This was at one time the place to get your produce and a great discounted rate, however in the last year or so, their produce stock has diminished tremendously, and all of a sudden bouquets of flowers now trump the area at the entrance that was once filled with, mass produce. Prices are still decent for what they may have, but it's not what it once was. Watch what your grabbing as some stuff may be rotting, at times, but overall, it's not my go to stop to get my produce, any more. read more

Dont let the rating fool you, majority of those 5 stars are from 6+ years, back when this store was actually amazing. Since then the store has significantly gotten worse even with the recent renovations. The staff is rude, the food is moldy, many items are expired, and I no longer purchase coffee from them since I saw roaches. If you are going to purchase items from here, please check the produce, check expiration dates, and make sure you check the prices before hand. The staff will try to over charge and pocket the money. NEVER PURCHASE FROM HERE, ive lived nearby Mr melon/kiwi for many years. Throughout this time I have gotten sick several times. Their fruits are often rotten and moldy, which when not sold are cut up and used to make smoothies. Majority of the stuff inside sit unsold for months and are expired. They recently underwent a renovation of the store, and while I was thrilled when they reopened, something's changed. I'm wondering if it changed owners but they bought the name so we'd think it was the same store. Produce is good but prices are inconsistent with what you're charged and what's on the sign. I was overcharged and the guy behind the register got unnecessarily aggressive and angry when I quoted the sign price to him. His reaction was rude and totally unnecessary. Maybe he was hangry. Maybe he needed a hug. Maybe he's just rude. Whatever the case, I'll take my business to Mr. Mango instead. Hopefully the clerk had a snickers. read more

Man i just discovered this place a few yrs back leaving my nail salon which is like 300 m away. Dont regret walking in here and proclaiming it the best fruit and veggie stand in bklyn. Fruits be fresh and when in season or slowly leaving season you can get them for the low low. I also like that the fruits ppl usually don't get are featured when they are in season. What a great addition to the neighborhood. Fresh fruit at low prices, friendly workers and a cheap price for the juices. They have a juice bar full of fruits and veggies. They used to be $2 for a small and $3 for a large but they recently went up to a dollar. Just like Mr. Mango in Fort Greene, there are really cheap deals here. Woohoo!! Bought $1 strawberries again and tried their chicken spinach salad ($4.99) for dinner. There was no dressing with the salad, but I was ate it at home woth my own ranch. Hope to try their juices next time. I was in a rush to get back to studying. I just visited this store tonight after reading reviews that were fantastic. I usually go to Mr. Mango and have been foe years. They are my go-to spot. But I did a little google search and saw the reviews on Mr. Melon. After frequenting this spot, I now understand why everyone raves about it. The fruits and veggies are fresh, and the staff is really nice. The place is rather small, but if you are just there for the groceries, then don't worry about that- just get what you need. Lol For the price I paid for the food I got, I am definitely coming back. Also, as a note, bring a bag with you to carry the groceries. All they have are paper bags with no handles, so best be prepared. read more

I love that they sell fresh ramen and udon noodles along with oyster mushrooms, which you don't see often at grocery stores. Well folks, Mr. Melon is a diamond in the Clinton Hill rough. A beacon in a torrent of overpriced and lower-quality produce hawkers. The produce is fresh, it is mind-blowingly affordable, and they have a great little juice bar (juice #1 is my jam). And they always make just a little too much for each cup, so you get a free refill you have to down really quickly so they can fill you back up and get you out the door. read more

This morning, I made an entire breakfast from things I got from Mr. Melon. Eggs! Bacon! All cheap. More importantly, I got a pack of delicious, fresh strawberries for a dollar. A DOLLAR! What else do you need? Friendly staff, good selection, cheap produce, open 24/7. I love it. One more reason why I like Mr. Melon more than local grocery stores: many grocery stores have bad habit with strawberries/etc of facing the rotten side of the fruit on the inside of the carton, so when you bring it home, half of the berries are inedible. Mr. Melon relies on honesty: if it looks like crap, it will be crap. If it looks good, it will be delicious. Go there. Now. Like, right now. Bring me some berries and avocado. read more

Mr. Melon is just about the greatest place ever. Let me tell you a little story. One rainy evening/morning at around 3am in which me and a friend had been...out... for quite awhile. Upon arriving home we realized we had empty stomachs...and an empty fridge. We set off on a journey to find something, anything that would feed us. After standing and staring at the sad old fries and fried chicken at the 24hr chicken place on the corner, we decided we just couldn't do it and stumbled out the door to set off home. Suddenly, we wander pass Mr. Melon, and it's bright shelves stocked full of food, the happy juice guy there, ready to make us a fresh juice as if it were 9am and not 3am. And so we juiced, and pasta'd, and ice creamed to our tummies delight. The best juice and best deal! $4 for a large + the extra that they just let you drink right there in the store - incredible. Also, the juice man is pretty much the friendliest guy you could ever come across. Also - their produce is SO FRIGGEN INEXPENSIVE. I bought a bunch of asparagus for $1. ONE DOLLAR. You just can't beat it. I love Mr. Melon. They stock everything I like, and when they don't have something, I can ask, and they will provide. I now almost exclusively shop here rather than the Met. I frequently use Yelp to complain about how underserved Clinton Hill is when it comes to amenities like good delis, supermarkets and drugstores. Compared to Manhattan, Park Slope, or even Williamsburg, my beloved neighborhood is like Antarctica. So, is Mr. Melon the miracle cure we've been looking for? Not quite. But it is a brand new, clean 24-hour joint with surprisingly low prices (not something you'll find in your average gourmet deli--some things are cheaper than the supermarket) good produce, a decent array of high-end vegetarian and organic products. The staff is very friendly, too--they seem to know they're winning new customers every time they come through the door. It is a bit of a disappointment that they don't have beer--this could just be temporary, although there's no space currently reserved for this, it seems. But nonetheless I already find myself shopping here more than I do at the truly awful and embarrassing Fulton Ave. Met supermarket, which, despite the great neighborhood staff, should be razed and replaced immediately. read more

I was going to Key Food for my produce until finally I realized Mr Melon was so much better and cheaper. The produce I get from Mr Melon has been delicious and inexpensive; I really don't know how they do it. The place is very tight so I try to go during the day when there are fewer people. They have almost everything I need and so far they haven't let me down with any bad quality produce. I agree with an earlier post that it is unfortunate that they don't have a scanner. Instead, they do the math in their head so you can't check to see the price of your food itemized but if it really bothers me, I realize I can probably just add it up myself beforehand. I recently moved to the area and one of the complaints I had about my old neighborhood was the lack of cheap produce within walking distance, so I was thrilled to find Mr Melon just a few steps from my place. $2 berries, and all of the usual suspects of standard onions, potatoes, etc. can be found for a decent price. They lose a star for two things, however: 1. There is a juice bar at the front. I went in here to get a half gallon of fresh squeezed Oj for a brunch at my place, and they didn't understand what I was asking. They only had individual cups, no quart or half gallon sized jugs for OJ. This could easily be remedied. I'm sure there would be demand for this if they offered it...they have the fruit, so why not? 2. They need to expand the offerings of produce a bit. They don't carry cilantro! Which I think is a little crazy seeing that it is Chinese owned. They also don't carry tomatillos. Key Food next door does, so no biggie...but you could easily add them. And owners: I would totally buy a Mr. Melon baseball cap, hoody or sweatshirt. Your logo and name are funny and I would run with it and have a few things for sale like that up front. You'll be surprised at how many you'll sell over time, I predict. read more

I live right down the block on Fulton, and I can't be any happier that Mr. Melon is on this stretch. I went in for the first time yesterday and bought a plethora of fruits, veggies, dairy products, and sushi for less than $20. Amazing! The prices are right up my alley. 2 pints of raspberries for $1! RIPE and ready to eat avocados for $1! The quality of the produce isn't extraordinary, but it's not bad either. It's the same quality (or maybe even a little bit better) as the Met next door. With those prices though, I don't care. The best thing I bought was the freshly made juice. I don't really order fresh juice (like, ever) so I had no idea what to get. The Juice Man made a suggestion of carrot, apple, pineapple, and kale, and I was pretty hesitant to have some veggies in my juice since I don't drink it often. But man, this was so good. I can see myself having this everyday. AND it was only $2 for the "small" of which I thought was a really good portion. $3 if you want the large size. Bargain city! Like I said, I can't be any happier that Mr. Melon is here. When Bergen Bagels comes, I'll never have to leave Fulton. read more

Mr. Melon is awesome! I am so happy to have this nifty little shop right down the block from my workplace. I simply cannot help myself from stopping in on the way home every day. Mr. Melon has CHEAP produce! And not just the basics but good stuff.... example: kirby cucumbers 4 for $1... red peppers 3 for $1, box of raspberries, strawberries or blueberries... $1 I'm a huge fan of NOT buying produce at grocery stores (prefer the street carts, farmers markets, etc), but Mr. Melon is great because everything is covered or kept cool - so you know its still good. They also have a large selection of organic, vegetarian, and vegan grocery products... but I don't find most of these items to be much cheaper or better than the 8 million health food stores in Manhattan. I always wind up getting tempted and buying something I don't need. One star is subtracted for the way they ring up your items. There's no scanner - some lady with rubber gloves manually types in everything. And she doesn't do each item at a time... she'll bag a bunch of items, add them in her head, and then type in an amount. Its impossible to keep track of exactly how much you are spending and whether or not her math is accurate. read more

Their ripe bananas are 7 for $1- perfect for smoothies or a snack if you like your bananas a little bit sweeter. Be sure to get a drink from the juice bar while you are there. I have long suspected that you, Mr. Melon, were the friendly older Korean shopkeep, always wearing the wide-brimmed floral-banded Panama hat, eagerly taking $1 mangoes and "bachelor chow" ingredients from my inebriated hands, before I could get a chance to lay them on your polished counter. I've since learned that you must not be the true Mr. Melon, as your greengrocery continues on after your departure, but somewhere lining the hole in my heart is a ring of myocardium that still, persistently and defiantly, believes. Oft during blissful Brooklyn Sunday morning bacon runs, I'll reflect on how you, upon hearing from my desirous lips a request for No.2 Red (beet, carrot, apple, pineapple), would, with half an eye twinkle and devious grin, intone gutturally toward the basement: "JUUUUUUUUUUUUICE!" I'd never had a second of apprehensive pause, for your stockboy would immediately bound up the cellar steps, ready to add two extra fingers of ginger to the concoction. The best part -- the best -- remains enjoying that first long joyful sip from the initial juice pour, feeling as though I'm getting away with something, knowing my No.2 Red will immediately be topped off. A final paean; I exult in your post-tax prices and the pennies I've happily left on your counter, willing as I am to elevate your universal 99¢ suffixes to the round dollar.
