Sometimes finding the perfect meal or snack is about using Yelp to it's fullest. And sometimes, in small towns, it's about knowing the right people. This is one of those moments. I was in what SEEMED to be the middle of Nowhere,VA recently, doing some fire department things. I caught up with a department friend who lives in the area, who decided lunch would be at Mr. J's Elkton Express. I wasn't skeptical, but I also wasn't optimistic.But I do trust Tim, so off we went. What a lovely surprise! A lot of their menu seems focused on bagels, so count me in! Though I'm marginally a bagel snob, as I worked in NYC for many years. But my breakfast sandwich, on a toasted Everything, was incredible. Coffee was tops, too. Small town feel. Even though people didn't know each other, there was chit chat, friendly banter, the type of community and connection that seems sorta cliche but is so very heartwarming in person. So. Great service. Excellent bagels and sandwiches. Pretty good coffee. Zero complaints. Definitely a good place to pop in for a quick lunch, get snackies to go, or even grab a bunch of bagels and sides for a party or meeting. read more

We had a large group 12 total and this place was fantastic. Quick service and amazing bagels. So good we had to go back the next day for more. There are some picnic tables outside as well with amazing views. Definitely have to check them out! read more

Adorable little bagel and coffee shop!! Located about an hour from the southern entrance to Shenandoah National Park (and, conveniently, 20 minutes from my favorite Hipcamp location), Mr. J's Elkton Express is stocked with all the bagels, sandwiches, and coffee you need to fuel a good hiking trip. They feature a wide spread of bagels that you can either top with cream cheese or one of their many breakfast sandwich options. I really enjoyed their egg white and spinach bagel sandwich -- the portions were quite generous, and the melty cheese helped to keep the sandwich intact as we ate. We also tried their egg, cheese, and Beyond sausage bagel sandwich, which was also super tasty as well! I was pleasantly surprised to find Beyond meat here, and it definitely added a good hit of extra flavour. The staff is super friendly, and I love the way they display the bagel varieties of the day on the elk antlers -- such a cute way to show people what's available! read more

Nice people but they have no clue how to run a business. The potatoes were very undercooked cooked. The eggs over cooked. i ordered bacon. they forgot it. people weee coming in and out complaining about getting the wrong order or not getting their bagels with their order. horrible. read more

Absolutely the best bagels I've had in a hot minute. Hands down. Coming from living on an island, legit good bagels were hard to find and being able to snag not only a delish egg sando on one but also a dozen day olds was absolute heaven. Tucked away minute from Massanutten, this spot is IT, especially when you're talking Sunday, earlier than anyone should be awake, because most stuff is closed. I loved the options for all the brekkie and the setting was ample: my only complaint, and it's small, is that coffee is limited to drip. Fair enough, it's a local spot and likely that's what sells, so not too disappointed on that. Def a must stop if you dig the carbs in an "O" shape! read more

Oh my!!! Mr. J's is a splendid find. If you're passing near Elkton on your way anywhere, please stop here and grab some of their AMAZING bagels!! So many varieties, so soft and so much flavor!! Their bagels go with everything, breakfast sandwiches , all types of lunch sandwich staples, But you have to leave some room for the dessert bagel bites! Looking for a place to get a delicious breakfast near town and no huge wait? This place is the answer. Cute ambience, no wait and great breakfast. Husband had a breakfast sandwich in a bagel and I had a pumpkin bagel with pumpkin cream cheese - and they even had pumpkin creamer for my coffee! Positive feedback first: Very clean and neat environment. Excellent and friendly customer service! Fresh and tasty food. Areas to improve: more chair seating. Wife and daughter and I stopped here after a fun weekend at Massenutten Resort. We ordered coffee, bagel with lox and cream cheese, and a bagel sandwich with egg, turkey sausage, and cheese. They were adequately staffed, and the employees were very friendly. The food came out quickly and was very good. The bagels are some of the largest bagels I've ever been served. The menu is broad too. They have breakfast and lunch items. Overall a very nice experience. We will definitely be back. read more
