gave this business a second chance and total fail. First experience I got a large menudo with pata it was all bone very little of anything else. Second experience just now I ordered a large menudo with pata and hominy. I get home and no hominy, when I called all I got was a sorry! for $25 a bowl I'd expect better service. To concluded I will not be going back.

Party of five on a Friday. 25 minute wait. Place was cold! Air conditioner was set on 64. Food is good but some of us had to wait longer than others to be served. Service is OK. Had to ask and wait for utensils. Fountain soda was $6 and getting a refill was a hassle.

Packed on a Sunday morning. Chips and salsa with condiments.

My sub contractor on my patio project told me about Mr Menudo. I arrived just after opening on a Sunday morning and was surprised to see the eatery at nearly capacity. We were greeted immediately by the friendly and welcoming staff and was fortunate to be seated at a table. The friendly and knowledgeable waiter brought us complimentary crispy chips & salsa and took my order of a large menudo and a La Mexicana breakfast plate. The Menudo is big enough for two to share and contained generous amounts of tripe and hominy corn. All the necessary condiments are staged at each table which was convenient. The menudo was piping hot and delicious especially after a night of overindulging with the vino at the neighbors. The La Mexicana breakfast plate was also tasty and was generous in portion. You can also bring your own pot, and they'll provide menudo to go with a two-order minimum. I'll be returning here again when I'm in need of a solid bowl of menudo.

First time here. My husband loves Menudo and I'm not a fan. I'm glad there are other options to choose from. Everything was DELICIOUS!! Authentically made. Our server Carmen was so attentive. Well established place. We've been back already since.

This is the perfect way to start 2026... breakfast with my chino and a large bowl of Menudo! Forgot to order a side of beans, next time! The food is delicious and comforting, reminds me of my mom's cooking. The customer service was great, love the attitude and smiles of the waitresses!

My mom and I came here recently for the 1st time, on a Thursday morning. I honestly don't mind the wait, because usually if it's busy, means they're doing something right. We are not Menudo fans, so we went with Carne en su Jugo and tortillas hechas a Mano... and Enfrijoladas (de firjoles puercos) for me, made also with the hand made tortillas topped with chorizo y cafecito de Olla para las dos! It was absolutely delicious. Oh and you get a conchita with your cafecito! The Service was great besides the fact that they were very busy, they were attentive. Marta, thank you for making our first experience a great one. Oh and the music was a vibe.

Victory Monday after the Packer Win. Wifey wanted menudo so had to pop in since Menudo isn't available everywhere on Mondays. Could not believe the waitlist for a Monday at 12. Small spot with a decent amount of tables. Of course we get put in the corner with the least amount of A/C. I should have asked to be moved because that hot delicious broth was killing me. Love the chips and salsa they provide and the toppings they bring out. It was fantastic and would definitely go again. Plenty of food in this bowl. Could not take it down after pounding two beers for the heat. The riblets were tender and delicious as well. Stop in and check it out. Definitely hits the spot.

I went to this restaurant hoping to find my new spot for menudo but I was disappointed. I bought menudo with a side of nervio which is not free (they charged me 5.49 extra). When i got my order, i realized my extra nervio that i paid for was not in the bag. I told the man (Memo) taking the orders about the issue and refused to rectify the situation. Memo said they had added the nervio in the menudo. I explained i paid extra for a side of nervio not to be placed in my menudo. He refused to fix the situation claiming that that's the way they do it there. So beware as this was not told to us when ordering it. Normally when you ask for a side order and you pay extra, you get a side order. Needless to say the menudo is subpar. It gave me a stomach ache. The menudo is not well cooked, the pieces are extremely long and jelly like (we had to cut them which was a drag), and it's really greasy. When you eat it, you can feel the grease in your mouth. Needless to say we will not be coming back. You would think since the restaurant's name is Mr. Menudo that they would master great tasting menudo. I rather drive to Huntington Park and get some authentic delicious menudo or drive to Fonda Maria on Firestone. We came here we tried it and didn't like it. We will not be back. Save your money and your stomach from unnecessary stomach ache.

Came in today because I was craving a Carne asada burrito. This place opened up a little bit before I moved out of the area and since I was in the area, I decided to give it a try. Upon walking in, I was slightly greeted by the few waitresses that were at the register. When I was asked if I was placing it to go order or to stay here I kindly replied that I placed a phone order. Another waitress replied with my name and I said yes. Once she gave me my order, I asked if there was salsa inside she said yes there should be. I then asked if it was green, said yes I asked for one more. As you'll be able to see in my picture that it was actually red not green. Upon taking my first bite, it lacked flavor and the burrito was dry. Luckily I asked for the green salsa that helped just a little. The restaurant look clean and vibrant but that's all. I will not be coming back not for $20 for a burrito.

Still think their menudo is one of the best but for $25 dollars, they can do better. For $5 extra, they can give you a bit more nervio or at least put it on the side so at least you feel like you're getting something extra. They insist it has to be in the bowl, which means you are getting less menudo so why $5? I even asked to buy another side order cause I enjoy nervio, but they insist they can't and only offer if I buy another bowl of menudo. WTF?!?! They offer a taco de nervio for $6 instead, but that was a disappointment. Very little meat and was all tortilla. On top of all that, my menudo wasn't served hot. Was just warm and I like my soups to be served hot! Now I'm in $31 before tax and tip for traditional Mexican comfort food that's about $15 almost anywhere else and there are others out there that are pretty good as well. My GF enjoyed her enchiladas, but agrees there are others out there as good or better and not as pricy. Beans were still great, but she said rice was off. Old or something. Service was great again and seemed very apologetic for the policy. Certainly not their fault. Hype over! Going back to the local mom and pop shops for my next menudo fix. If they get over themselves and open up a little on their policies, I might be back.

My mother and I ordered a 32 oz menudo, a chicken tamale with green salsa and a birria torta. she rated the menudo a 6/10 & said it could've had a little bit more flavor and maybe some more spices to knock off the smell. Second, The chicken tamale was not good 0.5/5, it had a good amount of chicken, in the menu, it says it's a green salsa chicken tamale, and it had a little too no green salsa at all so it was just pure white chicken meat. And last but not least, the birria torta had a good amount of meat on it, but had no consomé and the meat had no flavor what's so ever , in the case just call it a meat torta instead of birria . They got to learn from teddys red taco. read more

First time here and we were amazed by the food and service. To start off, we were taken to a table as soon as we walked in. Our server Almendra was very friendly and took great care of us. The food was delicious and great portions!! I had the Met Menudo Chilaquiles and they were amazing! The place is very clean and the ambience is great for family groups. 10/10 recommend! Sorry, couldn't take pictures of the food. It was so good that I kinda forgot to take pictures. read more

As usual the menudo was outstanding. My main issue was the service. It was slower than usual. The servers took almost 15 minutes to take our drink order and another 20 minutes to get them. My father has bad arthritis in his hands so we bring a coffee cup for him, but the server refused to fill it. She made us fill from the cup she brought. I ordered regular coke because I like my refills. Even after we got our food it took another 15 minutes to get my drink from the machine. They used to bring the onions, limes and cilantro before serving the menudo but we had to wait almost 10 minutes after they served the food. Refills were slow and not often. Some of the changes that we noticed are when we asked for more salsa they said it would be an extra charge. Come on, how many people need more salsa when eating chips. Really? Second, they used to serve small concha with their coffee but they don't do that anymore. The music was at a decent level allowing us to talk normally but the temperature was horrible. I only saw a small split air conditioner and it was not nearly enough with so many people in the room. Lastly, the wait was as expected. As popular as it is we weren't off put with the wait. Over all. If you like menudo as much as we do, go for the food but be prepared for poor service. read more

Stopped by on a Friday morning was pretty busy which is a good sign. I've been to their truck in Compton so I knew the menudo wouldn't disappoint. They had two sizes 24oz option and I believe the large 32oz I ordered pata in mine which was bomb the meat very tender and lots of it. They bring large amounts of onion which was a plus lemon and cilantro. They brought out some bomb tortillas like 3 or so... Wasn't able to do google review as recommended on the bill. Hope management sees this. 11/29/25 8:15am Marta was a great server. Friendly and organic. The restaurant was unprofessional in opening at 8:10am. Disservice to your patrons. The lady that opened doors had an ugly attitude and didn't apologize for late opening or even fake it. Walks around restaurant with no smile like most employees here. How tacky, she took lady's Starbucks bcs I guess outside drinks aren't allowed? Folks spent a ton at this place and it was only a Starbucks. For as much makeup these ladies wear they can crack a smile. Seems like outside appearance is in detail but not in friendliness. I do have to say, the person that drops off food was friendly. Not server but I guess her role is that. To drop off food. $5 cafe de olla and no refills? Not sure if I'm ever really coming back. Everything is some type of charge. The folks that walk around to see if anything bad is going on(that's the vibe they give) is a horrible detail restaurant allows. SMILE and ASK how people are doing. Be kind. Open doors a few minutes early. You are charging a bundle, make sure your customer service matches it. And get rid of that lady that acts high and mighty that opened doors had today. One more thing, when given menus, rest had just opened we asked for water, that lady said it would be a few mins. How is that? Lazy and rude. Went to place Saturday afternoon around 4pm and let me tell you guys THIS IS NOT the spot to eat in my experience. There was about four other tables besides ours. We were told we could sit any where as I walked to the back to sit there the greeter tells me oh not there that section is closed so I asked why did you say sit anywhere then? So then I sat one table away from there. We started to order, we order a torta, three tamales and two menudos, I asked for the pata to be on the side and she stated it would cost extra if I got it on the side instead of in the menudo... so now I'm think wth heaven forbid ya have to wash an extra place. My friend ordered the large plus the nerve that was extra as well sadly it was like three small pieces for I believe an extra $5.99 Food came out all together all thou we asked for the tamales to be the appetizer first: the tamales in my opinion had good filling however it was 3/4 masa and about 1/4 meat the torta was also good no complains Now the Menudo: Unfortunately in my opinion as I leaned over to smell the menudo it completely smelled like and like it was going bad, I assumed they did not clean the menudo correctly. I taste to my menudo was even worse. So I left it on the table after that Got home around 45 minutes to an hour later n my stomach was in a lot a pain and my roommate headed straight to the restroom WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK, I speak from my expierence and my expierence only since everyone else expierences things differently read more

Man, Mr. Menudo don't play around. Walked in thinkin' I was just gon' get a lil' soup, but nah, they served me a whole healing session in a bowl. The broth was deep, rich, and spicy like abuelita been stirrin' it with love all night. That tripe? Tender, clean, no funky vibes just melt-in-yo-mouth goodness. Hominy was hittin' too, fat and chewy, soakin' up all the flavor like it owed rent. Hit it with some lime, onion, and oregano, and boyyy that bowl turned into a fiesta. Had me sittin' there like, "Damn, I need a second round." Plus, it's the type of food that'll cure a hangover, fix a bad mood, and maybe even bring back your ex if you let her taste it. The service was great. all tho i will say to sit down and eat was packed but take out was easy peasy!!!!! Straight up, if you want real deal menudo that slap harder than Sunday morning church shoes, Mr. Menudo is the spot. read more

Really bad service. It always happens when it's take out. I asked for the Pata on the side and yes I got charged extra. For some reason I ended up with two patas one in my menudo order and one on the side. Food is good it's just the workers expect a Tip when it's carry out. Am already paying extra for my order and to still get manage to get it wrong. And they still expect a tip, don't think so. Fat inside with the menudo. they need to work with the old lady up front to order and put in the right order. And cooks need to not be giving too much fat and ask before they serve two Patas. Unless they got no brains am sorry but I got it from my wife I spent total of $38 for two patas and chilaquiles. Not worth it. read more

I found this on TikTok looking for new exciting restaurants in Downey. I am a big fan of Chilaquiles so we got in the car and drove right over. Everything was completely authentic. As soon as we sat at our table, they give us chips and salsa plus a side platter with onions, cilantro, and lemon so you can make your salsa exactly how you like it. I absolutely love that. My food was delicious. I really wanted to try. Café de la olla. But I decided to save it for a girls breakfast, . Yummy ! So next time you decide to come to the Beverly Hills and Latinos Downey, California, don't forget to stop by Mr. Menudo and try some of their delicious Chilaquiles. read more

They sat my family and me down. We waited over 30 minutes to take our orders why because I told a waiter I'm ready. Maybe like 15 minutes they brought our food and they took over an hour to see how we're doing. Dammit their food is great but the ladies there working waiter need improvement . My table was ignored. Clean they were more focus on the cleaning than the customers. I don't know if I ever want to return. read more

Heard a lot about Mr menudo. Service was good food came quick. Love the concha with coffee but I was here for the menudo. I'm big on Menudo and I feel that this Menudo was one big can of Juanita's Menudo. Super greasy. I've had better menudo elsewhere only came here because my other spot was closed. I always finish the everything in the bowl this time I left it half way. The ambiance was good with the music. But please make some better menudo. Super unhappy with my experience. I placed an order to go inside the restaurant. Paid an extra $4.99 for nervio and an extra dollar for the pata on the side. Long story short, I got home and opened the menudo to find none of the nervio or pata that I paid for. This is horribly unprofessional. I paid $31.87 for a menudo that didn't even have what I paid for. Never coming back. read more

Ok finally tried this place. Wow it's great . fantastic waitress but what's better is the food we enjoyed. I had two pork tamales with a side of their great beans. My partner has a small bowl of menudo he said it's the best menudo he's had in years. The place is spotless and very clean. You can tell the owner take great pride in their restaurant. So in all a great place great food and great service I'll give my 5 Stars through this place happily. A special thank you to our waitress. Carman she's like a mom and the restaurant is like her kitchen. read more

I'm giving this place 3 stars because the service was great. Diana was our server and was on top of it and was a real sweetheart. As far as the food, wasn't impressed. My father in law liked his menudo but honestly it lacked flavor and the chilaquiles I ordered were not good at all. Tasted like canned salsa. read more

I been to the Compton food truck before and menudo was perfect , I heard Mr.Menudo had opened a dine in location near by, I walked in to place an order for take out, everyone was very polite and extremely welcoming, my only biggest complaint is ....... WHY WAS THE MENUDO THAT STINKY !! I'm sorry but it smelled so nasty !! I ordered two bowls for take out, both were so smelly my friend and I threw them out , I was so upset drove from Downey out Chino and to surprise my friend with menudo. place it was very crowed , when I walked in and I saw the portion of menudo served on the plates I got a good impression , then I proceed to order a LARGE MENUDO to go since the dining room was full. But as soon as they give me the order I get dissapointed with the size of the container even worse when I get home and I find out it was a few pieces of menudo and the rest a bunch of hominy . for $23 bucks it's a ripoff ! Never again folks and I'll make sure to tell my family and friends as well . NOT WORTH THE WAITING AND DRIVING of 18 Miles , seriously . read more

Came here on Easter Sunday at 8:30am and it was already packed. We got seated in about 20 min and had a really nice server. She was attentive and her attitude was so nice. How exciting to be here for the first brick and Mortar full service Mr. Menudo restaurant. I have followed Mr.Menudo from its humble beginnings in the city of Compton as a street food vendor . Seen the evolution of this iconic brand go to to east LA and then Bellflower . But, it's Finally in Downey and the community is so excited . Ambiance- well as the second customer to walk in the space is spacious and extremely clean with great music . The decor is simple but elegant and nice staying true to a sit down restaurant . Service - extremely attentive staff and well staffed. Surprisingly they knew the menu well and even made suggestions . Food- now this is why this place stands out from so many menudo spots in LA . It's not only made fresh daily but it's simply the best menudo in California that I've ever had and trust me as a foodie I've tried tons of menudos. I had a menudo grande with pata and grano. But they can make it anyway you want . I also had a must try and high recommend Guajolotongo . Which is a tamal and chilaquiles that is a Mexican delicacy . My mom wanted to come here so we go and the wait was 1 1/2hrs!!!! That's way too long for me but since my mom wanted this we waited in the car. Finally we get seated and they gave us chips and salsa.. the salsa was good. I ordered a green pork tamale and a red one. They were both just a tad dry but they had decent flavor. I also ordered the chilaquiles trio but I didn't want the birria. The waitress said there are no substitutions so I would need to pay for a different protein. Whatever, I wanted carne asada so I paid for it. Once the food came I was highly disappointed. The green enchiladas had good flavor but they didn't pair well together and the red chilaquiles didn't have much flavor and the asada was dry overcooked w no flavor. We ran out of salsa to go with our chips and so I asked for more and they said that was a fee. My mom asked for water with lemon and the waitress pointed at the limes on the table. The thing that they're most popular for, the Menudo, was disgusting. Strong smell as if they didn't wash it good enough. Taste was horrible. Chilaquiles were also not to good. Service was ok. I've been here twice on Sunday's. Parking is limited and there's street parking. First time we waited was 45mins and second time was 1hr. I don't have a problem waiting in most cases. Both times we were seated it takes at least 20mins or so to get your food. Few tips. Know what you want to order BEFORE being seated so you can order your food right away and lay off the chips and salsas! I recently tried Mr. Menudo and I must say, it was a disappointing experience. Let's start with the birria tacos with consome. The menu fails to mention that the consome is extremely spicy. It's so spicy that it practically clears your sinuses. If you're not a fan of spicy food, you're out of luck because the management refuses to take it back or offer a refund, even though the menu fails to warn about the spice level. Moving on to the chilaquiles, they were nothing more than mediocre. There was nothing special about them and they definitely didn't live up to my expectations. We ordered an egg over medium and received an egg extremely over hard. Super crunchy! As for the asada tacos, the meat was incredibly dry. It felt like I was chewing on cardboard. It was definitely the most dried out meat I've ever had in a taco. To make matters worse, Mr. Menudo has a policy of no refills on chips. Yes, you heard that right. If you want more chips, you'll have to pay for them. And the same goes for horchata. No refills allowed. It's quite disappointing to see a restaurant nickel and dime their customers for basic items like chips and drinks, and their prices are pretty high! The service at Mr. Menudo was also disappointing. It was slow and inattentive. Throughout the entire meal, not once did they ask if we wanted a refill on soda. It's a basic service that should be offered without having to ask for it. Overall, my first experience at Mr. Menudo was far from pleasant, and I have no intentions of returning. There are plenty of other restaurants in Downey that offer much better food, service, and value for money. read more

This place seriously delivers some of the best menudo I've ever had! The flavor is rich, authentic, and clearly made with love. The staff is super friendly and attentive, even when it gets busy. Don't let the low ratings fool you--some people just don't like waiting in line, but honestly, the line is proof that it's that good. I'd rather wait for great food than settle for something average.
