaki food was eaten. The was not accountability just excuses. Ambiance is a little loud for my taste. Next time I'll just order out like I usually do. read more

I'm the mood for something a bit different. Stopped by here for some teppanyaki. I had the surf and turf with fried rice. Steak and lobster. Lobster was delicious and the steak was tender. Very tasty. My companion had the chicken with white rice. Tender well cooked and flavorful. All meals come with soup and salad. Others at the table ordered scallops and shrimp. All looked very appetizing and there were only smiles at the table. This place is fun. Depending on your chef it's more or less so, but still always fun. They have a wide wine, sake and cocktail list. Lots of sushi selections as well. Want to have a little dining fun or just a change of pace. This is your place. read more

I'm giving Mr. An's 2-stars at best. Although the food is okay in general, I did not appreciate being squeezed in with a lot of crowd, which overall soured the whole experience. We were seated at the table and no one even bothered checking the number of chairs before bringing us there. I had to sit by the window sill thinking someone will bring me a chair, but unfortunately not. We had to explicitly bring it to their attention to notice that I was not seated on a chair. Not a great experience. We had a big party and all had to be there to be seated. We were on time. They were 20 minutes late seating us. It seems like everyone is there for a birthday party. It's very loud. My 1st impression walking in was it reminded me of Chucky Cheese. Very loud and lots of kids. The food was good but not worth the noise. Our appetizers never came and our teppanyaki chef had and served some food before she came back to check on us. When we asked about the missing food she argued it was already dropped off. She finally brought us them after our dinner was well over half way done. She dropped the checks immediately after our chef was finished. We were celebrating my daughters birthday. Ice cream was dropped off before we were finished eating. She's 7 so forget her interested in her dinner with ice cream in front of her. Never felt more rushed. We had an excellent birthday experience on 4/25/24 and was greeted with great hospitality and service. To add the food was delicious and also served with noodles in addition to the rice which is uncommon for hibachi style. We had high expectations for this restaurant. Teppanyaki is a favorite of our family, and we tend to frequent them often. We decided to dine here for my son's 21st birthday after hearing how amazing it is, and we were looking forward to the food. Unfortunately, we started shaky without seeing a server for a while. Once we placed our drinks, we waited again. Our sushi was spot on! We had the spicy Alaskan and the sauce was great. I would go there for just that roll. We finished our sushi as well as 3 of the 5 of us had empty drink glasses... waited. We haven't seen our server since he dropped off our drinks 20 minutes ago. Finally came back ordered our food and another round of drinks. Another 15 minutes before the drinks arrived.. soup came, salad came and then Jose our chef. Loved him!! If not for him it would have been a truly bad experience and the only reason, I'm giving an ok. We didn't see our server unless we stopped him to please clear dishes. We couldn't even see the grill due to the dishes. Honestly some of the worst service I've ever experienced, especially at a teppanyaki. First things first, service is A+ here. We went to Mr An's for my wife's birthday. We were seated at the teppan table along with two other couples. Drink orders were taken quickly and we also got an order of egg rolls and California rolls. After drinks and appetizers were served, food order was given by everybody . My wife and daughter got the chicken teriyaki( flight of fancy) and I got the shrimp ( swimming with delight) . Soup was served first, which was a basic beef broth with mushrooms and chives. Basic but very delicious. As we were having our soup, the chef came out to the table and started to put on quite a show while cooking up the food. While the food was cooking our salads were served which comes with a Japanese dressing which is very Thick and tangy. The fried rice was served onto the plates, along with noodles and the meats as they were finish cooking. Then the vegetables ( Broccoli, carrots, zucchini) were served onto the plates The shrimp was plump and nicely seasoned. The chicken itself was very good as well, both the rice and vegetables delicious. He felt full at the end, but healthy for all like you got done, eating pizza or burgers. They brought out a small bowl of ice cream for my wife and even took a group picture of us to take home. For all of that food, a beer and two drinks for $144 before tip. Obviously, not a cheap dinner and not something to do all the time, but for the amount of food and great service and entertainment, well worth it. read more

We had such a great experience at Mr. And last Saturday night for my sons birthday. I made a reservation for 6 and we were sat right away. Service was quick and our chef was AWESOME. He did so many wonderful things to make my son feel extra special. The food couldve used some more seasoning but I do like the dipping sauces you get in the beginning to help with that. The food was not good quality Japanese food. The vegetable tempura batter was thick and heavy in oil. Definitely not flash fried as we are used to elsewhere. The calamari tempura was mainly batter. Very little calamari. Super disappointed and we won't be returning. read more

The Manfolk and I went to Mr. An's for my birthday and invited some good friends to join us. Dinner and a show is always fun! I made reservations about a week in advance and thank goodness I did. When we arrived, there were at least 50 people waiting outside. Mr. Ans has the teppan dinner service but also has regular dinner service and even a nice bar menu. The chef's do a great job and the food was yummy. Will we do it again, probably not. But, we will eat in the regular restaurant area or enjoy happy hour in the bar. Went here on valentines 2024- absolutely spectacular experience. Our chef was completely entertaining, the food was unbelievable. Steak cooked to perfection, filet mignon was melt in your mouth perfect. Hubby got the teriyaki chicken and just wow!!! The entertainment and the food are so top tier I couldn't tell you which is better. For a special occasion, this is the place to go!! I have dined here many times with small and large parties and have never had an issue before. Last night we were a party of 15 and experienced extremely long wait times for drinks and food and had a not so friendly server. We ordered appetizers when we sat down, they did not come out for about 40 minutes and the rest of the food came out shortly after, even though entrees were ordered after. The restaurant is a little dated and well it's not outright dirty, I wouldn't look closely at the corners. The host and servers were all friendly but definitely seemed overworked... I think everyone in Tucson must go here on their birthday. We spent probably about an hour and a half eating our meal and talking; I think we heard them sing happy birthday to nearly 20 people in that time, it was almost comedic. Our food was pretty good, standard hibachi and on par with the price that we expected to pay. Our server was really nice and obviously distracted by all of the birthday singing but did forget to bring our salads and soups until we asked for them but we were already eating our meal at that point. The smell of seasoned rice, meat, seafood are inviting. The cooks are working hard to entertain. This was a first at this spot. I was not comfortable at the side seat when the cook start flipping & spinning a spatula & fork. Was afraid it would spin at me. Later a spatula trick did go wrong & my dates plate & drink flipped spilling on him. No one came to help, clean up or assist. So I had to rush to clean up & replace the napkin & utensils from another table. The food was delicious. If a mishap happens, especially on a customers clothes, I suggest staff respond quickly. read more

Have heard about Mr An's for so long and finally made it in for a little out of town birthday celebration. The food was amazing! Everything was perfect. Or server was great and answered all our questions. We ordered multiple dishes and the timing of everything was perfect. We started with crab puffs & pot stickers. Both were delicious & we loved how delicate they both were - a perfect serving, leaving room for what was to come. Then we had a beef broth mushroom soup and salad. The broth was perfectly seasoned & the salad dressing was unique. We ended the meal with the Poseidon's Plate, a beautiful, heaping plate of lobster, shrimp, scallops, fried rice & noodles that came with a trio of dipping sauces (the garlic butter & the ginger sauce were the best). Food portion is VERY LITTLE at the Teppan table. Some of us arrived earlier than the rest of the bigger group so we sat at the bar and ordered some Monkey bowls, these were ok but not that good. And as our group of 10 people all came on July 4th 2023 and ordered 6 orders of sushi rolls average $17-$18 per order. These came out around 6 small slices on plate per roll, and I can tell right away the quality and portion is very poor from experience of a person eating out a lot at other sushi places. But what disappointed us even more when our 8 orders of Combinations carried out by a cook. ( average each combo was about $34 each and we had some order average $63 each) Land and sea, sky and sea ect. (Beef , chicken, shrimps) is what they named for, and oh so they combined all 8 orders of combinations and cooked in front of us let me tell you here they are: about 3 small bowls or cups of fry rice with 2 eggs, about 20 shrimps , about 20 pieces of chicken size like the small fingers, 10 pieces of beef about 1/2 small finger, , a small if noodles, All of those cooked in front of 10 people and splitting into 10 The bill was around $600 for 10 people just eating almost very very little. All I can say is if you plan to find a place to eat good food this is Not the place. I am not saying anything about the service in this review, save that topic for later.
