I used Mr. Rooter back in September 2025 because of a magnet advertisement I was sent in the mail a long time ago. I had it on my fridge. Bad mistake. The President claimed, "IF MY MISTERS CAN'T OPEN YOUR CLOGGED DRAIN ... YOU DON'T PAY!!" I found this to be untrue. I purchased a home in which the bathroom sink was clogged. I called them and a young Mr. Rooter plumber came out. He tried to snake the drain with commercial equipment and was unable to. He called a more experienced member of the company. They eventually left my home and I was without a bathroom sink for a couple weeks until I had Raymond Plumbing out. Raymond Plumbing was able to snake it with a 15' consumer snake that can be purchased at Home Depot. On the day that two Mr. Rooter plumbers came out, they wanted to charge me $716 (supposed discounted rate) for examining my bathroom sink drain. They used a camera and supposedly attempted to use a jet. I was told by the experienced plumber before he left that the cost to get the drain working again would be $1,400. But, only if I authorized the work on that very day. He said they would need to break into the wall and it would cost more if they had to come back out. I would not authorize that work. The experienced plumber left and the young, primary plumber stayed behind to collect money. Prior to the lower prices mentioned above, the experienced plumber wanted me to pay 11-12k to fix the main drainage. He said that rocks in the pipe were a big problem. Not exactly sure what all they intended to do. They were in my back yard talking among themselves before hitting me with the 11-12k fix that put me in shock. He told me they offered financing. I was against that because the drain problem was only with 1 sink. As many would, I started to distrust this experienced plumber and didn't believe anything more he was saying. He left my home and the primary plumber ended up only charging $500 and I wrote a check even though the drain was not working. I cancelled the check and Mr. Rooter sent my account to collections. We settled on something less than $500 via collections. Mr. Rooter - never again. That advertisement was false. read more

Mr Rooter damaged my driveway in April while they were fixing my plumbing. They were quick to admit that they damaged the driveway but two months later my driveway is still not fixed. The managers at Mr Rooter humored themselves by having me call around for contractors to get estimates to fix the driveway. Wasted my time for months!!! The technician managed to break the clog at the pipe entrance but could not get the large cable to make the bend into the pipe. I asked if he carried a half inch snake in the truck and he replied yes. He refused to try running the pipe with it. Here is my experience with Mr. Rooter. I scheduled for an estimate. I received a phone call that Ivan was on his way. He was located 11 miles, 15 minutes away. After an hour, I called Mr. Rooter wanted to know if Ivan was okay or at lunch. I was informed that Ivan was stuck on a job that lasted longer. I was advised that another technician will be dispatched and I would receive a phone call when he was on his way. Later, Raymond showed up without warning or a phone call. While Raymond was looking over the job, Michael, the field manager arrived. I did express my displeasure about the lack of Ivan not coming and both people arriving without a phone call. I decided to give Mr. Rooter a chance and scheduled the repair. Made the appointment for Wednesday, Aug. 5th. I received a text that morning that Raymond was not going to come due to an emergency from the night before. I called to reschedule Raymond. During the conversation, it was stated that Raymond had PTO (paid time off) that day. When I questioned that, it changed to he had PTO on Thursday. I scheduled the repair with Raymond for Friday. Friday morning, received another text the Raymond would not make that day also due to working someplace without water for 3 days. Not sure what was going on. Did Raymond have any PTO, what is so involved that you can't provide a customer with water for 3 days? At this point, I would not recommend Mr. Rooter for any plumbing issues. read more

We had them replace our galvanized drains, 2 new toilet flanges, install a back flow valve, descaled basement plumbing, and a new hot water heater with an expansion tank, new toilets. On Monday, August 18, 2025, at approximately 12:00 PM, a technician named Paxton Geng from Mr. Rooter visited my home to provide a quote for a leaking spigot. I was not home at the time, so my wife communicated with him while I was on the phone. After concluding our conversation and right before leaving, Mr. Geng asked to use my wife's phone under the pretense of showing her a few things. My wife, who has limited English proficiency, allowed him to do so. He had her phone for about a minute. When she received it back, the screen showed a "Thanks for the review" page from Google. My wife navigated back and discovered that Mr. Geng had left himself a five-star review from her phone. He included a comment that is "Paxton Geng is a fantastic plumber who did a great job assessing our need. Highly recommend him to anyone". This action is a severe invasion of privacy and an act of impersonation. I immediately contacted Mr. Rooter to report the incident and spoke with a manager named Steve. He assured me he would look into the matter, make things right, and call me the following morning. I waited two weeks, calling him daily without a response. When he finally answered, his attitude was dismissive, and he seemed to have no intention of resolving the issue. The behavior of both the technician and the manager is deeply concerning. This experience suggests a lack of integrity and proper oversight within your company. I urge you to take immediate action to address this breach of trust and the subsequent failure to follow up. read more

Recently, I posted an unfavorable review about Mr. Rooter in Valley View on Nextdoor based on the bad experience I had on 9/12/23. After numerous back and forth exchanges with their manager using the BBB as a mediator, they continued to deny any wrongdoing and refused to take responsibility for the well orchestrated scam they perpetrated. I proceeded to contact the Ohio Attorney General Office. Since Mr. Rooter management would not respond to their inquiries, which is a requirement for them to proceed on my behalf, their only course of action was to place my complaint on file for further reference. I determined that I would have to accept the financial loss and chalk up my bad experience to being another victim of their dishonest practices. However, I decided that it would be appropriate to alert my friends and neighbors by sharing my experience so they could avoid being taken advantage of by this unscrupulous company. On March 26 of this year, I received a YELP notification from Jess M. at Mr. Rooter inviting me to contact them so they could address my concerns "directly." When I called the number provided, they transferred me to a representative named Jane G. After sharing my experience with her, she suggested that "it happened quite a while ago" and that records indicated they had not acted inappropriately even though the evidence I provided would undeniably contradict that assessment. Her smug and dismissive attitude in defense of their actions makes me even more determined to warn the public about this company. Unfortunately, their fraudulent and deceptive pursuits will undoubtedly continue because to my knowledge they have not been legally held accountable for their practices. It appears that the only reason they responded to my uncomplimentary review was to give the impression to potential customers that they were actually concerned about complaints. Manager Frank came to our house twice, but still, no resolution. These people either have Zero expertise or are just simply taking advantage of those of us without plumbing knowledge. First appointment that we set up they were not able to make but did advise us of that when they knew they couldn't make it. They set up a new appointment for first thing the next day with a service person named Rob. He arrived on time. Looked at the broken hot water tank. I made them aware that we had someone else out that told us we had to order a part, we did that, then once the part arrived we couldn't get them to call us back. Rob explained it was hard to get parts for our old tank and that he felt the part we had ordered probably wouldn't fix the tank and that we could need a second part that was probably on back order for weeks. End result was I had him put in a brand new tank. He was done in 3 hours and I finally had hot water within 4 hours. Had not had hot water in a week and a half!! So, funny story. I called Mr. Rooter to repair a water heater they installed 3 years ago. Response was very prompt. After a failed attempt at repair, I mentioned that this unit was still under warranty. Their response? According to the serviceman, his boss says (paraphrasing): Oh, well we don't normally carry that line of water heater. We don't know where we got them from and we don't know how they handle their warranties, so here, call these other guys. In other words, we f**ked up, we installed it, it's broke and we aren't going to do anything about it. You're on your own. Needless to say, I am not pleased. I have nothing bad to say about the serviceman. He was professional, polite and sympathetic. I even offered to pay for part of the cost of a new install, and they were like, nope not interested. Also, the problem was remedied when my bf and I rented a drain snake from Home Depot and snaked out the clog. Exactly what I thought the problem was. It cost less than $50 to snake my own drain, and $10 for a new wax ring (which got wrecked from these Mr. Rooter idiots snaking the toilet itself with the hand crank auger and charging me $150 for it. The guy they sent that tried to persuade me to file an insurance claim and insisted my bathroom wall and ceiling needed opening up and replacing all the plumbing quoted me several thousand dollars! Just to give a neighborly warning. If you're having either sanitation or storm drain issues that are affecting your house, BEFORE you call Mr Rooter, call your city/county and ask them to come out to access the problem. Unfortunately, we did not know to do this and Mr Rooter, of course, did not suggest it. $11K later we find out that a lot of the problem was with the city/county drains which they will fix at no cost to the home owner. I hired Mr. Rooter when my tankless heater went out last summer. They installed a new Navien heater for the tune of $4600. One year later, the heater is throwing error codes. While the heater is still under a parts warranty, Mr Rooter is expecting me to pay labor for the install of the new part. I find it preposterous that such an expensive unit would need service so quickly and that they won't do the right thing and stand by their work. Furthermore, while the tech (Paul, I think) definitely understood my frustration, the manager (Brian) was condescending and arrogant when I voiced my frustration with him over the phone. After I declined to allow them to perform the work out of principle, we ended the call. To make matters worse, he must have pocket dialed me back because I got a call back and overheard him talking badly about me to a colleague. Don't hire Mr Rooter. Called them in for a cleaning and root removal. One guy sat in the street for 2 hours and played on his phone. The guy feeding the hose from the outside is knocking the potted plants over. They tell me I need the whole line replaced then he wants $500 to " mark the line" in the yard to do the estimate. He ends up doing an estimate anyway when I tell him I'm not paying for an estimate. Then he says I need to replace the water line also. I told him I need 1. Scope of work with exact locations of pipe that is non- reparable and he needs to call the city for permits and if they will do a new tie in. Spoiler alert: I know more about excavations than he does. He never got back to me with an estimate because he knows the pipe is not in need of replacement. read more

He changed out a three handle system and showerhead in the shower and change the shut off valves to the shower to ball valve shut offs in less than two hours. I was given an estimate to fix 5 feet of pipe, and hydrojet pipe for $6500 and I paid a $3500 down payment. They opened up the floor, said it would be 20 feet for $25,000. I said no, I can't afford that. They fixed 1 foot of pipe, poured concrete in the hole, never hydro jetted, and left, keeping all $3,500. I requested $1,000 back and I was attacked verbally for even suggesting it. One foot of pipe does not equal $3,500 by their own standards in contract. read more

Just before Christmas last year, our electrical supplier, AEP, had another electrical company contracted to put in new telephone/power poles in our neighborhood. What they didn't do is check to find out where our sewer pipe was located underground. The pole was put in right on top of our line and it collapsed. The next day after Christmas, I went down to the basement to do some laundry and the floor drain backed up, leaving a small lake in the basement. Called around for a plumber but none could come out any day soon - Except for Mr. Rooter. They came out the next day, cleared the drain, had more technicians come out and used wet/dry shop-vacs to get the water out, ran a camera through our drain-out plug and found the broken pipe, checked outside with sensors to pinpoint exactly where the break was at and sure enough - it was right where the new pole was installed. They talked me through the whole process - they called AEP and reported the problem, Mr. Rooter called the City of North Canton to get the permits for the work, met up with the contracted electrical company to get the pole moved, scheduled a day to excavate and replace the old sewer line, came back with a full crew, laid down groundcover protection on the yard before bringing in a backhoe, and then scheduled a water/mold cleanup company to clean and sanitize the basement afterward. All very professional, took all the stress away. Hope I don't need a plumber again any time soon but if I do, better believe I'm calling Mr. Rooter. read more

The manager Josh would not listen and would only say "you probably need to have your whole house redone" he then said the guy would be "30 minutes behind me to snake your drains". At 11:30 I had to call and the lady said "oh you are scheduled between 11-1. This would have been nice to know as I had things to do. When the technician finally showed up (very nice guy), he cleared my drains and he answered my questions regarding having the entire house redone. He also set up appointment for them to come give estimate. 25 minutes (and after no call)after they were supposed to be there, I decided to give them a call. I was told "the technicians are busy and can't come today" WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Then I call main office and speak with "Sophie, the office manager and she listens to me then says, "what do you want me do to for you today?" This company is horrible and do not recommend! Mr. Rooter did some work for my elderly parents, including a new sink install. When I saw the bill, I was shocked to see they charged them over $900 to install a basic Home Depot sink. I called the company, and was told a manager would call me the next morning to discuss. Nobody called me, so a few days later I tried again. I had to wait another couple days after that before a manager called. I explained the situation and he claimed the price for the sink was accurate. I asked if he could provide an approximate breakdown of cost for the sink versus labor, and he refused. I asked for the make/model of the sink installed and he said he didn't have that info in front of him. I asked if he could get it and email it to me the next day, and he said yes. He never emailed me, so the next week I had to call yet again. When I finally got the manager back on the phone, he still refused to provide a price breakdown and claimed he had no way to know what sink they installed, but that they reviewed it and determined they 'accidentally' overcharged my parents $300. No apology, no explanation - like it was no big deal to wildly overcharge an elderly couple who didn't know any better.
