We hired Ladd (Mr Skylight) to replace our leaky skylights and boy are we satisfied! I would give him more stars if I could. We bought our home and had no idea there was a leak in the roof and existing skylights until the first rainstorm after we bought the house. There was a lot of water coming into the house, but we had no idea how bad the leak was, how long it had been leaking or even truly where the leak was coming from. We called Ladd and he talked to us over the phone about our leak and offered his expertise as to the origin of the leak. He came out to take a look quickly thereafter, which confirmed his ideas and thoughts during our phone conversation. Once Ladd started uninstalling the existing skylights, he found a ton of dry rot in the plywood surrounding the skylights which proved this had been a long existing problem. He installed the new skylights in one day and replaced all the surrounding dry rot around the skylights! He was professional, tedious, and payed particularly close attention to detail. Not only do our new skylights look amazing, the dry rot problem has been fixed and the new skylights are leak free! We chose Mr. Skylight (Ladd) because his experience as a roofer and his education in architecture uniquely qualifies him to do great looking and reliable custom skylight installations. His quotes were reasonable, and while not the lowest, well in line with his level of experience and our confidence in him. His portfolio is massive and he had examples of projects that closely resembled ours. We did one fairly standard replacement and one installation of a custom curb to replace a giant old dome skylight with two modern lights with motorized blinds. The craftsmanship is excellent and the finished result looks great. It doesn't hurt that Ladd is also really pleasant to deal with and he brought along a really friendly and diligent crew. Ladd replaced a large and ancient, cracked plastic dome skylight in our kitchen with fixed Velux glass skylights with solar powered single pleated white light filtering blinds on a custom two-lite curb. We are so happy with our new skylight and sunshade covering and with the entire process from start to finish. Ladd showed up for the free estimate on time, provided timely updates and kept every appointment, which he confirmed in advance. The installation job was quick and very neat, with drop cloths and plastic walling off the room protecting the house and the furniture. While we waited for the parts to come in, and with some rains expected, Ladd came over and covered the skylight with tarps, making it watertight. No sooner had I left a message with Mr. Skylight (aka Ladd) inquiring about an estimate for a leaking skylight, than I received a text to my cell with a picture of my roof (presumably from Google Earth) asking 'which one'? I had three old skylights replaced by Ladd. Upon request, he promptly arrived and took all the measurements and provided the recommendations and estimates for custom VELUX skylights. Upon placing the order, the skylights were ordered and came in on time. He and is crew were able to do the installation on a day that I requested. The crew replaced all the skylights in a matter of hours without hiccups, and cleaned up nicely. He went above and beyond to fix the interface to the roof so there is no chance of any future leaks. Nothing but great things to say about Ladd's work. I had 5 skylights replaced with top of the line Velux units, and the craftmanship is incredible. I was in the process of having my home re-roofed, and he guided me through every step of the way to make sure the roofers knew exactly how to work around the flashings and the custom frames he built. The roofers either ignored me or didn't understand, and Ladd came back out afterwards to double check and correct a few things. A few days after he installed I had one of the manual opening units hook break off, which he promptly came out and replaced while giving me extra tutorials on proper torque :) A few months after the install, the Velux "brains" stopped working correctly; I called him on a Friday afternoon and he showed up at my house within 30 minutes!! This had nothing to do with his work but he still showed up, helped me out, got 'em working again and didn't charge me a dime. In fact, he gifted me a new remote for my troubles! I mean really, who does that nowadays??? Mr. Skylight does. Stop reading reviews and call Ladd today. Don't bother calling any other shop. read more

We wanted to lighten up the main area of our house and called Ladd to discuss skylights. He suggested we install a 16 sqft skylight on either side of a center beam. I'm so glad we went with his recommendation! They look amazing and have helped keep our home (relatively) cool this summer. An update, now two years later.... We noticed that one of our new skylight was developing a few cracks along the edge in the dome itself. Ladd took a look, took some photos, dealt with the manufacturer, and had the unit replaced within a few weeks (had to be custom manufactured to size). I was looking for someone to replace a skylight in my entryway. Mr. Skylight promptly returned my phone call and came to my house and provided me with an estimate in a very timely manner. He provided me with a list of references as well. I contacted a few of them and they gave him high marks for quality of work. He recommended a new screen for a skylight in my kitchen which I purchased and am happy with. For the entryway, he gave me the price for an entire new skylight and one which would keep the existing frame but replace the glass. To keep costs down, I chose to keep the existing frame which he painted (at no extra cost) and he cleaned both my entryway and kitchen skylight. I was very happy with the cost, product, and extras that were provided. He wants to make the customer happy and he did. read more

I cannot recommend this company to the extent they deserve..a sure 10. I needed two 4' x 6' 30 year old operable dome skylights replaced. The estimate was very reasonable and I surely got more value by far than I expected. Ladd's middle name must be Integrity, with professionalism with heart. He protected my interior by moving furniture and laying tarps, even using protection between the exterior ladder and facia. Everything was left cleaner than when he and his crew arrived. He obviously has superb expertise on every aspect of the wide variety of brands, installations, and roofs, with meticulous attention to detail. He is prompt and his communications are excellent, a foretelling of the quality of the work. He doesn't stop until his own high standards are met. They went above and beyond cleaning the mold and corrosion off of the old skylight frames and sprayed them out with bronze to match and to make them like new again. He also bought extra hardware to improve the screen opening and both skylight operators, without extra expense to me. These skylights are now better than they were when new. Also beyond the estimate, the crew cleaned my other skylights and swept my entire roof, carefully collecting the debris and leaving in the green can. I cannot thank him enough. had an oddly placed large skylight directly over a 2 story set of stairs. Heat gain from sun in summer was overwhelming so wanted to get a sliding covering for it with a pole to use to control open and close. Because of odd placement it was not just any 2-day blind kind of place that I wanted to hire because i needed someone bright enough to not wreck the staircase, the walls or the banisters when installing it or worse yet-fall off the ladder. Called mr skylight-he did it quick-much quicker than expected. Price not cheap but there was absolutely no wrecking of my house, carpets etc like with so many other workers and he did it correctly and quickly. read more

I'm sure there are plenty of skylight installers out there, but my advice to you is to stop looking around and called Ladd at Mr. Skylight. I first spoke to Ladd in January 2013 about my intention to bring more natural light into the living room. He came to our house and spent over an hour crawling in the attic, drawing, taking notes, measurements and pictures, and giving me different options and ideas. He followed up the next week with a quote of the 3 options I requested. Well, my 2nd daughter was born that month and our household was quickly consumed by the baby. It wasn't until July 2014 when I called up Ladd again to tell him that I was ready to move forward. He came out again, with his notes from our meeting 18 months prior, still remembering what my wife does for a living and my daughters' name (I'm sure he wrote it down, but still impressive). We crawled into the attic to measure again, and then he put blue tape on the living room ceiling to mark the perimeter of the 4 ft by 4ft skylight that I wanted installed. He walked outside the house to look at the roof, to make sure the blue tape was positioned exactly right. It was off by 2 inches. There were some peculiarities in how the rafters were framed in the house, which called for some creativity to position the skylight in a way that would, in his words, look like it's been there since day 1. He came back inside, got on the step ladder and adjusted all sides of the tape. Still off by an inch, and he adjusted it again. It was then when I was certain I had hired the right guy, as most other contractors will probably just say "well, just imagine this blue square a couple inches to the right". In the end, we had the skylight and a sun tunnel installed. The work was done when we were on vacation. When we came back, you could not tell that a skylight job had been done if you didn't look at the skylight. The place was so thoroughly swept and vacuumed that I didn't need to ask my cleaners to make a special trip to clean the house, something I had intended to do. The skylight is beautiful. The shaft is expertly flared and I can't be more happy with Ladd's work. read more

Used Ladd to replace two skylights - both in bathrooms. I've never met anyone more passionate and knowledgeable about skylights, and it shows. Thought the job would take two days, and it took one. He stayed late, but he got it done, which we greatly appreciated. He also went the extra step of painting over water stains around the openings that had developed in recent years, and the interior trim around the skylights themselves was done so cleanly - a vast improvement, aesthetically and functionally from what we had before! He also showed pictures of the project from the roof, which we of course couldn't see otherwise, unless we climbed onto the roof itself. Thorough and professional and pleasant in every way.
