We were repeatedly told that they were. When the food came out, I asked twice more if the pita was gluten-free and was again told yes. We ate some of it based on those assurances. I finally went and asked another employee, who then told us that the pita DOES contain gluten. This is not a minor mistake for someone with celiac disease. We specifically disclosed the dietary restriction, repeatedly verified the food, and were given incorrect information multiple times before eating it. What makes this especially concerning is that The Fountain on Locust promotes itself as being allergy-friendly. If a restaurant is going to make that claim, staff need to understand food allergies and celiac disease and be able to accurately identify what is and is not safe. We would never have eaten the pita if we had been given correct information. After this experience, I would not trust this restaurant with a serious food allergy or celiac disease. Management needs to address its allergen procedures and staff training before someone gets seriously hurt.

It might even be a good value, depending on how you look at it. They pack it into those little tubs, too. No Diddy. They fill the tub and then they pile it high on top. It's the ol' Five Guys strategy of charging you money out the ass and then giving you more food than you require, as if they're doing you a favor. Uh, thanks? All of the flavors I had were really good, but they were incredibly rich, to the point where after a while they get to be a bit much. They had a mouthfeel almost more along the lines of butter than the cheap ice cream I should be buying (I've been known to eat soft serve from QT), and I'm assuming that's because they have a nutritional profile that's not altogether different. As one of the girls from my running group pointed out, after a while the flavors all kinda run together. Part of it's that they actually melt into each other, and part of it's I'm sure just palette fatigue. I went with three scoops. The ideal order here might be two: enough that you don't feel ripped off, or that you came a long way for nothing, but not so much that you somehow develop delayed onset lactose intolerance in your 40s. Of the three flavors that I had, I liked the Salted Caramel Cookies + Cream, Heritage Mint Chip and Gooey Butter Cake, in that order. But you really can't go wrong with any of those. The Gooey Butter Cake is their signature, but I'm a mint chip brother, as previously discussed. The Salted Caramel Cookies + Cream might be their top flavor.
