First off I'd like to say that this is the best place that I like to take my vehicles, the manager and Steve who work there we've know for many years. Joe Eborn is the primary reason we've continued to come to Colony Tire due to the high quality of work which he constantly perfoms. I've been taking my car and my family's been taking our cars to Colony Tire since 2000. They are upfront about the jobs that they are doing and are under the expectation when you walk through the door that you understand that you're paying for excellent service and an attitude of can do. I feel like the folks who have rated Colony Tire poorly don't seem to understand that the going rate for a Master Mechanic such as Joe is that a minimum $100 per hour. Joe is one of the finest mechanics I've ever met and since moving from Morehead City to Jacksonville I will still take my car the two-hour round-trip to him. Why might you ask? Because when he finds a discrepancy many times he'll fix it to make it right (many times free of charge) because that's the type of attention attention to detail he has. For example I took my 2005 Crown Victoria which I've had for the last 12 years and had the non-standard job of replacing the factory control arms with aftermarket control arms he fixed my new cat back borla exhaust system (it was not in one of the hangers properly, my own fault) which he did not have to, and he also noted several bolts and nuts that were missing from my front rear radiator splash guard from a previous deer strike. He continued on the job to not only do the correct adjustments for the control arms. I had the driveshaft replaced with a police interceptor aluminum driveshaft to save wear and tear from the heavier steel driveshaft on transmission and a metco safety strap in the event that I ever get into an accident and the driveshaft is broken free to protect my family in the vehicle from further harm he noted that the seat which has the nut and bolt to attach them metco safety strap had been improperly replaced with a different size Bolt & Nut from reupholstery job that had been done a year previous. Free of charge he use the appropriate nut and bolt assembly for the safety strap and also in the driveshaft job properly adjusted the harmonics and adapter kit to the driveshaft. The Crown Victoria not only is more efficient than when it was Factory new with 162000 miles on it but it handles better than when it was first brand new. This job was in-depth and yet done skillful and above and beyond while being a fair price and honestly less expensive than I think it could have been. This is due to the fact that Joe is a Master Mechanic and is a fine man who will be upfront and honest with the jobs that he is given. Customers who walk into a place such as Colony Tire and expect the job to be done such as a light bulb change with a "Crumple Zone" car that has fancy body plastic work but at least 12 to 20 screws to pull a light panel off and replace a bulb don't seem to understand that that takes at least 30 minutes to do. You're paying a Master Mechanic to do this job and the going rates going to be at least $100 an hour which is paid to Colony Tire and then only a small portion to the man doing the work it is unfair to have an expectation that a light bulb change and a car with a complicated wiring system and dozens of screws would be as simple as changing a lightbulb in your house for anyone who's done the job at straightforward but requires time. Additionally, other customers who get aftermarket products which are not manufactured by the manufacturer and get a cheap sensor which is not been Factory tested and bring it in for installation neither the mechanic or customer really will know if that part works. The only way to know if the sensor is good or not until after he installs it and does the test using Colony Tire equipment requires a fee for the mechanic to use the company equipment and that's charge to the customer this is all reasonable those who poorly rated Colony Tire for this is also unreasonable. I've known the gentleman who run this business since they first opened in Eastern North Carolina and again I would take my vehicle nowhere else they are fine example of what you'd want to have in a business and a mechanic. You can bet that in about a hundred thousand miles I fully intend on replacing my 4.6L, 2V SOHC in the Crown Vic with either a 5.0L coyote or a similar replacement engine which is currently in the vehicle. read more

I have stopped by here many times for very minor issues (eg, low tire pressure, change windshield wipers, etc) and, on those occasions, I found the staff courteous & helpful. The cost for these types of services is pretty standard. However, there have been two occasions where the service I required was much more expensive. The first time, I needed a new set of tires (they are Mr. Tire, after all ). I was given a quote by a fellow who I believe was the Asst Manager. Again, very helpful & courteous. But the prices I was quoted for a set of four new tires was truly shocking. I typically bought my new tires from a dealer in Cedar Point, but Steve couldn't help me before I took my trip to Greensboro. I would be driving several hundred miles and it really would not be safe. But, when I called Steve and told him the prices I was quoted, he simply said I was being "ripped off." The second time Mr. Tire quoted me a super exorbitant price was when I needed my brakes serviced while having other routine maintenance performed. This time the MyChevrolet app (or maybe it was OnStar... it was somebody!) had alerted me about my necessary maintenance. The brakes had been an ongoing issue and it was unclear whether changing the pads and rotors would help. At any rate, this type of service is typically a pretty set rate. Again, I called Steve, as his shop could also have done the work but, again, I would have to take the car to Cedar Point and arrange transport back to Morehead City and then back to pick it up. That inconvenience might have justified any price difference, but.... WHAT?? Again, the price difference was really stunning. In the end, I came to the conclusion that, in situations where a price was unclear (eg, buying something out of my ordinary like a set of tires, or needing a combination of services and it's not definite which ones, etc), I'm just not comfortable using this Mr. Tire. I can't guarantee that this is so, but I really came away that 2nd time with the impression that the price $$ I was quoted had less to do with my car's needs and more to do with the fact that I am a single female and I clearly had no real knowledge about the required equipment & services. I came away with the definite impression that if I had only thought to bring along a man who could mansplain the situation to me, I would have received an entirely different quote/bill from them. As far as I was concerned, that was most definitely enough said. I took my car to Steve in Cedar Point and I would still be going to him if only he was still in business. I will surely miss Steve Huffman of All-Pro Tires in Cedar Point, NC! Rest easy, Steve. OK, back to Mr. Tire. I cannot - with 100% certainty - guarantee that my sexism hypothesis is a fact. I grant you that. But I have a really strong feeling that sexism is running unchecked and unabated over there and, for that reason, I've not been back for at least 3 or 4 years and I have no plans to go back. I have a slow leak in my one tire in the rear and went there just to get a new tire or to have it plugged if it was possible. The next thing I know is with a little over 26,000 miles on my car, they tell me I need four tires. I told him I've never heard of this before because the tires usually last about 45,000 but I did drive a lot back-and-forth from NC to PA due to my mother's health. The man used this little device to show me that the wear was more than it should be, and that I only had a couple more thousand miles left on the tread. $900 and something dollars later, I ended up with new tires. However, I told my sister about it as she lives in Florida and she told her husband who then called me and said that there's "NO WAY IN HELL" that I would've needed new tires with only that many miles, and the device is probably rigged. So I now have this amount on my credit card and am currently paying $100 a month until I can get it paid off & I've been out of work with no pay since April. Therefore, I DO NOT recommend you take your car to Mr. Tire on Arendell Street in Morehead City. I know that as a female many in the car industry try to take advantage of us and that's why I questioned the man when I said that the tires should last to about 45,000 miles. My brother-in-law said from now on to call him before I buy anything else that has to do with the car. I'm very upset by this and I hope this post gets out too many people. read more

We rented a car to drive to Atlanta Beach from VA. The car ended up having a nail in one of the tires. Our rental place directed us to Mr. Tire. We went in and had the best customer service! They were all very friendly and made sure we were taken care of. They ended up having to order 4 new tires for next day delivery. They called as soon as the tires came in the next day. We brought the car back and we were in and out. Everything went very smooth and it was only a minor hiccup in our vacation. I highly recommend Mr. Tire! Mr. Tire was all booked up for the evening, but recommended a place down the road, and put enough air in our tire to get us there safely. Then told me I needed to replace all 4 tires, which based on the replacement of one tire there would have cost me around $2000. The car was brand new when purchased last November with only 6000 miles. Took it somewhere else and got the tire plugged for $25. Well one of your typical rip off auto centers. my son who is in the marine corps nearby had a tire issue on his AWD acura with 25000 miles on it. He called and they said no problem. So we have the car towed there and next thing you know we needed 2 tires due to the awd, so ok we decide fine. then next thing you know we are forced to replace all 4 tires. It was now almost closing time and they told us all or none due to the awd. so after some phone calls and consulting a few Acura mechanics we were told differently yet they still would not do the work unless all 4 were done. What a rip off and even more so what a way to treat a member of your military. These are the type of shops to avoid. Be sure not to go there if you're stuck they will definitely screw you. I am a single parent of three girls and I relocated here to Morehead City with no friends or family. I walked inside this establishment on Monday to have my coolant reservoir flushed. As I began explaining to the man what's going on with my car, he kept repeating how that process may not fix all the issues with my car I told him I understood that And I only wanted the flushing to remove the wrong coolant. I asked him how much was the process he looked at me in my face and told me "to be honest he doesn't want to touch my car" and denied me services. I've never been to an automotive place where they denied you services because they just didn't want to fix your car or at least help you. I felt disappointed as a resident here in this community. I asked, was there any other establishment that would help me? He shrugged his shoulders and watched me walk out the building. First of all, I do not live in Morehead. On 2 separate occasions while in Morehead, I have run over an object, and have needed to get my tire repaired. I went to Mr. Tire both times. Both times, I was told I would have to come back the following day. The first time I just bit my tongue and went to another tire shop and got it repaired. The 2nd time, like a fool, I went back to Mr. Tire. NEVER AGAIN!! After waiting for at least ten minutes in the lobby, without anyone even acknowledging I was there, I guy finally asked me what I needed. I told him I needed a tire repaired. He said it would be the next day before they would have time to fix it. I asked if they could at least put some aur in my tire. He told me to pull around in front on one of the bays. I pulled around. They had one car in one of bays, and the rest were empty. There were 3 guys standing there. One was working on the car, the other 2 were standing there laughing and joking while the one worked on the car. At first, they acted like they did not even know that I was there (just 15 feet away). Finally, one guy asked what I needed, and I said some air in my tire. Not saying a word, he put some air in, and he said "there you go" and walked back inside.. How unprofessional!! Hopefully I will not need any more help, but if I do, I promise it will not bother the "hardworking" men at your store. read more

Just needed a 13 dollar inspection which is suppose to be 13.60. sent my wife to get it and she called and said they were charging extra for tinted windows and she needed wipers. Wipers were working fine as I replaced recently . I am a retired mechanic & disabled veteran and I know full well all the tricks that crooked cheats use to make more money from unsuspected customers as I worked for a place just like this once and quit the same day I started because I was not willing to take advantage of customers by lying about what they needed which is what I was told to do by shop foreman! The car is a Honda CRV with factory window tint which is not dark at all and nowhere near the 32 percent state law. state regs state that only aftermarket tint darker that 32 percent can be charged the 10 dollars! I will never go back here for anything and I feel sorry for anyone who does. Maybe they know a few regular customers and treat them right but if you are not a reg customer or need an inspection beware. should have been 13.60 but ended up costing $58.61 they even charged me a 3 dollar fee for shop supplies what a way to do business! read more

I went by this week for a simple NC car inspection left very unhappy... First they failed my vehicle because the window tint was too dark.... First I have a 2016 Jeep that has passed inspections for the last 4 years with no problems. Second they made sure to charge me $10 for inspecting the tint, which was a new one on me and when I complained they said it was the law. So I had to pay $22.75 to get my keys. I would certainly stay away from this company if you want to leave a satisfied customer. read more

What a ripoff! After spending 1000.00 for a set of tires, the staff insisted I get alignment. They were told the day before we didn't need them to do alignment; the dealer was doing alignment as part of our extended warranty. On arrival at appointment time had to wait for a bay, and suddenly the sales person says I owe 41.00 more than already paid as they require TPMS kits even if the existing ones are ok. I say ok, but hesitated at the price, since they were charging labor, yet I'd already paid labor for valve stem installation. Got a runaround and went ahead and paid. Then, wouldn't you know it? My car wound up on the alignment machine against my instructions. I was called into the shop with two young children to see how far my car was out of alignment. * The car was in the air*. The numbers changed every second, as the wheels weren't loaded with any vehicle weight. Again I refused,again they insisted. I finally told them to take my car down now. Still gave me a print out of how bad my car was out of spec, again against my wishes. I'm just glad I got out with my wallet at all. read more

Went for inspection and told that would be $30 plus anything needed. Ok. No prob! Comes and tells me I have 3 burned our bulbs. Ok. Didn't tell me how much. Silly me didn't ask. I mean light bulbs aren't that much plus a little labor! Waiting and waiting... asked what's taking so long... told they didn't have one of the needed bulbs "but they are on the way with one." Who? When? Why haven't you told me this? So I'm Called up To pay... $90 and change! Charged $60 for 3 light bulbs to be replaced. I told him that was simply robbery! Why didn't he tell me that before like he did for the inspection fee? I don't mind paying for parts nor labor... but this is insane! When I put on this my personal FB page, others said they quit going to the Mr. Tire near them for same... outrageous prices! First and last time there. read more

My car was overheating and I dropped it off at MrTire. The next morning they called and said I needed a new radiator and thermostat and to replace hoses and belts. They also suggested 4 new tires to the tune of $1800 dollars. I told them just the essentials and they said I needed the radiator and it would cost $850. I called McCabe Auto and they said it would cost $300. I took it there. He checked it out and all I needed was a $20 thermostat. Drove 500 miles home with no problems. read more

During time of inspection, I'm assuming it was owner there behind desk training new manager. He had the people skills of a caveman. Atmosphere in place was heavy and everyone was walking on egg shells to not upset owner. The way he spoke to his own employee was awful. Demeaned him in front of other employees and all his customers. Poor guy was humiliated. Owner was blunt and rude to his own customers. It appears he is tired of dealing with people. He may need to check out the book, How to win friends and influence people, if he cares at all about his business and those around him that have to put up with him. Needless to say, won't be back. Found a great place down East that takes 15 minutes for an inspection! Customers beware. read more

Needed an emergency appointment & repair before heading home after vacation at the beach. I'll give them 2 stars because they took me right away, fixed something that *may* have helped, and got us out in good time. BUT...here were the issues: (1) They didn't try to further investigate or diagnose the problem we were having....did not take it out for a drive, or try to get more details from me (after reading the service description on the ticket afterward, the information they typed up for the issue I was having was not accurate. Makes me wonder if the liberties they took in typing up the description changed how they diagnosed??). I felt like I gave them a lot of information and symptoms to go off of, so not sure why it wasn't listed in the description on the ticket; (2) they did what any garage will do...hook it to a computer, run diagnostics, and fix whatever the code says. But..they felt the need to add on a fuel system clean service which I believe is simply part of up-selling other services once they have you there (and desperate for a repaired car); and (3) did not adequately test drive the car afterward to confirm the issue was truly fixed, because, it wasn't. Not sure what they define as a 'test drive'...hopefully it's not taking it from the garage bay to the front of the shop. But regardless, they did not completely fix the issue, and we made 2 more stops on the way home at garages to continue try to get the problem resolved. Overall, I feel like this shop can do tire installs, oil changes, and basic repairs (based on a computer diagnostic), but don't expect them to go above and beyond to truly troubleshoot and investigate the more complicated issues. 8/7 UPDATE: Took our car to a local garage, and they found the issue to be a stuck brake caliper. So, now we really don't think Mr. Tire did *any* investigating or troubleshooting beyond reading the computer diagnostic, and clearly they didn't do any test driving before or afterward, as they that would have helped them better pinpoint the problem. read more

For starters had an O2 sensor replaced cost around 90.00 dollars to change it out which is fine. I brought the sensor with me I literally just purchased it across the street at Auto Zone and brought it over. After the work was complete immediatley my check engine light came back on. The codes that read now like the sensor was no good. My question is why cant this part be checked first? Instead now i have to pay the 90.00 2 more times to get the working part put in. I also tried calling the store and was told that I didnt get the normal warranty because i brought the part in myself but it says the warranty is on parts and labor. This place has lost my business for good. Not my first bad experience here either!! read more

My husband and I were very unpleased with the service we received. He had taken our 2018 Subaru to be inspected. They would not pass our car due to the tires being worn and they also stated that our car needed an alignment. My husband was shocked by this news because he is always checking the car and the tires. He knew this was not true. He had asked how much they were going to charge for 2 new tires and an alignment. They said it would cost us $588.00. This was absurd. My husband said, "No Thank You." and went and picked up our car. We knew that they were just trying to make money. We took our car to the Subaru Dealership and we past inspection with flying colors. There was nothing wrong with our tires and the alignment was just fine. We are very disappointed with Mr. Tire In Morehead City NC. We know now that they were just trying to make money. So I want to let everyone know to be careful and NOT take your Vehicle there unless you want to be ripped off. read more

Excellent service! I was concerned that one of my tires might be low, due to an indicator light coming on. The mechanic was so nice and checked the tire for a leak, but also checked all my other tires as well. When I went to check out I was told there was no charge! So my first comment was erased when I wrote an update, so I am writing another. I was overcharged by Mr Tire, was told that I needed parts that I didn't need, I was told that a specific part was going bad, which is questionable, but after paying $2000 for brakes, rotors, calipers, and pads, valve stems that I didn't need (which then required a balance and rotation) and a new tire that I also was told in the beginning I didn't need, my brakes are now spongy and my RV pulls to the right. I contacted the company who at first seemed like they were going to be reasonable...nope. I got a second opinion from another company (one that I called first who couldn't get me in) and even though the estimate wasn't for exactly the same things, the things that were the same were much less, and they said that the second estimate was the worst case...and when I scheduled for the work to be checked and explained the whole situation, I didn't even have to mention the company that ripped me off...they figured it out. Apparently this isn't a new thing. I would NEVER go to Mr Tire again, for any reason, and I would strongly suggest looking into ANY other company before risking going to them. read more

My last two experiences were both by appointment. The previous issue was that even after leaving my vehicle for the appointment and returning a number of hours after the vehicle was still not ready. This time, I dropped my vehicle off at 1:30 PM on Saturday for an appointment at 9:30 am the next day. I then left town for the night and when I returned the next day at 1:45 PM my vehicle HAD NOT BEEN MOVED! All I needed was a tire rotation and balance. Nothing special, any person that is employed at this Mr. Tire could have done this. I have 3 vehicles that were being serviced by Mr. Tire in Morehead City, NC and I have purchased a number sets of tires from them. But the customer service has been in decline and has now become intolerable. read more

From the front desk to the garage, all the employees are trained to rip-off the customers any and every way possible. You hear stories like this but never truly understand until it happens to you. This is why you should support local self-employed auto shops that have been in business for years. I was in town and figured it would save time to drop my vehicle off at Mr. Tire Auto Service Center. I will NEVER make that mistake again. Double the prices, charged for things that didn't need to be repaired and zero customer service. I do not recommend this business.
