MBC was listed as having gooey butter cake, supposedly gooey butter cakes are a thing in STL. We were in the area and decided to pick up a cake! They only had a whole cake and a gooey butter danish. We decided to get both. The danish was ok, it was pretty dry. And the gooey butter cake itself was super dense. It was ok as well. We actually went to another place and got the gooey butter cake to compare and MBC cake definitely tasted different. It was more almond tasting. Not sure what it was but tasted more of like an almond butter cake. I checked the ingredients and they might have added too much almond extract? Not sure?? The GBC was only $15 so it wasn't too much of a financial hit. We ate a slice and tossed the rest as we weren't fond of it. read more

Everything is always so fresh and yummy. My husband loves their cannolis and I'm a big fan of their whipped eclair. It's a special treat when we are in the area. Very nice staff and a cute little bakery on The Hill. They have a variety of baked goods I came specifically for Italian cookies, and those were only okay. They are available by the pound. Walked in on a Saturday late afternoon and met the owner, Mini. She and her nukerous team members were very friendly and outgoing and filled with suggestions to satisfy our sweet tooth. We settled on the napoleon and their mixed berry gooey butter cake and some swag. The customer service alone sets them apart, but the bakery items were outstanding and delicious. We came here to grab a couple of sweet treats after lunch. It was unusually packed and many people did not grab a number when they entered, so they were quite upset when they saw us grab one. I was find with them going before us, but they all proceeded to get their own numbers. Honestly, the items didn't look that great - maybe that's because I was overwhelmed by the amount of people - but nothing stuck out. We kept it classic and grabbed 2 chocolate chip cannolis. I only had a few bites of mine before passing on it. The first bites with the chocolate chips were good, but then the filling was really grainy. read more

I made the mistake of coming hear their the "Wine Walk." It was also Mother's Day weekend, so the entire place was packed including this bakery. I couldn't even eat dinner in the neighborhood afterwards because of how packed everything was. The bakery itself definitely had a lot to offer. Very friendly staff, but unfortunately were cash only. A trip to the Hill isn't complete without stopping at Missouri Baking. It's chaos which is just one part of what makes Missouri Baking so special. The staff (everyone, young and experienced) are awesome in this fast and furious paced bakery. If there's a line don't worry they'll get you in fast and the wait will give you time to let your senses absorb all the goodness. My guess is you'll change your mind 3 or 4 times, or buy way more than you thought you would! It's so good. And the baked goods are off the charts. Pick whatever makes your eyes light up and you will be beyond satisfied. Today I had a custard filled puff (sorry no pic, disappeared like a magic act!). All the research and blogs I read said that to have the most traditional experience, you got to go to Missouri Baking Company. Inside we found a quaint little mom and pop bakery that reminded me of something from childhood. All the cookies and pastries I grew up with all lined up in vintage looking showcases had me feeling so nostalgic for the sweets I grew up with. I asked for a butter cake, the original, not flavored with chocolate or fruit. Paid 12 bucks for something that felt like it weighed 5lbs lol and immediately tucked into it when I got in the car. Man oh man, creamy and decadent and buttery on a soft crust I thought to myself, so this is heaven eh?The custard inside felt like this rich thick crème anglaise and it was topped with this kind of crunchy powdered sugar to give it some needed texture contrast. We went to The Hill for lunch and parked nearby, so we decided to try this place. There was nothing special about it. Just a bakery shop that could easily be set in the 80's. It was busy so we took a number. Shortly after we were called. The desserts looked fresh and several things caught my eye, but I landed on the cherry danish. When I went to pay by card I was told it's $1.50 charge extra so thankfully I had just enough in cash. I think they had a sign as well but I couldn't read it past the customers. Personally the cashier could've been a little more friendly. I said thank you and I didn't get a you're welcome or any pleasantries. I started on the danish in the car and was terribly disappointed. When I lived in CWE and worked nights I would often stop in to grab breakfast before heading home. I missed the order cut off date for Thanksgiving, arrived 30 minutes prior to opening in hopes to get the cannolis my nephew requested, to encounter a line that were all waiting to nab their desired items too. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and they were busy. Had to wait about five minutes as there were multiple people in front of me. Not to worry as there were tons of items left. I finally remembered about this place and I actually had cash on me this time. I always go to this bakery with cash. It's very reasonably priced so you won't be charging a lot a $20 bill will definitely get you some good stuff but want to make sure that you always take cash. The line can be a little crazy so grab a number and look around. You really can't go wrong with anything and the people there will explain everything with you. They will separate the cold items from the cookies as well which is really nice. That way you know exactly what needs to go in the fridge raider went home and what doesn't. They are not open on Sunday and Mondays but any other day they're open. Definitely a must try! read more
