Ok, by the size it's bigger than my beloved kegs & barrels. The wine selection was pretty good, and I think they have a bigger selection of belgians then i've seen anywhere. But the service isn't as good as kegs, and their craft selection is a little smaller as well, if i'm over on that side of town it beats the central market just up the street. This is my second visit to the deli and both times it has been OK. They have a great variety of sandwich options (order by number!) so it takes a minute to look over the menu. I was in the mood for an Italian sub, preferably toasted with just olive oil. Looking around I did not see an oven that would work on toasting a whole sandwich (although I did not ask), instead I got the number 77 I think it was the San Fran club, turkey and ham cheese and bacon on sourdough. Bread was nicely toasted, bacon crispy and a lot cheese. For $7.50 I expect a lot more meat than what I got. It seemed more like a grilled cheese with turkey, ham and tomato. Oh and they don't have any napkins on the counter, you have to wait until you get your sandwich. While I was there I was also looking for some Harpoon Hard Cider which is next to impossible to find. I didn't see any and was looking around for someone to help me. There was no one at the register, no one on the sales floor and no one at the main sales floor desk. I was wandering around for a good 5 minutes. What??? Overall great concept, not bad sandwiches and a great variety of beer. Need more sales help and more meat on the sandwiches. read more

Spec's is clean and friendly. One thing I've noticed in Texas is walking into a true liquor store gives you the shame of walking into an Adult Book Store. Spec's is not a ratty hole in the wall like most stores I've been to in Texas and is well stocked and professional. read more

They do sell Beer and Wine, very very nice selection on both... but this review is for the Deli. Hands down its the best in town. They have tons of choices. Its more New York sytle than Jason's Deli style. Do it right and get a Reuben your first time (they have over a dozen kinds of reubens). My favorite is the Tex-Mex Reuben with Double Meat. Their roast beef is out of sight! They cook it over night, and it tastes as such. They're reasonably priced, but not cheap. read more

Mr Gs is a hidden gem in the back of a liquor store. I have only tried one item on the menu. It was the first sandwich I tried and will be the last one I order from here till I die. Yes it is that tasty it's the one the only Mexican tuna that comes toasted to perfection. For an added kick of spice ask for pepper jack cheese who knew that this deli would be so great. The only reason this review gets two stars is that the sandwiches were good... could have been better, but good. The prices were a rip-off. I doubt I will visit this place again. Philly Cheese Steak - $7.88 Dry - had they add more mayo (or whatever) it would have been excellent.) Gyro Sandwich - $7.63 Tasted really good, but did not have the usual bulk and feel of a Gyro. I did ask them to leave off onions b/c my husband does not like them, but I would not expect that to make the sandwich flat. 2 G's Tuna Melts - $6.31 each. I asked for wheat instead of rye. In my opinion, rye is for egg salad sandwiches. Anyway, got one on wheat and one on rye. On the plus side - the sandwiches were grilled on the grill... not put in the toaster and called grilled. The tuna salad was excellent, and the sandwich was large. *I would buy the Tuna Melt again because it was prepared correctly. If I found another place that cooked it as well, then I would pass this place up altogether.* $2.09 Sweet tea that tasted pre-prepared (it had the slight lemon taste used for preservative) and I did not like it at all. I dumped it out and went next door to Dickies for a tea. The styrofoam cup was the same as old Mr. G's and would be considered a small anywhere else. BTW, that drink size was the only thing I didn't like about old Mr. G's, but I don't recall it costing over $2.00!! Old Mr. G's usually gave it to me on the house when I came in for take-out. $31.08 Grand Total (after a $1.51 discount for paying cash) All-in-all, old Mr. G's was a grand slam. The staff knew every sandwich, would customize anything, had amazing side salads that changed up daily with the mood of Mr. G (I guess.) I loved it, it was a special treat. That crazy board of sandwiches was entertaining to read while waiting... I never made it through the whole thing before I had my sandwich. The new Mr. G's sucked. I went in thinking that I would bring some sandwiches and a side home for dinner. First thing... no sides, except single serve that I couldn't tell what was in the little container. It didn't really look obviously like fruit salad or potato salad or whatever. The menu (that made the whole atmosphere work) was gone. The cashier and cook replace with newbies. During lunch, I heard that you could name an old sandwich and they would make it for you. From the reviews, I guess that is not true anymore... I suspect that was when they were changing over. The entire menu is WAY overpriced. When I assumed chips came with that price, I was shocked to find that was not true. Worth pointing out again, it cost me $2.09!! WTH?? Notice the trend for the reviews has gone down dramatically from last year... and any year before. That is Spec's doing. read more

Great little deli, I had the pastrami and man it remdinded me of a small shop in NY. Very friendly and very fresh. I'd definitely recommend swinging by for a fresh quick lunch! Even the chips are 10x better than the other restaurants...for a little more than subway, you'll get a great meal. read more

I work right by this place, so we come here once every 2 weeks on average for lunch. I haven't had a bad sandwich yet. The Revitalization Salad is awesome. There are so many choices! I've never had a problem with any of the employees or anything else. I would recommend the Corby, Mr G's Hot Italian Hoagie, the tuna is good, their meatballs are awesome. This is a lunch staple for people visiting the area on business. A great casual lunch place. It doesn't hurt that you can pick up a bottle on your way out :) I hope those that have had a bad experience here would come back and give it another chance. One of the best sandwich shops in the area, possibly the best. They have a huge variety of sandwiches, many of which are creative takes on deli classics. I eat here at least once a week, if not more, and still haven't managed to try everything on their menu yet. read more

Easily the best deli restaurant in the entire Dallas area. I didn't even notice the deli when I first went there, I thought it was just a beer and wine store (probably because their hours are so limited so the deli was closed whenever I went there). That being said their beer and wine selection is overwhelming, then at the back of the store is the deli...They have such an incredible selection of deli sandwiches, I've been going there several times a month for a while now and still haven't tried everything on the menu! It's strange but there's hardly ever anyone there eating, I guess they do a lot of delivery/catering business...grab a sandwich from this place some time, you won't be disappointed! read more

Mr. G's is now owned by Spec's. I frequented Mr. G's prior to Spec's taking over ... going there for over 20 years for beer, wine and kegs for parties. Loved the store and got exceptional service. Now that Plano offers hard liquor sales, Spec's has bought them out and after my most recent visit, I will never go back ... to either this location or any other Spec's ... that's how bad my recent experience was. The customer service I encountered on 2 visits myself and 1 by my daughter in ordering then trying to return a keg for a party was abysmal. The story goes ... I ordered a Fat Tire keg a week before my party. The person who took the order was not in the least bit helpful. I pretty much had to ask pointed questions to get any answers. It was as if I was bothering him to even be in the store. Then I was told I would get a call if there was a problem with getting the keg. No call came ... but the day of the party, I showed up and there was no Fat Tire keg. I had to settle for Bud Light as it was the only beer I was willing to take from what they had in stock. I also bought other items ... and asked where to find them (a special liqueur was one item) ... but with hardly anyone else in the store ... the guy behind the counter would only point in the general direction of where I was to go ... couldn't be bothered to leave the counter to show me. Also ... what liquor store employee can't tell you where to find simple syrup? He'd never heard of it ... and didn't bother to ask anyone else about it. Next offense was when I asked how many bags of ice came with the keg. "Oh ... didn't they tell you when you ordered it? We don't provide ice and cups with kegs anymore. We did that as Mr. G's but Spec's doesn't do that." No ... I was NOT told that but then ... I would have had to have asked to get that information since the employee the weekend before wasn't helpful. I was going out of town the Monday after the party and asked my daughter to return the party pak. I had been told that the receipt would be necessary for the return by the rude young man from whom I ordered the keg ... even though the trash can has the Spec's rabbit logo clearly stamped on it ... but my daughter lost the receipt. When she and her boyfriend tried to return it ... they were treated horribly by whomever they encountered. Again ... it's CLEAR that this party pak came from Spec's ... and it's hard for me to believe no one has ever lost a receipt before ... but they were treated as if they had committed a felony ... and that party pak is now sitting on my back porch. I posted this story on their Facebook page ... and after a few days, I finally received an apologetic response from someone ... no name was given. They said they were embarrassed by what happened and would work with me on returning the equipment. However, I asked for them to provide a name of the person I should ask for because I don't intend to deal with any random employee there again. And 2 days later ... I still have no name. I would dearly love to get my $180 deposit back ... but it's not worth going back to have to deal with anyone other than the person who commented with the apology. So more days go by with Spec's keeping my money. I personally now will only go to Total Wines. I went there for the simple syrup, was asked quickly by an employee if I needed help, and was taken to the simple syrup ... no pointing vaguely in the general direction. It's sad to me that a store with which I've had so much history is now so poorly run but life's too short to put up with bad service. read more

Usually this place has good food but lately it is waaaayyy to greasy! AND the dude that has been taking the orders does not LISTEN and screws it up.... I had to order the same thing 4 times while standing there bc he was not paying attention then I finally said the # and he was like "OHHHHH OK". Then I got my food to go and got out of there. Probably the worst chicken philly I ever had. The bread was soaked and the only thing holding the sandwich together was the paper they wrapped it in. As soon as the paper came off, the sandwich just literally fell into pieces. I took one bite and tossed the rest. Spent the next few minutes cleaning all the grease off my fingers and face. I really used to love this place! A wide variety of subs with great ingredient proportions! There is nothing better than a deli sandwich that is packed so full of meat and ingredients you cant get it in one bite. But it seems they are cutting back and you now get as much meat as at subway =( yet the prices have stayed the same. Yes, they do have more variety, but at least at subway or quiznos you can customize your toppings. I was such a fan, and now I am so disappointed! read more

If you want to eat a good sandwich in Plano, Texas, this is your spot. I work a mile away from here and have eaten here so much I've asked them to add my sandwich to the menu, "Zach's Turkey Dance". Service was friendly and treated me with respect, but after I ordered I got kicked out even though I am 18 and had no intent of getting any liquor (thought the deli was just next door to the liquor store not a part of it) but after I ordered and sat down they checked my id and said I had to be 21 to be there and kicked me out, I never recieved any food and they never refunded my credit card like thet said they would. I was a little worried when Spec's bought this place, but I have seen a lot of changes for the better. The sandwiches in the deli are still tasty (though if you take a newbie here, you will get some strange looks when you explain that you are going to a liquor store to eat). The beer selection is still first rate. The wine has always taken up the majority of the floor space and still does, but in addition to friendly, knowledgeable staff (who can help those of us who are not wine experts), the prices on the wine appears to have gotten a lot better. One brand that I bought in the past at Mr. G's for $35 is now more like $21 at Spec's. They give discounts for paying cash, so plan ahead for that. read more

I called them up, told them what all I needed and was happy with the price, extras, and the attitude on the phone. I told them I'd like to place a keg order and was told they have plenty of Bud Light and to just come in, no reserve required. So I show up the night before to get it early and was told they sold out all their taps and all that was available was the keg itself with no more available until the next week. MORAL OF THE STORY: Place the order no matter what the guy says because if you don't, you might get SCREWED over because they were too lazy to make sure they would have what is NECESSARY for your purchase. Used to be an awesome place, one of my favorite lunch spots. Loved the chalk board menus with the myriad of choices. Apparently some new management took over and decided to "improve" things by changing pretty much everything that made the old Mr. Gs a success. They have ruined one of the best deli's around. They really should change the name because this new place has nothing in common with what it was and they don't deserve the previous glowing reviews Mr Gs used to be worthy of.
