Beer and wine selection is pretty good. But I'm going to review the deli. We decided to try the deli out for lunch a few weeks ago. Wow, the selection was a little overwhelming. Everyone in our 6 person group enjoyed their lunch. I had the philly cheessteak and dare I say, I liked it better than Fred's! The bread was awesome and it had lots of onions and peppers but not so much that it overpowered the meat. Yum! Quite happy to go back again and try something else! read more

I ordered the family jewels and my husband had the #94. My sandwich was enough to feed two people. 3 large meatballs, an all beef grilled dog on a roll covered in chili. It was enormous. Hubby's pastrami was really good. The meat was lean and flavorful. He said he'll get the double meat option next time. read more

After hearing over and over about Mr G's "orgasmic sandwiches" on Ticket spots and during on-site remotes I finally decided to give this place a shot. Who wouldn't want to eat a sandwich named after their favorite radio personalities!? This place is 2 minutes away from home so I took off into the night... only to be disappointed walking up to the deli entrance to darkness. They close at 7. DAMN. I get home at 7, this isn't going to work too well for repeated visits. My wife and I ended up taking a day off from work and stopped by later that week. First impression: Jesus O_O. They have a bazillion choices. I ended up going with a Reuben just because it was the first thing on the menu. I ordered to go from the nice guy behind the register that warned me with a smile: "It's going to be a minute. We don't like to rush things because we want you to come back!" I didn't know what to expect when I got home, so when I opened the standard size to go styrofoam container I was shocked that the sandwich took up 90% of the damn thing. Pretty big sandwich for $7! The Reuben was messy as hell but it was delicious. I decided to take a menu home so I can be more prepared the next time I'm able to make time and stop by for lunch or an early dinner. read more

Damn that's a sammich! When they had to tape my container shut to conceal the sandwich I knew I was in for a massive treat. I ordered the Dirk Nowitzki Monster and yes it is a monster! Some of the best meatballs (next time just ordering the meatball sub as this is way too big) I have had. I love the French bread and the toppings on this thing are just insane. Order it and give yourself a few days to finish it! The two gentlemen manning the deli also couldn't have been more nice. Can't really say much about the deli or its ambiance since this place is located in a liquor store. Food wise, price is decent for the size of the sandwich only, not a great deal or too expensive. Sides & drinks are separate, no combo deal. For taste & flavor, it's ok not hyped about it. read more

Been craving a good pastrami on rye sandwich for a while and trust when I say you can't find many places in Dallas TX. But I found this place by accident and had a great sandwich that satisfied my craving. I recommend it, people are nice the place if big and very clean which is always a plus. Being from NYC, this place reminds me of home so I'll return in a few weeks to make sure I feel the same way about it and it was not just my lucky day. read more

This is my go-to place for wine. Their selection is amazing! Aisles and aisles of crisp whites and sultry reds from all over the world. I feel like a kid in a candy store here! Their prices are very reasonable; probably a few bucks less than what you would see for the same wine in a grocery store. All of the wines have tasting notes displayed above them, and most have Wine Spectator ratings so that, if you have no idea of where to start with choosing a wine, you can at least be sure that a 90+ point rating is going to be a decent one (although tastebuds are subjective, of course!). Although I've never met him, I have it on good authority that their wine buyer is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and will search for an obscure wine if you ask. I highly recommend Mr. G's if you want a conveniently-located, decently-priced wine-buying experience. read more

I was disappointed that they don't have the specialty list anymore, the blackboard is somewhat gone and that the menu has slim down considerably. What happen!? Came here on a Wednesday during lunch. I was hungry and wanted a sandwich and decided to yelp a sandwich location and this popped up and thought I give it a try. I didn't realize it was located in Specs until I drove around it and saw the sign about Mr G's. Came through the front of Specs and located in the back was Mr G's sandwich shop. Looked at the menu and got a philly cheesesteak sandwich and a bag of chip, which cost less than $10. Got my sandwich freshly made and it was very delicious! I was amazed! It was a good size sandwich and the ingredients were fresh and tasteful. I really enjoyed it and will come back to try the other sandwiches. Besides if your curious ask about the story behind Mr G's, I was curious and asked about it and it kind of reminds me of another location where I'm from in California. I love hidden places like this, they seems to always be the best. Service was great and fast too. Great place for a quick sandwich to go. read more

DON'T BUY YOUR KEG BEER HERE! To be fair, my friend who picked it up was told to keep the receipt. OK, we were put on notice of this. However, when I was able to return I did not have the receipt with me so I was told, "that's we tell people to keep their receipts." Fair enough if that's your game to trap $110 from people on a technicality. Just be warned. I refuse to believe with modern POS systems, which Specs does employ, that they are unable to look up a transaction on a card...especially for a special order that was made ahead if time. There is plenty of a paper trail to return my deposit. I think it's a piss poor excuse to rob money from people. Needless to say won't be back to Specs. read more

This will be a review of their beer as I have not had anything from the deli yet. I have to say that this place has one of the best selections of beer that I have ever seen. Luckily, I live 2 blocks away. They have an awesome selection of beer and rotate out frequently so there is always something new to try. If you don't know what you like you can grab an empty 6'r and just grab whatever singles you want right out of the cooler. They are very quick to get the seasonal selections out I have found their customer service to be just fine. There are some folks there that definitely know more than others but overall this place is great. If their food is anywhere as good as their beer selection it must be good as well. read more

Really enjoyed Mr. G's in Plano. Excellent lean meats. I tried the corned beef Reuben one day - pastrami Reuben the next. Both great. Soaking the bread in butter before grilling is a little over the top for me but the big crowd didn't seem to mind. Note: this deli will be renovated soon - cutting half the deli menu out and adding burgers. Just hope they keep the Reuben's! read more

Not as good of a selection as a larger Spec's, but they have some unique beers and liquors and there is a really cool vibe to the store that goes back to the old privately owned style. This deli used to be phenomenal, but since it is no longer "Mr. G's", it is not very good. My Rueben was not flavorful, there was almost no corned beef on it, and rather than Russian dressing, it had some sauce they were calling "chow chow". Tried this place because my girlfriend always tells me how awesome it is. She goes here frequently for lunch. She did really know but I noticed that a lot of the sandwiches are named after local radio personalities on "The Ticket". The one I tried was awesome. Very fresh meat and breads. I can understand why she loves this place and hope to go back soon. If this review were written 4 or so months ago, it would have been 5 stars. Since then, Mr. G's underwent a slight facelift and a streamlining of their menu for the worse. Not only has their variety gotten worse, but everything is a bit more expensive than before which is a real slap in the face when customers already have to buy everything seperately here. Finally, sandwiches I had gotten before the facelift just dont taste the same after it. They still are tasty sandwiches, but they just arent as tasty as before. It used to be a weekly stop for me, now i go once in a blue moon when I decide its worth getting a relatively small sandwich for a high price that dont taste much better than a more generic sandwich shop anymore. Nevertheless, my recommendation for anyone who hasnt been is go give it a shot, you might like it more than I do now. read more

Regarding their wine & beer: their selection is really great, the service is even better. The prices are not the best in town, but it is convenient. There are definitely higher prices out there. We bought a few bottles one evening & they have this cool "chiller" thing where they will chill your wine for you in about 5 minutes. I haven't ate here in 13 years but now I am in the area every week because I am going to Texas Oncology undergoing chemo which is practically across the street. The sandwiches from my memory are so good. So after chemo last Thursday I had my husband take me by there. Got halfway through my sandwich and it had a big long HAIR in it!!! I almost threw up and it doesn't help I had just come from chemo. Honestly I will never be able to return. But I hope someone reads this and address everyone's hygiene there. read more

This deli has gone downhill significantly since being purchased by Specs. The original deli owners are no longer around, and the quality of sandwiches, salads, and SERVICE is all much worse the it preciously was. 5 years ago, this place would have gotten 5 stars from me. Not the same Mr. G's! It used to be the best deli around with an awesome Reuben but since its been fully taken over by Spec's, it's sub-par at best. As has been previously noted, they now make their Reubens with some "chow chow" sauce rather than Russian dressing, use marble bread instead of rye bread, and are skimpy (to put it mildly) on their portions. From what I understand, you can still get the old dressing if you ask for it but they don't even carry rye at all anymore and I don't even know how to go about getting the same amount of corned beef on it as it used to have. read more
