I ordered the fried rice today with the pork and an egg roll. The fried rice was very different, authentic. I really enjoyed it. The egg roll was cute, tiny and long. Also very good. The staff was very friendly. If you download the app, you get a free side. So make sure you do so! It took about 7-10 mins for the staff to make the food, and you can see through the window that they make it fresh. Very yummy. Portion size is reasonable. Not great but reasonable. I expected SO much more than what I was given, not in quantity or amount of food, but the value of my money and the flavors in the food. The cashier was very friendly and inviting. That was a good start. I ordered an OG Rice and Egg Roll combo. I chose sweet sausage and spicy sauce option for the OG Rice, which is supposed to have scrambled eggs, sausage, and mixed veggies in the fried rice. What I was given was a half pound of fried rice drenched in sriracha with a few peas and paper thin slices of penny sized sausage circle rounds. This was ridiculous. I took a few bites, dug around looking for the eggs, the veggies, and some actual pieces of sausage..and just tossed it. What a shame. How cheap can you be? seriously. This is such a disappointment and just shameful. I paid $17 for my meal and I was given a mound of rice and sriracha? Wow. The egg rolls were alright. small but crunchy shell, and the pork inside was decent. But it did not make up for the fried rice. AI say that Pho is one of the Best Soups to eat, Thinly Sliced Beef and Rice Noodles with Jalapeno, Basil, Bean Sprouts and Scallions all together in a Hearty Broth. This was 1 of the 11 Trucks that was in attendance at the Bills Tailgating Party. I only had 3 Trucks from there and this was one of the Three, what made it think for me to get a Bowl of Piping Hot Soup when its 88 Degrees out I'll never know. The Soup was Loaded with Wafer Thin slices of Beef, Rice Noodles, Bean Sprouts, Thin slices of Red Onion for some Sharp Mild Flavor, Thai Basil (for its Floral Notes and Hints of Licorice) and Fish Sauce and Sriracha (to accent with elements of both Salty & Spicy). I took my first Spoonful, it slightly burnt my Lips and my Tongue, but not that bad for me to enjoy it. Every sip and slurp of Noodle I took, I ignore the scorching sensation that was happening in my Mouth (I thought Pho-get about it). I managed to eat all of the Noodles, but while I slurping up the Broth, the burning Question in my Head was (What am I doing, I should drink something Cold and Refreshing not have my mouth be as hot as the Mohave Desert). Maybe I caught them on an off night, but my experience was more like pho king disappointing. And maybe I need to start ordering what is clearly the specialty, in this case PHO, hence the name. Alas, I ordered the Spicy Asian Tacos, which were not spicy in the least and the chicken was EXTREMELY dry. And $6 for two of the smallest tacos I've ever seen? No thank you! I will stick with one of the million taco trucks in DTLA for $1 tacos. I also had the "Phunky Fusion" Fried Rice, which looked good, but the pineapples (which I was excited about as a main ingredient) were rancid and lived up to the name "funky." This past friday we attended a Hot Wheels x Fatlace x Illest event and happen to find out about the Pho King Awesome food truck. First off the name alone puts a smile on your face when you say it. Thats points already.. We ordered the following: Spamusushi- was really good but my daughter said there was a little too much spicy mayo. 4/5 Kung fu loaded fries- was really good and had the right amount of spice to it. Spice was not overpowering but felt it was perfect balance. Meat was a bit salty for my second daughters liking but she finished it anyways.. which means it was good for her 4/5 Asian Popcorn Chicken had a nice crunch and taste to it. She said she got way too much rice. 4/5 Overall we liked the Pho King Awesome food truck. Would definitely go back and try the other entrees on there menu. Yes! It's about time there's some good quality pho that isn't packed with MSG. The broth is a Clean broth. It's not greasy, nor does it taste like your typical plain chicken broth (pho ga). What could be better than a bowl of hot soup, with the aromas of star anise and coriander and other spices on a cold night? They have other stuff too like egg rolls, King Bap, and fried rice. Saw this food truck at Long beach Comic-Con. They had pho. Ordered a beef pho $12 and a spam sushi $11. The pho took awhile to come out, like 20 minutes. It looked like a small size bowl (Westminster size). The sushi was a joke. There was only one small roll ! The pho smelled great, so I dug in. It tasted savory and umami and a sweetness from some herbs and oxtail broth. However, it started tasting salty and a strange herbal taste I didn't like. Something about it made me stop eating. I had Honeybuns try it, and whatever it was, he didn't want it either. It wasn't MSG, no metallic taste, but something from herbs or spices. Honeybuns said his sushi roll rice was dry and crumbly, but the spicy sauce he liked. Guess this is not our flavor profile. Your mileage may vary. read more

Came across this food truck during a Night Dive event at the Long Beach Aquarium and thought "out of all our options this was probably our best bet..." Now... I love Pho... hell, I love Vietnamese food in general; so right off the bat I knew I wasn't going to cop myself a (probably overpriced) bowl of pho from a food truck. Overall, their menu isn't huge, which I rather prefer since food trucks in general are really pricey now and they don't really give you enough to fill yourself up with just one order of anything. But here's a thing I really do have a problem with... if you're going to post up pictures of the delicious food porn you have posted on your truck, don't you think it would be somewhat considerate to put corresponding prices somewhere instead of having the grand total come out to be as a surprise to your customers??? Here's the lowdown of the couple of things we we're able to order since everything else we wanted was already sold out an hour into the event: Psycho Stick Bowl (4/5): I was a bit skeptical at first after seeing the portions other customers got with their fried rice... and for the price of around $10-$11, I would have been truly upset if the skewers we're just subpar. The photo was a bit deceiving since it gives you the impression you'll get 4 sticks when in reality you only get 3... but mannnn, once you get a bite of the meat from this entree, you won't be regretting your decision with this choice as much anymore. The meat itself was so tender and full of flavor and pretty much just melts after a couple of bites. As for the white rice, it was soft and sticky, something that pairs really well with the skewers and just does a great job of absorbing the juices and filling you up. Spicy Asian Tacos (3/5): Each taco is tiny! For someone like me who takes huge bites, you can literally devour each one with two bites. With that being said though, they're considerate enough to at least give you 4 tacos per order which help put me at ease after finding out I spent $22 for just two food truck items. Other than the presentation and hype though, I have to say that I've had way better fusion tacos for cheaper... hell, I've made better Asian fusion tacos than what they serve here! Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these tacos are nasty and horrible; not at all. I'm just saying, I don't justify charging people $11 for 4 tacos that just look and sound "special." We would have LOVED to try out their egg rolls and Spamusushi but they we're all sold out by 8pm that night. Besides the fact that you build up an overwhelming anxiety as you keep adding more food to your order and not knowing the price for each item, I'd say Pho King Awesome needs to overhype their business and bring it down a notch. Maybe go with "Pho King Great" or just "Pho King." But in my honest opinion, you guys definitely aren't as "awesome" as you claim to be. read more

I was charged $6.00 more than what I thought I paid. It was $24.00 for 2 items, which was expensive in itself. The chicken was okay but the rice was soggy and kind of gross. But upon checking my bank statement a few days later, I learned that I was actually charged over $30.00. So I'm not sure what happened, maybe they gave themselves a $6.00 tip, but I am sure I won't be stopping at this food truck again. read more

I go to a lot of cons in Long beach and in LA, and I'm always really glad when I see the Pho King Awesome Trucks. What I really like about the food is, everything you order has a strong different taste and they have a good variety of what to choose from. One of my all time favorites is the Asian Cajun Chicken with white rice suuuper boomb! Amazingly friendly and always humble when you wait. People will always complain about waiting at a busy event. We had the Pho King Awesome truck at work for lunch courtesy of our vendor Toshiba. We had a special catered menu I first got the OG fried rice and egg roll. Even though I got the fried rice mild it still had a kick although I'm a wimp on spicy foods so to others they would taste a thing and would need more hotness lol. It was good though the sausage was yummy and went well with the fried rice. The meat egg roll was good as well. On my second serving I got the Pho King Noodles with beef that was yummy loved the taste and the tender beef I should have gotten that first cause I couldn't finish it all since I was stuffed from the the fried rice. On their regular menu I saw the spamusushi that looked good I wish it was on our menu so that means I'm gonna have to try that whenever I get a chance to. The staff was awesome and friendly as well the guy who took our order was cool and friendly. Might I mention this was my first taste of Pho ever and I liked it so I got my cherry popped today lol. Who knows maybe my work will have them again since our vendors are always treating us to food trucks and seems like a good amount of the employees liked it. Really friendly service here and I was given a free Spicy Asian Taco which was greatly appreciated! Taco was spicy and pretty tasty. Unfortunately, the pho was not the best. The noodles became really soft even after consuming it within 5 minutes of picking it up. The oxtail broth was clear, but unfortunately not very flavorful. I asked for jalapenos in the pho, and I typically remove them since the broth gets too spicy for my liking. I had to put them back though so that it added some extra flavor. I felt like it didn't have enough spices. Maybe it was lacking star anise. Or simply wasn't salted enough. The meat was also super disappointing. It was too tough and chewy, and I really think they should have opted for serving the pho with rare brisket, since most customers would be taking this back to their office/to-go. read more

I started following Pho King Awesome on Instagram before I even tried their food, anticipating where they would park their truck next. This past weekend I was at the Khmer New Year parade in Long Beach and was so excited to see them participate in it. They set up shop at the festival at MacArthur Park and even though there were more established food vendors near by, I made sure my friends and I stayed in line to support them. I had the Pho which was delightful, the egg rolls hit the spot (especially liked that it wasn't just stuffed with cabbage!), the chorizo and pineapple fried rice was on point and lastly, the owners gave my friend and I a complimentary chicken taco because of the wait (mind you they were last minute serving festival goers). My advice: get a group of friends together when you hit up the truck because you're going to want to try everything! Thai Tea in the menu would be a plus! read more

I really was excited to hear these guys were in the neighborhood for lunch. But if they are indeed a new venture, then they still have a ways to go. I know I won't be seeking them out again any time soon. At 1:15 p.m., they were already out of more than half their menu. I ended up having the pho ($8) and the chicken tacos ($6). At 1:40, I finally got my food. No apologies, no advanced warning it would take so long. And no obvious reason; there was no line! Several other customers were also pretty angry about the delays. When your customers only have so much time for lunch, you can't take almost half an hour to get small food orders out. LESSON 1: Learn who your customers are wherever you park and cater to them. If you're in the middle of Westwood high-rise office bldgs, then expect busy, time-limited lunch denizens and be ready for them. We aren't a bunch of kids with unlimited time to wait for you to figure out how to make three basic tacos and pour some soup into a bowl. JFC. When I finally received it, the food itself was of mixed quality. Their signature pho was a total disappointment. Maybe if I were loaded and it were 2:15 a.m. I'd have thought differently, but on this day it was almost flavorless. The secret to pho is the broth...and this broth was terrible. There was a gritty mess at the bottom of the soup bowl, too...cheap-ass beef soup base, maybe? Whatever mystery substance it was turned me off pretty badly. All the recipes I've seen for authentic pho don't use soup base, preferring instead to have the cook simmer beef bones and other veggies/spices for a long time to make the broth. LESSON 2: If pho is the flagship offering and namesake of your whole operation, how about making it really stand out with awesomeness? Or offer more than one variety? The 3 spicy chicken tacos were a bright spot. They were flavorful, not very spicy at all, actually, and had enough filling to justify their $6 price. The creamy sauce and cilantro played well off the chicken bites inside. Another thing that's gonna get these guys shut down is the overhanging, fold-up metal door on the side where you order and pick up. This was hanging down just a little over five feet high, so almost anyone had to duck under it to get to the window. I saw three separate people bump into it. When someone needs stitches or gets a concussion as a result of this thing catching them, the law$uit is gonna be epic and easy for the victim. And finally, the pics of the food items they offered were small and hard to make out. Learn from more established trucks - have big, easy to see pics of the food you're offering so customers can quickly and easily make decisions. So I hope these guys get their act together. I like interesting truck options -- but these guys did nothing to make me feel special or valued, and their scant available food offerings didn't go nearly far enough to make me overlook all the hassle. read more

Pretty pho king good, but I can only speak for the Asian Cajun chicken. $9 per order, and it's a little basket of chicken nuggets, the breading has the texture of karaage kinda, it's light and crispy, they drizzle teriyaki and a creamy zesty orange sauce on it, then top with chopped cilantro and green onion. I did not add rice, and I think it was a good portion. Friendly service. I'll try the Pho next time, I just didn't want to carry a bowl of hot soup around. I work at the CMC building in DTLA and this is the first time I've seen Pho King Awesome. I'm Vietnamese so of course, I had to try it! Super friendly guy at the window taking orders and decent prices. I ordered the beef pho and was not disappointed! One of the best tasting soups I've ever had! I do add a bit of siracha and hoisin sauce, but that's just my own preference and I think it only enhances the flavor. I would recommend adding a few more veggies. I looked up this truck on BookMyTruck and found out they are new. Well, that was it. A bunch of friends and I landed near UCLA to check out the food here. Amazing people, hospitality and mannerism. Overall, the food is delicious, well prepared and with love from a family. They can prepare as spicy as you like, I do recommend to not ask for any changes. Try the way these guys fuse food. Definitely going there again!! We started with the delicious Asian Tacos. If you go there, get an order of these to try. Pretty small and you get 3 in a plate. And this might become a side order everything you eat!! Delicious meat and tortilla. Next up we tried Asian Cajun Chicken with rice which was steaming hot (the temperature) and spicy (because I asked for it). We tracked down this truck and were eating here again after a couple of weeks. This time, I got OG Fried rice and fusion rice along with tacos. The fusion rice is one of my favorites and you might like it too if you like sweet and spicy in your food. There is pineapple (just enough and aptly cooked) with spicy rice and chorizo. I forgot the name of the guy who runs the the truck with his family. However, he was nice enough to offer us some free Cajun Chicken because another friend wanted to try that. Next time we got them again near UCLA, a couple of days back, and I got the tacos (of course) and Asian Cajun Chicken with rice. I am yet to try the egg roll and spamushi.. :) read more

First time having this, and it was during the Long Beach Grand Prix. Pho is the last thing you expect from a food truck but they do a decent job of it. My buddy picked pho while I decided to tap their other items, their Asian Cajun chicken and their OG fried rice. Now the Cajun chicken reminded me of the chewy tendon of the chicken, I forgot what it's called but overall it wasn't bad. The chicken had a good crispy crunch to it, but didn't really stuck out as Cajun to me, really just Asian. I'd definitely order it again. The OG fried rice seriously was original. It tasted like something you can cook up at home. I was a bit disappointed though that the rice was not cooked all the way through. It wasn't a sesame seed or any veggies they had in there, but I had been chewing on grains of rice that weren't cooked. Now I was hungry so I nearly went through half, but the more and more I kept chewing on uncooked rice, I gave up. I liked the fried rice, I did. With the Chinese sausage in it. Not over seasoned. But that uncooked rice just disappointed me. I hope this isn't a issue in the future. As for the pho, my friend liked it. I only got the chance to try the broth. And it was a darker broth than what I've seen at other pho shops, but this had a heavier "pepper" taste? Maybe too much on their spices, it wasn't over bearing but stood out, and I wasn't feeling it. Well, let me see.... They were supposed to be open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We arrived at 11:40 and they were still loading soft drinks into the ice. They were totally disorganized and not ready for business. After about 5 minutes of this, someone was ready to take our orders. I ordered the Spicy OG fried Rice & an order of egg rolls (3). I waited for over 20 minutes to get my food. The Fried Rice is advertised as having scrambled eggs, Chinese sausage, and mixed vegetables. The spicy rice was not at all spicy and as hard as I searched, I could find no sign of any Chinese sausage included in the dish. The fried rice with veggies was nothing to write home about. The eggrolls - looked and tasted like plain old ordinary ground beef - I saw no sign of vermicelli noodles - just a hunk of hamburger........they did have good flavor though.
