We were excited to finally try it, especially since they're known for their seafood. We ordered one Aguachile Negra ($27), two ahi tacos ($12 each), and two micheladas ($6 each). By our math, the total before tax should have been $63. Before San Jose sales tax (10%) and a stated credit card fee (around $2), roughly $71.30, we were shocked when our Apple Pay charge came out to $85.47. To make matters worse, I had already tipped in cash. Thinking there had to be a mistake, I went back to ask for an itemized receipt. They refused to provide one and instead verbally calculated the total without showing how they arrived at the amount. That left us with more questions than answers. I'm not upset about paying for good food, but I do expect pricing to be transparent. When a business can't provide an itemized receipt or explain a charge that seems significantly higher than expected, it's hard not to leave feeling disappointed and misled. First time trying Mr. Shrimp, and overall it was a great experience. We ordered two empanadas de camarón, a tuna tostada, an al pastor burrito, and two shrimp tacos. Out of everything, our least favorite was the al pastor meat, but all of the seafood dishes were fresh and flavorful. They also have a mini salsa bar with a few select salsas. I really liked that they offered chili oil and rabanos. The food does take a little while to come out, but everything arrived hot and fresh, which made it worth the wait. My husband came in on a Sunday around noon. It's a food truck that makes everything fresh to order but we didn't wait very long for our food. I order carne asada tacos with a fish ceviche tostada, my husband ordered the ahi tuna tostada and an al pastor burrito. Everything was 10/10, although they were out of la llorona and la víctima but it's okay it just means we'll have to comeback to try it! This spot is where one of their food trucks is located, as in a (permanent?) set up. Lunch and dinner. I've been here twice and I can't wait to go back to try something new. On my first visit, I had their Al pastor burrito. Then I realized my friend got tacos, so the second visit, I got a shrimp taco (I mean, name sake so it's got to be good, right?). Well, yes, the shrimp taco was absolutely delicious. So was the Al pastor. Don't miss their orange sauce and guacamole sauce. I can't wait to bring my family here one of these days, since they do have a big tent with lots of tables and chairs. Recommended this place by my cousin. They operate out of a truck in what is probably a permanent spot. I will mostly recommend the Shrimp Emperador Tacos and Birria Tacos. That's it. I'm blowing Mr. Shrimp place up on Yelp, and there's nothing you can do to stop me. This is one of the rare reviews where if I could give it an extra star, I gladly would. Mr. Shrimp had always been on my radar. I've been following their Instagram page for months, but never once thought to order food there. That is, until one breezy Sunday evening where I suddenly thought, "Okay, I need to know what's up." I arrive to the truck and was immediately greeted with an amazing personality. We're talking above-and-beyond hospitality from the owner and the staff. After a light conversation, I got myself two quesabirria tacos ($4 each) with consomé. But because it was my first time here, the owner decided to add in a taco gobernador on the house. It's a secret menu item, something I would know about if I look deeper within their Instagram page. What a treat! The quesabirria tacos are absolutely delicious. Lately, I've been having such a disappointing streak with quesabirria tacos at other places, but these ones reinvigorated my love for them. They're crispy, flavorful, and the quite cheesy, and the meat is tender and plentiful. There was certainly a lot of thought put into the makeup of my tacos because it's got the right amount of everything, and this is not even to mention that there is a self-serve bar where you can apply your own dosage of cilantro, onions, sauces, and other ingredients! The consomé was great. I describe it as rich, savory, and not too salty. If my intuition is correct, you can taste the pasilla-ancho peppers since it has a subtle cocoa flavor. Onto the taco gobernador. It's got shrimp, shredded cabbage, diced peppers, and cheese, all sitting on a corn tortilla. About the same opinion of this as with the quesabirria tacos when it comes to how everything came together so well, as if the recipe was given plenty of thought and consideration. This pairs really well with the different negra sauces on the table. The best sauce to apply on the taco is the Culichi Negra®, which elevates seafood like butter on toast. Of course, the owner check in to see how the food was, and I got to hit them with the praises. This is a business that deserve to be recognized for its quality.
