Located in a plaza with plenty of parking available. It was my first time trying out this restaurant, came with a friend on a weekday and it wasn't busy. If you're looking for an affordable meal with variety of noodles and rice platters to choose from this would be one of the places. I ordered Crispy Popcorn Chicken and Pork Meat Sauce on Rice it's usually my go to dish and I wanted to try it out here. The portion was decent and the chicken was delicious. We got the Japanese takoyaki for snack, pretty good. I'll be back to try out their noodles next time.
Location/Service This place is located in Skycity Shopping Centre, near the corner area of the aisle of stores. Plenty of parking available - could be a little busy during peak hours. Interior is pretty modern and standard. This place has really high ceilings, so a lot of good natural light comes in and makes it very welcoming. Staff are nice and friendly and orders came pretty on time. Food They have a promo going on where a few noodle dishes are only $9.90 - Crispy pork with pork meat sauce sweet potato noodles - Suan cai yu fish soup noodles - Stir fried pork with green peppers - Pork met sauce & crispy yellow pea noodles What's also great is that you can add unlimited noodle refills on these dishes! So it will fill you up for sure. Food itself is pretty good - more on the spicy end - though when you order (via the QR Code), can make a little adjustment to the spiciness. I like how flavourful it is and it comes spiking hot. Very comforting to eat and perfect to share. Not sure how long this deal will last, but definitely worth a shot.
The Chongqing lamb skewers ($5.99 for two) are shallow fried slightly crisping up the crevices and dusted with cumin and chili powder. The bite sized morsels are like a flavourful popcorn lamb, tender and tasty without the gaminess. Modu's menu is dominated by noodles with so many choices that choosing between the soup base, protein, and noodle types can be dizzying. We settled on their signature braised beef noodles ($15.99), which reminded me of the Taiwanese/Shanghainese version of the noodles except adorned with crispy fried yellow beans and chives... I enjoyed the freshness of the chives but could do without the oily hard mini chickpeas. Modu uses a digitized ordering process where diners scan a QR code at the table. It is helpful for customization requests given we wanted the beef noodles to be a mild spicy level. Our instructions were dutifully followed so despite the savoury broth looking fiery red the spiciness was tame. For those who don't want an ounce of heat, the signature freshly boiled chicken soup with noodles ($13.99) features a spice less broth that has a rich chicken taste. It was a tad oily for me but goes well with the noodles and garnishes. At first, it may seem like the kitchen forgot the chicken but dig to the bottom and you'll find a handful of chopped pieces. There's not a lot of fowl and it does include the bones, so if you're in the mood for big morsels of meat, you'll want an order of the fried chicken on the side. Any chicken used in this dish is more for flavour than sustenance. Yet, you'll never leave Modu hungry as they offer free noodle refills. Simply request an order online and in a few minutes a bowl will arrive (about a cup and a half). Personally, I enjoy my noodles with a springy texture, so I did find Modu's too soft. If you're like me, I'd recommend requesting the noodles do be cooked less when ordering.
A perfect spot for fast, flavourful and filling food. This place was bright and spacious. The server was attentive and handed our order pretty quickly. The spicy wolf tooth potatoes (4/5) were crispy and spicy. They were coated with cumin, five spice and chilli oil. The Rice Noodles with Pork Meat Sauce and Crispy Yellow Peas (5/5) was super aromatic and well-seasoned. A side of bok choy also goes well with this dish. I really enjoyed the crispy yellow peas as well. The Spicy Wonton in Chilli Oil (4/5) had a savoury broth that's mouth-numbing and rich in umami. The wonton's were meaty and juicy. I also had an additional side order of braised beef to add into the dish which I find not as tender as I'd liked them to be. Their noodles were cooked nicely. They had a perfect chewy and bouncy texture. They also offer free noodle refills but their portions are pretty big to start with so one portion was enough for me.
It was good, we had 2 bowls of noodles, both with different meat opitions. A good quantity of meat, the broth was very good, but a little too spicy for me, next time I will order the non spicy. The unlimited noodle for the broth was worth it. My husband loves noodles. The durian rice cake was delicious, but very hot, all the food was hot to the table. The place wasn't fancy, but clean and comfortable. Lots of room at the tables. The price was good for the quality and quantity. It was a good value.
I was sold on their current promotion which includes certain dishes for only $9.90 and comes with unlimited rice/noodles. Not sure if the spice level is customizable as they didn't have the options but I guess you could write it in the notes section. Service was quick even though there was only 1 server working at the time! Need to go up to the counter to pay or request take out boxes. The unlimited free refills for the noodles are wonnnderful, while the soup & meats were packed with incredible flavours. Most importantly - DONT sleep on the snacks/appetizers here!! The lamb skewers - while they may not look like it - were some of the BEST I'VE EVER HAD! Many other Chinese restaurants usually just serve them with lots of spices and cumin, Modu's spice blends on these skewer were not only spicy (while not overpowering), but also sweet & tangy brust with umami that drew out the best parts of the lamb's fat and flavour profile. God damn. We also had fried rice cakes with brown sugar - another absolute banger. Unlike other places that add the brown sugar syrups on top after directly frying the rice cakes, Modu's rice cakes were more like tangyuan with brown sugar filling inside, and then fried with light breading. This keeps the rice cakes with lots of integrities and crispy textures while being airy - super refreshing and delicious I got an ice jelly dessert to go, and it was super delicious and refreshing, too. This place has really good food, from the appetizer to the main course to the dessert. I will be back. The lady was very detailed oriented as my friend has penut allergy, and she made sure the dessert and food are penut free (you have to let them know in advance tho.) The restaurant is overall clean and comfortable. The only small thing is that it's actually not as cheap as you thought it'd be. We ended up with about 30 dollars per person.
I came here on a rainy evening because I wanted something hot and I've seen this place all over instagram. I believe they opened in October so fairly recent. Place was empty when we went for such a large dining area. For such an empty restaurant I found the service very slow but then I realized they did get multiple delivery orders. We ordered the sauerkraut fish and the spicy potato noodles as well as the fried chicken. Sauerkraut fish: 3.5/5 was a standard flavour but lower ranking because not much fish. Potato noodles: 4/5 stars in my opinion but I always love potato noodles so I may be biased. Chicken: 3/5 because they were extremely oily. They did give a good amount of chicken but it came cold. The selling point of this restaurant is the unlimited rice and noodle refills. What is different from this place to other staples like Yunshang is that u can order several kinds of noodles and it doesn't have to match what u originally got. Can fill up on potato noodles, hand-pulled ( skinny noodles) and more. It was so much that I ended taking it home to eat. This place is very affordable with dishes averaging 14$ with unlimited refills. There doesn't appear to be a minimum spend per person so you could really get one order for 2 people and get noodles / rice refill if you wanted. I'm hoping this place stays open so come eat here !
Came here yesterday to try them out because I've been seeing their advertisements on instagram. I thought the food could have been better. I got the beef rice noodles and my friend got the tomato beef rice noodles. I thought the beef had good flavor and the really liked that the soup was piping hot. The tomato was very bland though and could use a lot more flavor. We tried the durian rice cakes because it was on promotion for 2.99. It tasted very artificial and the durian flavor was very weak. It was very empty on a Tuesday night with only two staff working at the front. The service definitely could use some work, we never got any water refills, it always took a long time to get their attention even though the store was empty and they automatically charge you 10% tip which wasn't really explained properly. Overall, it wasn't the greatly, can't say I would come back.
This is a solid budget-friendly spot for quick Chongqing-style noodles. The Sichuan noodles are the standout -- very flavorful with a good amount of heat, and they go especially well with the potato noodles, which have a great chewy texture. The sides are also worth ordering. The fries and fried pork were both delicious and paired really well with a bowl of noodles. I also tried the chicken noodles, but they were quite bland compared to the Sichuan option, so I wouldn't recommend those. One big plus is the value: once you finish your noodles, you can get a refill, which makes it very filling for the price. Service is fast and there's plenty of seating inside. The ambiance is pretty basic and nothing memorable, but it's ideal for a quick meal or grab-and-go. Overall, this place offers great value. The Sichuan noodles and sides are definitely worth getting, especially if you're craving something quick and spicy. read more

Food 4/5 Service 3/5 Vibe 4/5 Always a lovely spot for a late dinner near midland and finch. I got the minced pork beans dry mix noodles, spicy potato fries, Pork with pepper and Beef with veggie dish. (They are also doing a special, every main dish you get, you get a free skewer and drink) Overall everything tasted very good, personally i think their noodle portions are much bigger than their rice portions. So if your hungry, go for the noodle! PSA: their rice and noodles are unlimited refill, so thats always a bonus! 4/5 stars! read more

Overall I think place is great because of lots of things. Like the bbq is just amazing and the chicken noodles are great. Also once we ordered we did not need to wait a very long time. Also the restaurant it's self is very pretty. read more

Tried the Scarborough location after trying the North York location. The special where you get a side with a noodle order was over. That was a good deal. The noodle soup and taste was good and you get a free one time refill. Of noodles. Service was very efficient. read more

Such good food at an affordable price! The noodles are super comforting, especially on cold days, and the best part is they offer free refills. Definitely a place worth coming back to read more
