I feel like, now that I am within reach of owning the flute, the harassment has dialed up. First, the company needs to clearly EXPLAIN that past due payments apply to past due balance first and not regular monthly payments (don't tell customers all is well in the instrument universe when it very clearly is not). Second, they need to be consistent with past due notices. They shouldn't let nine months go by without any conversation or notification or past due fees and then start to harass customers and create fees and spam notices out of the blue. One star: perceived inconsistency and lack of knowledge as far as knowing/explaining customer accounts. Zero stars for being annoying when the mood hits them. read more

Not my favorite business. They have made several mistakes due to lack of clarity - especially around the instrument payment plan for child's instruments. There is a lack of effort with being proactive. Their price, especially with the plan, is extremely high and their hours and staff helpfulness aren't fantastic. We paid $500 for a drum I see on Amazon for $109. And the quality of their instruments is not as special as they would have you think. read more

Our son's alto saxophone was accidentaly damaged and we needed a small part repaired or replaced. The repair personnel at David French stated they could repair or replace as needed, and offered to do this for a reasonable fee. It was a bit of a drive out from Boston, but I took my chances. The staff were wonderful. The skilled repair technician replaced the part from an old parts horn and carefully installed it and added a covering jacket piece. All work performed in a low key manner as I watched. No extra charges. I am so grateful to the folks at David French, and so glad I made the trip. I highly recommend them for instrument repair without reservation. I also noted they had many units for rental and we will definitely return if we need a rental. After calling regarding receiving a broken violin case and cracked violin I inquired If this were normal and assured a new instrument would be delivered. While the case was not broken this time we again received a cracked violin except the new one had some obvious repair work done on it. I'm still left wondering if this is normal in anticipation of them stepping up to a larger instrument. I'm also unsure as to why there would be a repair and replace plan I am paying for if it's already been previously damaged. They are also unresponsive to emails. I had to call to inquire after waiting and not receiving a response. read more

The second or third or maybe even fourth music shop in the area, hell why even go now that I'm thinking about it. There is no reason why anyone would make an effort to go to this music store, besides the fact that they might have some good teachers, the store is small, no digital cash register (they probably still use the abacus). The worst problem though is the lack of hours that this store is open. I mean hey, why would anyone want to go to a music store past about 6 pm. Nothing good ever came out of that, find another place, unless you have a great teacher here chances are though that you can do better. read more

This is a music store that truly cares about students' love of music. My oboe was leaky and in the past, I have been charged hundreds of dollars at other stores for mediocre service and okay fixes. I was scared that it would take weeks to get my instrement fixed. Instead of going to the stores I usually would go to, I tried French's and they had my oboe fixed in half an hour! They're service is wonderful, and they have a solid selection of instrument care products. read more

Two major complaints: 1.the quality of the instrument i got for my son through his school via davidfrench music was not good.low end chinese trumpet. 2.the price of the instrument was pretty high, what you'd expect to pay for a decent quality student instrument. 3.the rent-to-own agreement charges the equivalent of 50% interest.wish i'd read the fine print. 4.when i asked the company for a little payback given all the $$$ i'd paid them.they said no dice.not surprising. 5.if i had to do it again, i'd buy the $100 trumpet from guitar center.i don't think the quality is any worse, and it would certainly be cheaper. read more

Brought over a trumpet that had a tuning slide stuck for a few decades after all of my efforts to remove it without damaging the instrument had failed. The technician -- ( Adam I think was his name ) did it while I waited for a very minimal charge. I was able to finish restoring the trumpet and it is back in use. Great personal service. read more

We have been renting a flute from David French Music via our school music program for the past 2 years and have had a great experience: nothing but great things to say about them--- prompt service (we needed a minor repair done to the flute we rented and it was back in less than a week), competitive rental prices (even with the insurance add-on), the instrument is of quality (considering our daughter was a beginner at the time). David French Music' tech comes to our school on weekly basis so it's very easy & more importantly very convenient to have an instrument checked if something were to go wrong. This is a small music store which also provides private lessons at competitive prices, which include the ability to participate in recitals and orchestra. We participate in a rent to own program for my child's instrument here. Friendly customer service, and they honored the instrument's repairs covered under the rental contract. There is an option to have monthly rental fees automatically debited. They have all the basics you need to begin your child's musical career. read more

In the day and age of big corporations taking over our local businesses, French Music is the neighborhood music store. Their customer service is second to none. They know there stuff, and truly take pride and care in helping each young musician or professional musician in whatever way they can. Eric French is determined to not sell the brightest and most expensive, but to provide each person with what will fit them best in their music career at this point. Whether it is a student model instrument, the right mouthpiece, or serious repairs, I would recommend French Music to all musicians. As a saxophone player I have found that their repairmen go above and beyond in their service, cleaning each instrument, and providing meticulous repairs. My child decided to try the school instrument instruction and possibly marching band activity. David French Music was one of two places recommended for instrument rental. I called ahead to see if they had one in stock, asked them to set one aside because we'd be right over, and drove out to Westborough. Not enough parking spaces for such a busy place. (Older) woman who helped us out at the front desk was told we were the ones who called ahead and that we wanted the student saxophone we ordered an hour earlier, and the free book that came with the rental. She brought out a clarinet. When we said wrong instrument, she brought out a flute. Really?? When I asked her what else we would need for our child to begin his music lessons because we had never tried saxophone before, she said "nothing---everything is in there." We signed up for the school-year-long rental, got home, and discovered she never gave us the free instruction book. When lessons began we were told child couldn't have a lesson that day because we didn't have "reeds" nor a strap that would hang the instrument around the neck. Grrrr. Drove back. Had to buy both---NOT included in the rental. Hate to base my review on one experience with one sales/service clerk---but the frustration, plus time and gasoline wasted warrants it. Won't ever go back, especially now that we know there is another option not too far away. read more
