I ordered 7 tacos assuming they were $2.50 like the board said, but ended up paying $4 per taco which isn't a huge deal thinking they should be a decent size for that price. They were basic street taco size which is really small. The torta was big so I got about 1/4 of it and it tasted good and filled me up. The food took a while to prepare considering we were the only ones outside at the time but the service was really hospital and polite. But Mr. Jalapeño's food staples are all actually pretty decent, and their horchata is relatively on point as well. As a vegetarian, I can't attest to every facet of their butcher skills, but I can say that if my picky-as-all-get-out brother-in-law will eat a carne asada burrito from them, you're probably gonna be A-okay my friend. I believe they've also worked up the customer base to build a brick-and-mortar store, which is also a good sign. They have a sizable menu, so selections are a-plenty, and their staff seem polite enough even when they're pretty slammed (which is often). The worst time to visit (in terms of both the wait and the consistency in quality) also seems to be the time you'd be most likely to crave the taste: late night. I love this place! Its our go to mexican food! Its not your typical mexican food you get anywhere. The combination of all the topping they offer is just perfect. Thier meat is never too salty but always tender. Another reason I love this place. Last time I ordered on a busy night a homeless person approached the truck. Typically when a homeless person show up the owner or a worker would shoo them away but for the guys at Mr. JALAPENO they nicely offer the homeless guy a nice decent food. After a rather long day, which culminated in shopping at Lowe's for a variety of things, I was way too "peopled out"and only wanted to go home. I was also starving. I spied the taco truck in front of Lowe's and ordered two chicken tacos. I devoured them. I might have inhaled them. They were beyond delicious. Food truck review! Before the pandemic, we had a single generic foodtruck at our workplace M-F for breakfast and lunch. It was ran by two nice Vietnamese ladies and they crank out decent Mexican food and occasional weekly specials and even rice plates. They must have been there for like 5-10 years, but have since disappeared between 2021-2022. Maybe they retired from all that business we gave them, LOL! Nowadays, our workplace hosts a random gourmet food truck T-Th. Prices are higher for sure, but the variety and quality has increased too. Mr. Jalapeno is one of my favorite options for Mexican food, especially quesadillas! Quesadillas are my favorite Mexican dish for a variety of reasons: 1. Not as dense or filling as a burrito 2. Not as light or messy as tacos, where you need 3-4 to get full 3. Not as messy as a tortas, where sauce can often leak everywhere 4. Does not require utensils unlike a burrito bowl or rice plate. There's something perfect with having cheese and grilled meats fused together and sandwiched between two flour tortillas that are both crispy yet soft as you chew them. Cut them up into neat triangular wedges and you get a no-mess, easy to eat lunch that's perfect. Both pastor and chicken are excellent, and I'm looking to try the rest of their meat options. Also enjoy the small sides of chips, grilled sweet onions, and yes the grilled jalapeno. Although the jalapeno is not the spiciest pepper out there, it brings plenty of heat for me! read more

The first impression my boyfriend and I had was how modern and clean the aesthetic of the truck was. I am new to Pittsburg and I wanted to try this place so when they were added to DoorDash, I decided this was the perfect time! I would never order from there again and based on my first time experience. I ordered a carne asada burrito and it only had about 6 pieces of steak, tiny pieces of steak at that! It was filled with mainly rice and beans, barely any steak, literally 6 small pieces of steak!!!! The pieces are cut really small and idk if it's the same dining in or if they are just trying to get over on DoorDash orders. I paid for extra sour cream and it was barely any sour cream even with the extra, it's like they used a teaspoon to put the sour cream. I felt so played getting a burrito through them, I have never had a burrito this skimpy of meat. It was okay if you want a bean and rice burrito, but if you are looking for a carne asada burrito, don't get it from here, they are charging rice and bean burritos as carne asada burritos, I am really disappointed, I woke up the next day feeling disappointed that I paid for a steak burrito and only got 6 pieces of small steak, very small steak cut into 6 pieces, that's crazyyyyy!
