The field is set up on the triangle shape of the intersections, and it's relatively small and packed. The layout is so random and disorganized, no clear lines for entrance to different programs. They don't seem treat their animals very well, I overheard one of their employees argued with a customer who cared about the pony.

He and his wife started these pop up ventures as a place where people and families could gather in a fun and safe outdoor space, where kids can be kids and adults can enjoy a sip and relax. Dan focuses on libations from local producers and CA wines. There is music and an outdoor seating area where there are games to play. Dogs welcome too! We went the Sunday afternoon before Halloween, and predictably, the Farmers Market was packed (the parking lot was full, so we had to park at the Grove, which is its own thing). We figured this might be the case but were willing to deal with the crowd because surely, the pumpkin patch at the Farmers Market must be fun and festive, right? Apparently, not at all. I don't know if this was a pandemic downgrade, as this Mr. Jack O'Lantern's has pretty positive Yelp reviews, but what we found was a sad tent pitched over asphalt, half-heartedly strewn with hay and a few odd pallets of pumpkins. There were, by my estimation, about the same number of pumpkins you might find at your average Trader Joe's. There were a couple of places where you could place your child for a photo, but they weren't particularly good. One of them just had a plasticky backdrop with the Mr. Jack O'Lantern logo printed all over it. This was such a disappointment that despite caring very little about pumpkin patches until that morning, I became mildly obsessed with the idea of taking him to a good one, and built my following weekend around a field trip to Shawn's Pumpkin Patch in Palms (farther away, but worth the effort). I like the Farmers Market and I'm sure my kid will spend plenty of time there throughout his childhood, but never again for the pumpkin patch.

It was not too crowded, and there is a lot of parking on both the left and right side of the zoo, which made it easy. Before entering, there are many vendors selling food, hats, accessories, and children's toys. Children under 2 are free, ages 2 to 12 were $22, and adults were $27. I believe there is also a senior price, possibly around $24. We were able to go through the entire zoo in about 4 hours, and the kids spent some time at the playground, which was new to me since I had not been here in a few years. If you are going without children or with older kids, you could probably get through it faster. Some animals had been relocated to another zoo, and the elephants were not there, which was a bit of a bummer. We were told animals get put away about an hour before closing. I am not sure if that applies to all of them, since we still saw some animals out around closing time. We were able to bring in our own snacks and drinks, which was nice. They do have a few spots that sell food, drinks, ice cream, and other snacks, but they were a bit expensive for me. We did end up getting churros and shared them since they were really long and more than enough for my kids. Overall, it was a fun visit.

I don't know why businesses in this economy think it's okay to keep overcharging customers with crappy service. What a waste of money.
