I am visiting for a long work trip, and this store really makes this area feel like an actual neighborhood! They had amazing grapes and a stunning variety of produce. I wish their produce was better as they go for cheap, low quality. Today they pulled a bait and switch (this is the second time it's happened to me at Mr. Kiwi) basically I was hit up for a different price than was clearly displayed on a sign, when I called them out on it they still refused to give me the display price. Prospect Market is just a few doors away, has consistently better produce, and their prices are competitive. I called 311 and filed a complaint with the city. This place singlehandedly makes Myrtle Ave a habitable place. I would move over here just to chill with Mr. Kiwi on the regular, because he's friendlier and far more useful than anyone else I know. I don't know when a bodega becomes a full-on grocery store, but this place is riding the line pretty hard. They have good beer. Good granola. Good coffee. Good, no-nitrite sausages. Fresh, quality produce. And you know Mr. Kiwi cares about what you put in your body, because he also stocks the organic and health-conscious stuff: Bell & Evans chicken. Several types of fake meat for the vegans. Ronnybrook Farms dairy. Wheatgrass shots. Pre-made salads that actually look good. A serious selection of Asian eats (noodles, kimchi, sushi, etc.). All the sauces, dressings, canned and packaged goods you might want...it's like Whole Foods up in here, with better prices. Basifcally, they've got an astonishing selection of edible items, and just to top it off, an excellent juice/smoothie bar and legitimately wonderful staff/service. The produce in the front of the store in bins is often relatively cheap, but inside the prices on the rest of the produce (as well as on processed foods) are kind of absurd. (Maybe "absurd" is too strong of a word, but standard bodega price-gouging is going on.) Most of the basic salad dressings and salsas are $8 to $10 now, a small-ish head of lettuce is $5, and the chips are $4-6 depending on the bag. Even a year ago it seems like most of this stuff was typically 1-2 dollars cheaper. I regret that we don't have a bigger grocery store in the immediate neighborhood that doesn't price-gouge the way the bodegas do, but this immediate neighborhood is bereft of non-bodega grocers. Horseradish down the street has a smaller selection but is usually cheaper (especially for processed food, maybe not as much for produce). read more

Juice bar is a solid 5 stars. I'm not completely sold on the cleanliness, but the juice they make is on point! I really had no idea what I was doing, but I walked up to the counter, gave them a few fruits and vegetables I wanted in my drink, and walked away with a huge glass of green juice! It was sooooooo good. You wouldn't even know that half of it was kale and celery. The lady making my juice was also super nice! **********************************BLACKS ARE NOT WELCOMED AT THIS STORE****************************************************** I went shopping this morning with my child at Mr. Kiwi. We bought close to $60 dollars worth of food (cash). One of the Korean employees (orange t-shirt and black glasses) followed me all the way to the counter to make sure I paid for the merchandise. He was right behind me and way too close for comfort. As soon as I took the money off my wallet and handed it to the cashier, he turned around and walked toward the back room. I have seen him being extremely agressive and verbally abusive towards his native South-American employees. These employees are working hours on end while being treated like slaves. He also tells them to follow black people around the store. Luckily for now, my child is too small to capture these micro aggressions but will soon hold a grasp of how the world views his Mommy. I will make sure that I report this incident to the proper authorities. This is not the first time I have been followed around at Mr. Kiwi's. There is a surge of businesses that are extremely hostile and uninviting toward black customers in Bed-Stuy, a historically black neighborhood. We need to become proactive and put a stop to this. Reviews on Yelp won't make much of a difference. This place needs to get exposed for what it really is. No one should ever have to go through this in 2022. read more

This is my favorite vegetable stand in Brooklyn. The employees are nice, the prices are unbelievably cheap, the fruits are delicious, the veggies are fresh and the employees are really nice people. Every time I've ever come here they've treated me like a regular even though they likely don't even recognize me from anyone. They sell flowers outside in a little shelter attached to the side that a lot of folks grab to brighten their day. I'm glad that they have social distancing set up in the store for the line because people do tend to crowd up. I come here every week that I'm able to come out of the house and will to continue doing so. read more

RACIST! I've lived in this neighborhood for two years and my boyfriend for over 6. I shop there weekly because yes the produce is fresh and so affordable. But recently I've experienced blatant and overt racial profiling. I was followed during the entire time I shopped and the guy literally came up to the clerk to see if I paid and how and the cashier did a not so discreet head nod to confirm! You could tell she was not comfortable but used to doing that for him. I couldn't believe this! I came here to write my review and sadly see many folks saying the same thing. This is unacceptable . The neighborhood has historically been Black and Latino , we have a right to shop with dignity and respect just like anyone else. I was recommended to this place by a friend. She said they make the best health drinks around. I was putting that to the test finally, when again I was in the area. It's a corner store and as soon as you see it they have fresh fruits and vegetables outside on display. When you go in the store it's a bit cluttered but organized. It old and the floor are in need of repair, but it has everything. The aisles are tight, but that's Brooklyn for you. They have two counters. One to pay and the other to order a drink. Both were maned by two people. They all were friendly and very helpful. I asked what the girl making my drink recommend I get and she put a beautiful concoction together for me. She put all the fruit into a machine that removed the pulp and poured the juice into a cup. She told me the price would be four dollars. I felt the price was fare, also there was extra in the machine she used so she told me to drink some in the cup so I could get the rest. That's great I'm my eyes. The lady at the pay counter was friendly and recommend I try ginger next visit. Trust me there will be more visits. I was pleased with the service as well as the drink. I love this store except for the fact that when i bought the puffin cereal and it said that I could adopt a puffin for one year but I want to adopt one forever wtf right? Mr. Kiwi's is my go to place for fresh press juice, you can chose any combination of fruits and veggies for $4. I just wished they used organic ingredients or at least gave you the option to pay a little more for organic ingredients. They have an array of products from mochi to amy's pizza but be ready to pay for the connivence of a local specialty shop, some of their prices are higher than Whole Foods. This is a perfect place to grab organic produce--especially for day of cooking. Most of the produce you buy from outside won't last long, but is excellent. They have almost everything you might need at this store that you might have missed while doing your regular grocery store, but keep an eye out they might over charge you since the input the prices manually and don't check. I adore Mr. Kiwis. I would go out of my way to do the majority of my grocery shopping here. The produce is seriously delicious and stays ripe for just the right amount of time. I'm down with the juice bar and very content with the variety of shelf food that they offer. They don't have much in the way of basic processed food; the stock is almost all natural or organic. Not a beer person, but I know plenty of people that would be over the moon about the bottled craft beer selection. The very best part about the place is that they are seemingly aware of how busy they get and are always fully staffed, making checkout quick and efficient. Which, let's be honest, is totally prime when it's 7 o clock and you're trying to get from the subway to the couch with your pickles and ice cream as quickly as possible. read more

Thank goodness for Mr. Kiwi's! The only other grocery option in the neighborhood is Food Dimensions, which is great if you want to die. If you don't want to die, and you forgot to grab an essential item in Manhattan, and you're me and have standards, you go to Mr. Kiwi's. Produce has great prices, but tends to be on the verge of expiration. I don't know why this is, but everything has worked out pretty well for me. Non-produce is a little on the expensive side, but what are you gonna do when you really need some cheese at 3 am in Bushwick? Not eat cheese? I don't think that's an option. You're eating cheese and you're going to Mr. Kiwi's to purchase it. They don't really have any meat here, so buy your meat elsewhere (but not Food Dimensions unless you want to die, as previously stated). They DO have those awesome little mochi cakes with the smooshed up beans in the middle (I am in love with these). I would rather have that than a hunk of meat any day, so whatever, meat! Wandering around in this cramped, labyrinth-like, slice shaped corner space, you can't help but feel like a lost, but well-fed Minotaur. At least you can subsist on fine produce (at reasonable rates), organic and vegan snacks, a broad selection of beer, and freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. My summer diet has been composed of almost nothing but their super cheap produced deals, conveniently located outside, providing healthy, affordable temptation on my walk home from the subway. My breakfasts are always brighter with a fresh-pressed $3 juice (carrot, beet, and lemon is my favorite). My late night munchies are satisfied by their selection of some of my favorite treats, including kale chips, Newman-Os, and an extensive selection of chips and salsa. Mr. Kiwi's is definitely the best store under the JMZ and my preferred stop whenever I need fresh produce. Sure, most of their grocery goods are severely overpriced (you're paying for organic/earthy-crunchy goods in a bodega in a hipster neighborhood...need I say more?) but their produce is usually SUPER CHEAP and really good for the area. Finding 3 for $1 fresh zucchini in the dead of winter? $1 cartons of cherry tomatoes? YUUUUP. It can be hit or miss sometimes, but you can avoid that by...not buying the stuff that doesn't look fresh. Rocket science, I know. Besides that, they're open 24 hours so they have all of your late-night munchie needs, from Talenti gelato to dumplings and chips (not that I know anything about that). There's also a juice bar that is always popping, no matter what time of the day or night. Fresh and inexpensive produce for the win!!! My father-in-law introduced me to this place about 5 years ago and I could not believe all that I could get for so little money. A true gem in the community where everything is so pricey and often not worth it. I used to worry at first it was too good to be true, that I'd get home cut into some produce and see it was going bad or something but that's never the case. Always fresh! I mean where else am I getting large grapefruits 2 for $1; raspberries, blueberries and sometimes strawberries for $1; fresh greens and lettuce consistently inexpensive. The cherry on top of Mr. Kiwi is the fresh juice station. A large (about 16oz) is $4 and a small (about 12oz) is $3. You choose whatever you want to put in your juice for additional cost ANNDDDDD there will almost always be a bit more made than the ounces you purchased they simply let you drink it down and pour in the remaining juice!!!
