Oh my god. Where has Mr. Stuff been all my life? For so long, I've been searching for everything I could need under the sun all in one place, specifically tools, kitchen stuff, and cookies. Mr. Stuff has been the man to fill that void. I totally found it on accident, and I could not be happier. There's Dennis Miller talking dolls. There's guitars. There's cups and tents and tape and tarp. It's freaking magical. Everyone that works there is super sweet and very helpful. They seem to know what they're talking about and are willing to talk you through how to fix stuff (because if you're at Mr. Stuff, chances are you're trying to fix something that broke). This place seriously cracks me up. Where else can you buy 10-packs of Ramada shower caps for a buck? And lots of the stuff in the store is eligible for "Buy 12, get 1 free." Hahaha. They've got everything from cool little overstock knick knacks to pet supplies to power tools and used furniture. I bought a "handless umbrella" for a co-worker who's about to have a baby for like $2.50. (The picture shows a mother pushing a baby cart in the rain while the umbrella protrudes from her shoulder. LOL.) I seem to recall quite a few box labels with names that ended in "type stuff" or "like things". I'm not around the neighborhood often, so I'll drop by whenever I'm around to see what's new in inventory. How can you not give Mr. Stuff 5 stars, they carry everything....even physical stars, and yes I was able to find 5. Seriously though, this place is a hidden gem, right next to one of my favorite breakfast places. They advertise tarps of many sizes, and boy is that true. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find a tarp size that they didn't have in stock, in several colors. Mr. Stuff is the lovechild of a hardware store, and a swap meet, with a little bit of dollar store thrown in for good measure. I could have spent hours perusing the shelves and aisles for things I legitimately needed. Whether it was a missing 10mm socket I needed to complete my set, or a 60 count pack of sanitary napkins for my dispenser at the office, they had it. I was able to come away with a homeland security hat, and a bottle of lube, both for a dollar. My friend convinced me to snag a jesus is my homeboy, and party crasher hats as well. I can't say enough about Mr. Stuff. My recommendation is this: make a reservation at Brent's, go next door to the stove piper and have a drink while you wait, breakfast up with something hearty like an omelet or a scramble, then walk down to Mr. Stuff and spend the next 3 hours of your life in under ten dollar heaven. read more

I found Mr. Stuff via a Boing Boing post. This store is a big warehouse full of strange oddities you could get for somebody and not spend any cash. Think of it like going into a 99 cent store and finding even starger stuff. You could easilt get some stocking stuffers out of this place. It kind of resembles Aaahs or spencers gifts, but it's a wholesale store so you could also buy stuff to make a student film. If you have taste you might not want to go here. This place is so cool! It has everything from drill bits to shell lamps to guitars. I found a set of old skeleton keys and some horseshoes for crafting. They had a couple of dental tools right next to wigs, different size tarps, and duck tape. Most things are new but they have some random items like my keys. I am a Registered Nurse working with doctors, nurse practitioners, lab techs, and medical assistants at National Research Institute in downtown Los Angeles, along with our two other sites in Panorama City & Huntington Park. We have masks but no other personal protective garments. I contacted Mr. Stuff desperately seeking protective equipment for our staff of over 35 people. Mr Stuff filled my vehicle with protective disposable caps, booties, isolation gowns, patient gowns, gloves, & sterile drapes. The prices were lower than all our supplier's prices but MR. STUFF REFUSED TO TAKE ANY PAYMENT SAYING IT WAS HIS CONTRIBUTION OF PPE TO "LA's HEALTHCARE HEROES WHO PROTECT US ALL." If you ever wanted to be treated like a thief this is the place to go. First of all this is all junk from like storage wars (storage unit) stuff. They tend to buy out storage lockers that go unpaid and what you are seeing is stuff from storage units and stuff. A lot of stuff is pure junk, expired food items, expired shampoo, clothes with possible mites, you name it. It's basically a large compilation of people's and businesses storage units and throwaways. Like a flea market from 1991. Here is the worst part though...the over the top employees who treat you like a thief. The workers there continually stare at you, some will follow you around the store. These people are kinda crazy, they think you're going to steal something, steal their junk. It was funny for a while but it happens every time you go. Next time watch for this stuff, these people are kinda nutty and treat you like a thief. 1. They will greet you when you come into the store. (This is a retail 101 tactic to greet a customer as they walk in because it will deter theft. It tells the customer that someone saw you and will be seeing you. It helps deter theft.) What's funny is that these guys do it to look like they're being friendly when in fact it's done to let you know they saw you, that's the real reason they are so adamant about telling you hello, but it's a hello with a stare down. lol. I get it. It's a retail tactic, but don't get fooled by their smile. Anyhow, after you're in, walk the aisles and if you think I'm lying, do a glace at the guy behind the counter once in a while and you'll notice, he is already looking at you. lol Count the times you are being watched, my record one time was 9 times. 2. When there is more than 2 guests in the store, and if they have 2 employees, one will tell the other, "I'm going to walk the store..." This is code for I'm on security watch duty but going to pretend I'm fixing the shelf. They do this a lot and it's just embarrassing because there I am looking at their storage wars junk and thinking these people can't be serious about thinking I'm here to steal $1.00 used condoms gaff gifts or a broken no latch case. It's insane. Not even the dollar store does this kind of over the top anti-theft crap. It's not just done on me, I've seen them doing it on other people, it's so bad, that it's really obvious. But this dude that works there, kinda mentally challenged dude, will just do this horrible acting job like he's fixing a shelf but he's just eyeing you. It's really embarrassing. Next time you go, just watch what they do, it's bat shit crazy how worked up they get about retail theft there. I mean I get it, thieves suck, but dude this place is not a fucking gold mine that people want to go to jail over stealing a $1 2032 watch battery or a torn L.A. Clippers shirt that have printing mistakes or a 2003 New York Mets dusty keychain. I'VE NEVER STOLEN ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE, bought quite a few things in the past, just dealt with their stupid bullshit, but their spy tactics we're getting out of hand and annoying. They're neurotic and will treat you like a criminal. I had to stop going. I work too hard for my money to be treated like I'm some thief at a fucking used leftover storage unit garage sale. I had to go into an Office Depot yesterday for an emergency supply, and the closest one to where I was that day was right next door to this place... so I knew that I had to go here by the name alone, and it's outside appearance. Wow, this place was weird, they had everything from Tools to Boomboxes to Christmas Decorations! The employees even wore the coolest retro style Mr. Stuff t-shirts! I'm not going to suggest that you drive all the way out here to check this place out, but if you ever find yourself in the area, or live near here, you have to check it out! There is random stuff from duct tape to chairs made out of motorcycle seats to vintage metal signs. I found shot glasses with the characters in Reservoir Dogs on them. This was once an obscure store hidden away in a hard to notice industrial location down the street. The current store is in a busy shopping center. So there are more customers but the shared parking lot is often full, especially on weekends. There's usually some kind of large, odd, impractical but attention grabbing item just outside the front door. Once inside there are 4 aisles packed with an ever changing array of items. I've never left without buying SOMEthing, usually for my geocaching hobby. Some of my favorites are the vast array of roll tapes (so far no camo), zip ties, small zip loc bags, and containers. I've bought very convincing fake rock key holders for $1.95, shiny new "Dogtoids" round tins for 25 cents and a few fake fruit containers for $1. Other items of note are a big selection of tarps and tiedowns, Made in Turkey kitchen plastics, non-name-brand hand tools, and fake antique cast iron yard decorations. The staff is always friendly and helpful, even the big guy who I think is convinced that I'm going to steal something. Even after almost 10 years as a semi-regular customer he still very obviously goes on alert when he notices me in the store. He's fine once I bring my stuff to the register. But someday when I'm in a bad mood, I'm going to tell him off. read more

The staff is great and helpful. I found amazing sets of kitchen stuff for my new apartment, when I moved here in July 2010. I have gone in twice and each time I have found something useful and my boyfriend also enjoyed what he bought. Surprises abound at every visit for they get in new lots of items all the time. You should first hand know that this place isn't like your regular discount store. I would say it looks more like a permanent garage sale.
