The case was barely filled except for a few pastries: chocolate croissant, blueberry muffin, butter croissant, and almond croissant. Luckily for us, that is our typical order! He was so apologetic but we knew to not expect a lot so close to their end of business. It smelled so wonderful inside! There was no area for sitting down so we took our pastries to go. I stopped in after 11 on a Saturday, and they were sold out of fresh bread, but did have frozen loaves available. Instead I opted for a little sweet treat, and almond croissant. This croissant is delicious! Sweet but not too sweet, flaky and rich and everything you want a croissant to be. One of these days I'll get there early enough for a fresh loaf of sourdough! Sadly, we were probably the last customers and they ran out of most things which means good for them everything is delicious! The owner was so nice and welcoming. We got the pain ai chocolate and a Kouign amann. They pain ai chocolate was so flaky in a good way and just delicious. The Kouign Amann was everything! It was buttery and tasty! We've walked through historic St Charles many times and never noticed there's a bakery here! I'm so glad a friend gave us a gift card to check it out and what a treat it was! It smells wonderful as soon as you stepped inside, no indoor seating but we sure love the unique decors inside. My child counted 23 cat images (I'm sure there's more lol). All the pastries were delicious, high quality flour and leave you (me) wanting more; it's obvious they take pride in their craft! Our favorite was the almond croissant then chocolate almond. The ham & cheese highlight the croissant more, the sticky finger was definitely sticky and perfect sweetness for my taste. I didn't realize that the chocolate chips cookies were the chewy/hard kind, not my preference, but they were delicious nonetheless - lots of chocolate chips! The sourdough was beautiful. First. The delicious smell of cinnamon hits you as soon as you get out of the car. It is instantly comforting and you know you're in for a treat. Second. The owner is so nice. This was my first visit, so he gave me a quick rundown on his way to grab more sourdough loaves from the oven. I looked over the menu while he did his thing. There is nice variety without overwhelming you. He came back, I ordered my sourdough bread, which was still warm. And I was instructed to let it cool until about 11am. It was about 7:30. Ok. I can do this. Right?! Luckily, I had some distractions called a sticky pecan roll and a ham and cheese croissant. People. Heavenly is the best description. The roll was so decadent. The croissant was so flaky and buttery. The sourdough is perfect. Soft inside, crusty outside. Third. This might get me up early on another weekend to grab some more pastries. The art of making bread is a gift and Mr. Meowski''s certainly has it! We went early on Friday morning, so there were no crowds at all. The chairs weren't even down on the little tables yet the store was open and very welcoming. The breads looked fantastic. There was a small display case with pastries. I visited Mr. Meowski's for the first time today. I had to see if it lived up to its hype! I tried the chocolate croissant & chocolate chip sourdough cookies and OMG - amazing. The croissant was so light and airy with delectable chocolate laced inside. The sourdough chocolate chip cookies were so dense, moist, thick, and chocolatey. I usually have to have my cookies warm to think they are amazing... but these hit the spot even at room temp! I understand the hype now, Mr. Meowski's knows what they are doing when it comes to your sourdough baked goods. (side note) To ensure we would be able to get what we wanted when we arrived we placed an online preorder for pickup on Saturday morning. This bakery is a bread lovers dream. You have to show up early if you want to get your pick. The sourdough bread... made daily, fresh and delicious and you get a choice of shapes to suit your crust preference. The viennoiserie was perfect as well. The buttery layers just melt in your mouth. We ordered the cinnamon roll, the sticky, pecan rolls and the pain au chocolat. We also got the last two blueberry muffins, and we are so glad we did. These were soooo well made! The blueberries were fresh tasting and the muffin itself had that artisan made quality, you cannot get from a chain or mass made one, it was spectacular.
