I come to the Bagel Factory over and over again for the great service and egg and cheese croissant. The croissant is made in-house, and has just the right amount of flakiness and buttery flavor. The egg is fluffy, and the melted slice of American cheese ties everything together nicely. Was in the area running errands. Family member was hungry. Suggested we stop in here and glad we did. We were definitely overwhelmed with so many flavors of dairy and non-dairy spread . Everything looked delicious! My suggestion is to look at menu and know what you want beforehand. The bagels were soft and chewy. I had one toasted with eggs and onions and I had the "spectacular". Both were good. The spectacular was refreshing! Lox, onions, capers, tomatoes and a scallion cream cheese on a sesame seed bagel! Delicious! They have a pretty big friendly staff. I have to write a review after reading the one star MOLDY bagel reviews. THATS NOT MOLD. Apart from being a similar color to mold, there is nothing else about it that would make a person with half a brain think it's mold. Number 1.) the bagels are made fresh daily. Mold takes several days to colonize enough to be seen. These bagels were made a few hours before you got them. NOT MOLD. It's colored dough from rainbow or holiday bagels. The chances of buying a moldy bagel from a bagel shop are ZERO. It doesn't happen. It would take at least a week for mold to grow on regular bread. Number 2.) mold spores from in the air drop onto the SURFACE of breads. It needs to be open bread without a hard crust for mold to properly colonize. It's possible for mold to grow on an unopened bagel, but it will take substantially longer...weeks. ALSO, when you idiots break open the bread and see more green, that's even further evidence it's not mold. Again, mold grows on the surface of bread, not inside it. The spores are in the air. They have no way of burrowing into a bagel. I have had bagels here many time and they are fine. No issues at all. My only complaint is I bought a dozen of everything bagels and ate them daily a few days prior to a drug test. Tested positive for codeine and morphine. So you know the poppy seeds are good! You moldy bagel reviewers made total asses of yourselves by showing you haven't the slightest idea how mold works. Take a microbiology course before you go spewing nonsense. You also made total morons of yourselves by complaining to the health department. They HAVE taken microbiology courses and your complaint went nowhere I can guarantee. Dunces. read more

In Brooklyn for the month and stopped by here on my walk through the neighborhood and I do not regret it! The vibrant rainbow bagel immediately caught my eye so I had to get it. When I got home and opened up my food, I noticed I received turkey bacon instead of pork bacon, even though I asked for just plain "bacon." Then, I came back to my review, looked at the photo I shared, and realized I probably have been getting turkey bacon this whole time and must have been too hungry and tired to notice (I previously worked graveyard shifts and would stop in for breakfast after work). Anyway, I understand if the owners choose not to serve pork. However, it would have been nice to be told that they do not serve bacon but could substitute it for turkey bacon.. so that I could have gone elsewhere instead of being surprised and disappointed. Whew! I was looking one morning for breakfast and after two closed places on a Monday!, and a bodega with a man who kept making me wait 5 mins and forgetting about me, I stumbled across this place. I used to come here often because I worked at a yoga studio nearby that opened at 6am and this was the only place open, but I don't really like coming here anymore. The breakfast platters are a good price, compared to other diners and delis nearby, and are very filing and satisfying. I recommend their omelets and protein (especially the steak -- it's more of deli meat steak than actual steak) platters. All platters come with a small coffee! However, if I don't have to come here, I won't. Their bacon isn't juicy. I don't think they use pork bacon so I don't actually like getting anything with bacon from here. Their iced coffee tastes a little strange and bland and is 90% ice. But what really drives me away from this place is the workers. As a regular, they shouldn't treat me like trash, but they do. They seem to take extra long to take my order when I come in (sometimes they even take other people before me when I've been standing there for a while) and seem really annoyed too? Maybe I'm taking it too personally, but I'm always really nice because I've been working in customer service for many years too so I if I'm coming over to a place every morning, I want to feel welcome or I'll take my business elsewhere. Stopped going here after they started charging a 4% "convenience fee" when using a credit card. Talk about stepping over a dollar to pick up a penny. I've been going here for probably 7 years. It's a shame that owners have no creativity in how to mitigate (not new) overhead costs that come with operating in a 2019 world and simply forward the cost onto the customer. On that principle alone I'm taking my business elsewhere until this policy is reverted. Additionally, the law that governs this type of thing actually requires a business to post the separate "credit card" prices so that it doesn't require any math at the cash register, which they don't do. Btw, I'm a business owner myself and process hundreds of credit card transactions a month and yes, I pay the damn 2.9%+.30 cents for every customer transaction. It's called the cost of doing business and I build it into my operational costs. All you do is hurt your own sales with this unimaginative thinking. Way to ruin a good thing guys! Other bagel stores offer the same quality of bagels but this place always has pumpernickel and pumpernickel everything bagels which many other places don't carry. They never skimp on cream cheese so the people that mention it must be catching them in a rush or something. It's never happened to me here. Their bagel sandwiches are good too. I've only ever had the breakfast platter (which is cheaper if you come in than ordering it via a service) and their turkey cobb wrap. Cons: * The bacon is weird. It's doesn't undulate the way bacon normally does. It's kind of just, flat. The lady Victoria was super rude to me yesterday. I've been a valuable customer of this place for 2+ years and was happy about this place. However, now it's a nightmare to go there. I bought bagels on Friday and they instead of toasting them, they burned them. I couldn't eat and had to put in trash all three bagels with lox spread. The next day I went there again and this Victoria starting speaking behind my back in Spanish which is totally disrespectful. She asked to weight the lox spread container three times and was super angry and treated me poorly. I mentioned that my bagels were burned the day before and she didn't even apologize. She charged me $1 more because she seemed to be a cashier who doesn't know prices. I asked for the correction and she wasn't happy at all. These bagels are phenomenal. They are fresh and delicious. I had a toasted bagel which had a perfect crispy outside with a nice fluffy middle. The balance between the two textures was spot on. Let's start out with the not-so-great: the space is small, and there aren't many tables, so don't 100% plan on eating in during peak times. It gets crowded fast. Parking can also be a bit tricky if you drive- taking the R to prospect is probably a much better bet. Lastly, sometimes the toaster kind of burns the outside edges of the bagels- NBD, but if it has something like an everything bagel on the outside, those toppings will also suffer. (This isn't an every time thing though.) That all said- they have darn good bagels at very good prices. They also have a very reasonably priced lox bagel with all the requisite parts (onion, tomato, capers) for about $9- The cheapest I know of anywhere around here. They also offer a good selection of Sweet and savory cream cheeses- some places seem to do too many of either one or the other. Since my SO likes savory cream cheese and I like sweet, this place can always please us both. read more

ZERO STARS. I order from this place almost every day and I've always had a pretty mediocre experience. Not bad, not great. Just... average, which is whatever. For the sake of convenience, I don't mind. One time I ordered a strawberry parfait, and it came in with MOLD in it. The blackberries and strawberries had mold growing and it was all over the yogurt. -a refund was issued. It took me years to order anything from them again. After years I have it another shot. Maybe they changed owners or something cause it wasn't TERRIBLE. Like I said before, mediocre at best. Today, I ordered two bacon egg and cheese sandwiches and BOTH came in with MOLD in them. I called back Bagel Factory to let them know about the rotting food they just delivered to me. The first man I spoke to literally said "we don't have mold, we have garlic, whole wheat, rasin..." assuming there's a bit of a language barrier, I went ahead and proceeded to speak in Spanish (my native language, so I'm fluent, and they're Spanish speakers as well) the man hands off the phone to his co-worker, who is also NOT the supervisor and proceeds to say the same thing, while calling me a liar and denying everything. I live a few blocks away from the spot so I went over, with moldy bagels in hand, to show them and demand a refund. At this point, I'm so disgusted I have no Interest in ever eating there again. Even though I SHOWED THEM the mold, they kept dismissing it and calling it food coloring from other bagels. To prove my point further, I cracked open one of the bagels, and guess what? MORE MOLD INSIDE OF IT. As I'm showing them this, two of the men behind the counter begin to joke about me while insulting me and calling me stupid In (my native language) Spanish. I got livid and proceeded to speak in Spanish cause they clearly forgot I understand every word of it. They put their "manager" on the phone who thought it would be cool to talk down to me and dismiss my complaint regarding ROTTING FOOD in his establishment. They were refusing a refund so I had to go through Grubhub to get my money back. I'm a cancer patient and I almost ate mold from a Bacon egg and cheese sandwich from bagel factory. I have already reported them to the health department and will never give them my business again. UPDATE: One of the owners Sal called me this morning to apologize, at least that's what I hoped. Instead of an actual apology, he talked over time the entire conversation, justifying the state of their moldy food, which did not sit well with me. He then told me I should go down to his basement to see how their food is made.... let's be very clear about this: as a customer, it is NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY to ensure your food has no mold in it. It is YOUR responsibility to serve clean food to your customers and properly TRAIN YOUR STAFF to act accordingly. Since I've been a customer here I've seen their staff sneeze in their hands and immediately manipulate food (disgusting and dangerous) I've seen them drop their bagels on the floor and placing them right back on their heater (disgusting and dangerous) I've gotten mold in my food before AND I got mold in my food AGAIN yesterday. After complaining the staff had the audacity to insult me in my own language and now I have to deal with Sal talking over me and demanding I go to his basement, which is wildly inappropriate. After I tell him about my interaction with the staff, he defends them, THEN he calls THEM stupid, which is also incredibly unprofessional and wildly inappropriate. My response? It's not my job to inspect your space, but the health department will gladly take care of it. I said it before and I'll say it again, DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE. It's disgusting, unsanitary, and the staff on top of being incompetent at their positions, they are incredibly disrespectful. They do not deserve my business or anyone else's. read more

I have been a long time reader of YELP and this is my first review. My experience yesterday was so atrocious that I must give The Bagel Factory a single star. Yesterday I ordered through YELP for pick up. I was on my way to work and needed to pick up my wrap and go. When I got to the 17th street location they said they didn't have my order. They quickly realized the order was sent to the 10th street location instead. They told me "we don't deal with YELP". I had already paid for my wrap and after much discussion they got their 10th street delivery guy to bring the wrap over. (This totally conflicted with my original plan to grab and go--I asked if they could refund me? Nope. I asked if they could make me the wrap? Nope. ) so frustrating. So 20 minutes later I left and was late for work. When I bit into my wrap on the subway I had a foreign object in my mouth. It scrapped my mouth. I thought it was a chicken bone. It was a broken top to a plastic squeeze bottle. So gross. So incredibly gross. I am NEVER ordering from this place again. I work in the food industry. I know things happen. But this was a BIG piece of plastic. I also usually would have gone back and given them a chance to make it up to me... But their guest recovery was terrible with my "pick up" order so I am not giving them the benefit of that chance. read more

The Bagel Factory isn't my #1 bagel joint in the area, but it's a damn good back-up. It's also the closest bagel source to my apartment, if only by a hair. But, hey, when you're hungover trekking outdoors for some morning-after sustenance, every hair counts. The bagels here are medium-to-large in size, a bit flatter and wider in shape, toast well, typically stay fresh thru the standard 24-hour hardening deadline, and other than perhaps lacking a little depth in the taste department, is your regularly satisfying Brooklyn bagel. My biggest gripe used to be that their Everything wasn't fully coated with seeds and such, but rather a sprinkling, which was a pro for those who don't like a garlic-onion breath all day, and a con for shameless slobs such as myself. I'm happy to report they've since stepped up the seed-per-bagel ratio, so I'm back to being the latter these days. The staff is a friendly lot. I say this knowing that when my wife goes in alone, they call her "princess" and more or less openly hit on her. Naturally, if we walk by and we're together, I send her through the doors while I wait outside, since I'm not above selling her out for superior bagel service and maybe an extra in the bag now and again. #couplegoals? Globally speaking, The Bagel Factory makes a pretty great bagel. On a local level, this joint isn't gonna win any Best Bagel in Brooklyn awards, but it's still solid, and I'm still a semi-regular. I don't have any idea how I haven't written a review for this place yet. I lived around the corner from here years ago. My roommate was the first one to discovery its existence and said one day when I was probably dying from heat exhaustion in the summer: "THESE ARE THE BEST BAGELS EVER, YOU MUST EAT THESE!" Or something to that extent. So quickly it became a weekend tradition for us to come here and get them. They also remembered me somehow even after I moved away. So Kudos to the super friendly staff. Usually I opt for the egg bagel. Sometimes I will be adventurous and get garlic or cinnamon raisin. I went here a month or two ago while on one of my 'you're starting to get fat maybe you should go on a 50 block walk crawl' and ended up popping in. Oh, how detrimental. Whatever. They have new flavors of cream cheese than they used to have! Flails arms! Flavors ranging from blueberry, strawberry, pumpkin to your traditional scallion, lox spread, vegetable, tofu blends, and then BACON CREAM CHEESE that tastes so smokey and scrumptious, as well as their jalapeno cheddar. I've had several. I think I noticed a pecan or walnut cinnamon blend of some kind even when I went in and wish I recorded photographic evidence of everything. I also wish this place was open late at night. The actual bagel though is where the magic happens. They're different tasting. Both chewy and firm, a little crisp on the outer edges. A little less soft than Windsor Terrace's but way WAY more flavorful. There's magic in their dough that brings tears to the corners of my eyes. This is how the best bagels in the world should taste. I've been a fan for years and can honestly say that Bagel Factory is in my top three of bagel places in all of New York and is highly underrated. read more

I really don't know how to feel about the bagel factory. They have a nice selection of bagels and spreads, which are pretty good, but their inability to follow directions is frustrating. They mess up delivery every time. So I started ordering online and picking it up-- except for once, they messed that up too. One time they didn't even make my order and said I was mistaken, I must've sent someone out to pick it up (uhm... What?!). I called once and they got it wrong again. So the last two times I decided to order there. They got it right once.
