    Katsu don

The vibe in this place is really cool! People are here doing puzzles, there is live music, it's fun on a Friday. Lots of space here so doesn't feel cramped. The service was okay.. we waited about an hour for our food which was rough, it definitely seemed like it comes out slowly. The actual food itself was good. We got the Katsu plate with chicken thighs, and the katsu don with pork. Also ordered the furikake fries. I felt the fries were very average. Not super flavorful. The katsu was good! Rice could've been more fresh, but not disappointed. Mostly wish the service was better. Not worth an hour wait in my opinion. Prices are reasonable!

Located in Brick Box Brewery off Broadway, the space is open and stylish with a laid back vibe. Katsu House operates within the venue, tucked to the side of the bar. For takeout they offer a selection of ready-made Onigiri. If you're ordering off the menu, you will place your order at the bar. The owners are the same folks behind Fatboy Sando. As for the food, the Onigiri was ok. The spicy tuna had some strong spices and the Hambagu was a hamburger patty with rice. We also shared the Katsudon pork bowl, which was a generous portion - enough for two. Overall, it's a great place to grab a drink and a bite to eat.

Food is a 5/5! I'm truly obsessed with the quality and flavor. Service has been a learning curve... I've been 3 times and only got to eat once. The first time we waited 45 minutes for our food. The second time we waited longer and asked them to cancel our order because we had to go. The third time it was about two hours before close and they were out of everything except some onigiri in the fridge. Not sure what the hold up is, but just keep all that in mind when wanting to try Katsu house.

    Mushroom katsu plate

First time here and I'm excited to go back! I got the vegan katsu plate w/ added caramelized onions and the mushroom was cooked so perfectly I'm so happy (I've had too many bad portobello mushroom dishes at restaurants so I'm always a bit cautious). It was crispy outside with the panko and cooked so it wasn't too wet or chewy inside the mushroom. The portions were a great size for the price (about $11) and the rice seasoning was really good I wish there was more of it throughout the rice. This was inside of brick box brewery but the brewery part was closed so the only drinks offered were the Katsu house ones. The inside is spacious but we did go mid morning on a weekday so there weren't many people to fill the space up.

This is a great stop for your Katsu fix . I got the pork katsu sando and it was magical. Katsu bowls, Katsudon , onigri. Almost like Tokyo. Or at least Costa Mesa. Get in here now!

Pork katsu ! 10/10 coming from an Asian born and grew up in Taiwan

All I can say woooow !!!!!!! I was completely blown away by how good their food is ! I got pork katsu plate with curry mayo and let me tell you, it's prob one of the best I ever have. Their pork katsu is juicy and moist and they did not over cook the meat. The meat was tender that I feel like crying when I was eating it. Rice was moist and not dry, they make the Asian way correctly. Dressing for the cabbage was good. Everything tasted perfect. I also have their fruit sando and it was good. I would give this place a 10/10 and this is coming from me who was born in Taiwan and grew up there. I am generally picky with Asian food since I also cook and have traveled a lot. This place def capture my heart and I am going to be a regular from now on. Highly recommend this spot to anyone !

From the Bay, to, Honolulu, to LA this is hands down the best Katsudon I've had. The value and flavor is obscene. Service was a little bit more tricky, but the food itself was worth the wait. Had no clue Tucson had game like this.

Steak Katsu, spicy mayo, sesame dressed cabbage slaw, white rice.

OMG, what an EXQUISITE meal--My fried pork chop dish and hubby's vegan platter--chef's kiss perfection! My pictures do not do it justice! Chef Brian checked in during the meal to regale us with witty stories of cookng for luminaries like Mary J Blige, Eddie Murphy, Forrest Whittaker et al! It was the ultimate Chef's table experience!! You've got Forbes on one corner, Ugly But Honest Pizza on another, and Café Desta / 5 Points Market nearby, each are great for very different reasons. Chef Brian's absolutely belongs in that conversation. I came in with a friend who's spent a few years in the South and takes collard greens very seriously. To our surprise, the collards here are vegan and excellent. Great texture, deep flavor, and not an afterthought at all. Chef Brian told us it's something like a 20-hour process, which definitely shows. A quick heads-up: they do not have mustard, ketchup, ranch, or pickles. If those are must-haves for you, bring them along. Service was good, especially considering it was essentially a two-person operation. Chef Brian was upfront that things were running a bit long due to earlier guests, which we appreciated. We took the opportunity to grab a drink nearby and came back, no issue at all. The food was outstanding. We ordered the fried chicken dinner with fried potatoes and collard greens. The chicken was phenomenal: crispy, juicy, and full of flavor. I initially assumed a pickle brine, but Chef Brian explained it's actually the herbs he uses that give it that depth. Whatever the method, it works. Excellent food, honest service, and a smaller, no-frills space. Chef Brian is clearly an accomplished chef, with appearances on Top Chef and Bar Rescue, among others, but more importantly, he knows food and community. Definitely add this spot to your list.

Even during the busy lunch rush with what seemed like half the downtown office crowd grabbing lunch, the staff was incredibly attentive and everything moved surprisingly fast. I never felt rushed, but I was still able to get in and out with plenty of time to spare. I ordered the Chipotle Green Chile Cheeseburger, and it was phenomenal! The smash burger patties were perfectly cooked with a great sear, and the green chile had just the right amount of flavor without overpowering the burger. I especially loved the smoky chipotle flavor. It came with their house-made chips, which were fresh and really tasty. I also ordered a sweet tea that was delicious and paired perfectly with lunch. Before I left, I grabbed a bag of the Raptor Tracks from the bakery case. I forgot to take a picture, but they were so good. They reminded me of Nutella Muddy Buddies and disappeared way too quickly. Great food, fast service, and a perfect option if you're working or spending time downtown. I'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend the Chipotle Green Chile Cheeseburger!
