I recently gave them a good review but it would not allow me to edit it so I am now giving them a new review. I have been going there since I've moved here seven years ago and their food is very good, but I've never complained despite almost every order has an error on it But this time this error is unacceptable and the lack of management/owners responding to me is deplorable. I ordered mushrooms on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. I also ordered them on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The June 3 order was very good so good. We ordered them again on June 4. The order received on the fourth was despicable. First of all they were overcooked to the point that they were falling in pieces secondly they tasted like they pour that assault in with the batter and third I was sick the whole night and I was home alone and could get no help from anybody Due to being alone. The next morning I contemplated on going to the ER because I had been sick all night long and I am disabled and wasn't sure what decision to make. Luckily from being awake all night I was able to get some sleep the next day when I woke up, I still was nauseous and felt Pretty sick. It was obviously food poisoning. I called the restaurant and they took the information and said the owner/manager would get in touch with me today is Sunday, June 8. I have called six times now. The owner/manager has never been there, but I was told he was there tonight. They would put another note on this desk as he was in the middle of something and I should hear from him. Well it's no surprise. I never heard a word from the owner, which is whom I was told was in tonight. I understand that the original owners passed the restaurant down to their son whom through the rumor mail of a small town. It has been said he really didn't want the restaurant, but now he has it. It's very appearance that he has no interest in the customer service of his restaurant or putting out a decent product this is a shame. This restaurant has been in this town for many many years from what I'm told. It is similar to a Dairy Queen. They have ice cream treats And fast food as I said we have used this restaurant for seven years. There were weeks that we would order three or four times within one week, but now it is so obvious that this Management owner has no interest in helping their customers in anyway now enforced to put through a claim at my bank, which is a real pain in the butt but unfortunately, it's my only option. It's also my favorite go to place for frozen lemonade and real cherry Coke made on the premises which I'm unsure if I can ever order anything from them again so if I were to give them a review, it would be zero and in the future I would advise people to be careful with what you order and even though they don't respond, do not hesitate to give them a call even though they won't bother to resolve any issues. It's the same there aren't many restaurants in this town and now there is one less I would truly be surprised if they're still in business a year from now and being such a small town we really can't afford to lose another business. I walked in feeling like a champ. My head was over heels and most of all, my spirit was high. Today was a new beginning. I was going to order Mr. Freeze and finally redeem this place. I walked in, greeted by a much more friendly worker. I felt cared for, he cared for my order. My joy ecstatic lasted long not. After ordering my vanilla malt weeks later, I expected a change in creation. Apparently I was proven wrong. I sit, waiting over 7 minutes in the empty store, only awaiting my malt. Others walked in, ordering and receiving their food/drinks, proclaiming how magnificent it was. I however was not as blessed. I finally get my malt, 10 minutes after ordering time and take a sip. The blended ice cream, milk, and malt rushed through my throat and into my stomach. Moments after alerting my taste buds, my joy destroyed. This malt stray so far from a normal one that I couldn't accept it. I asked about it, questioning the integrity and authenticity of it, when I was met to the conclusion, this malt was 2 scoops malt over. I am disappointed. I wanted to believe that this place could redeem itself in my eyes. I'm sorry, Mr. Freeze, but Mark my words. November 1st I will return for my final review. Me and my family love this little place. The food is so amazing that we have started visiting atleast once a week. Nick and Kyle are so sweet and we really enjoy ourselves with them. And the manager with the long hair (I don't know his name but he is always there) is also very sweet and hard working. This place is an absolute diamond in the rough. Me Freeze has been a favorite of mine since I was in 3rd grade attending Hawthorne Elementary!! I am now almost 27! When I moved back from Texas this last year after being gone for 6 years, Mr Freeze was one of the first places I went too!! And I STILL got the welcoming hello that I was always greeted with as a kid!! The ice cream and cheese fries took me back! The hot dog special is a favorite too! Definitely recommend!!! read more

Don't get me wrong, this place is fun but! And it's a big round butt! The ice cream quality is pretty low, the staff depending on who's there is pretty bad but some of them have been nice, it's hit or miss really. I don't think that this place is super bad but I will say it won't blow you away, for locals it's a nostalgia thing. Avoid the food at all costs though. read more

This review is for their frozen lemonade only. Hands down the best frozen lemondae i've had. Fresh squeezed lemons, shaved ice, plenty of sugar and lemon slices. Been here twice now and there isn't a thing I dislike about the place. On my first trip, I had some mozzarella sticks which were very, very good. This time around I went with a double burger and an order of cheese fries which knocked it out the park for me. Some of the best cheese fries in the county and the burger was phenomenal. Mr. Freeze is a nice little spot. I'm surprised by how big their menu is--way more than just ice cream. The inside seating is a little tight, but they have plenty of outdoor benches too so it's not so bad. My go to items are a slush float, two dog special, or blue cheese burger. Its an Ice cream shop in Marengo that is nice. Really like an old fashioned ice cream shop in a typical small town. Worth the visit.

We have eaten at this restaurant a couple of times, but most of the time we order take-out from them on Mondays which are my day off from cooking. I generally get the double bacon cheese burger, which includes 8 ounces of ground beef, fries with a side of cheese sauce, and a side salad. I share the salad with my 97 year old mother who usually gets chicken fingers and fries. To-date, the food has been consistently good. I wouldn't call it high end, but it's a whole heck of a lot better than McDonald's or other fast food restaurants. read more

We eat here about 1-2 times per month in the fall/winter and more in the spring/summer because of their ice cream. Their food is good, it's made fresh when you order. The cheese fries are good but you never know what you are getting, sometimes they are dripping with cheese and it's too much. Sometimes there is just barely enough on them to call them cheese fries. This is a bit of the mid west that you have to experience. Mom and pop owned, they hire kids from the local high school. It feels like John Cougar Mellencamp should of wrote a song about this place! The mushroom Swiss burger is to die for. The banana splits are what they should be. This is a great place to bring the kids for their ice cream cones in the summer. We've been coming here for ice cream almost every Tuesday night and dinner several times a month for the last 5 years and its by far the best ice cream creations and grilled food in the area, hands down. I grew up in town, have always loved Mr. Freeze. But it's gone downhill. We went in last night and there were 4 people in there. One was waiting so long he left. The couple in front of us had been waiting 10 minutes for dipped ice cream cones. We ordered, the kids working there were non-responsive, didn't greet us and seemed annoyed with us. The kid taking orders gave the order to a girl who messed it up. We ordered 6 things- twinkle cone, chocolate dipped cone, chocolate in a waffle cone, brownie delight, turtle sundae and frozen yogurt in a cup. Twinkle cone they made into a sundae charging us extra for whipped cream and a cherry, brownie delight was yogurt with brownie chunks on it, and plain yogurt never came out. So we brought it to the owners attention, and she made us pay to fix their mistakes. Stating we didn't pay for all our ice cream. I will not go back. To top it off the owner had a meltdown on the phone which carried out into the outdoor space where she saw a dog which was sitting nicely, she acted like it lunged at her, screamed and made a huge fuss. I've been there during sports seasons where there's whole softball teams lined up and they handled it well. Lunch rush and summertime when people filled the place. They need to train the teens, have a responsible and calm adult there to manage and up their customer service. Otherwise I don't see them lasting....which is sad because it's been a staple in town forever. read more

i have been a customer here for 7 years... the food is good but worst service ever... when you buy food make sure that you check to make sure you have everything in your bad because they are money hungry and when you go back to say you forgot something they will be very rude and embarass you in front of everybody!!! they are very unprofessional.. the owner is no better he will laugh at you and ask you if he can pay you off with food. talk about a prick!! so if you chose to eat there the food is good but make sure you come in ready to be treated with dissrespect and be embarassed!! oh and they will make you pay for your food again... not to mention not give you a recepit so you can prove you paid for it even though when you walk in the girl who took your order says oh sorry i know we forgot your food...
