There's nothing to see or do in Granite City. BUT if you're EVER in the area, drop by at Weather Vane and grab some ice cream or custard! What is the different between custard and ice cream? It apparently comes down to one key difference in ingredients and the machine used to make the frozen dessert. Both ice cream and Frozen Custard are made with milk, cream and sugar. The additional ingredient that gives Frozen Custard it's creamy texture is pasteurized egg yolk! Interesting, right? I would say that this place beats Ted Drews but to be fair I've only tried Ted Drews once. We ordered their Apple Crisp concrete and it was everything I wanted and more. In fact, it was so good that my husband did a double take and sighed. There were real pieces of apples in the concrete and we finished the whole thing within 5 minutes. We basically inhaled it. The only downside was that we had to wait a long time before placing our order. I understand that they are running a drive-thru at the same time but they literally closed down the front to accommodate a large order that came in. I thought it was a little unprofessional of them especially since there were people waiting. But they're also a very small shop with about 3 employees so I guess you take what you can get! I haven't tried too many custard places but so far Weather Vane takes the win for me both in the taste and price department! Try it! 4/5

Copy of my receipt showing I ordered additional fries and ranch was also added on to our appetizer and was not in the bag.

If I could leave less than one star, I would. I ordered $24 worth of food for carry out this evening. The online ordering system Weathervane utilizes is DoorDash. I drove through, ordered additional ice cream, paid for that at the window, and picked up our food order. Upon arriving home, I opened the folded and stapled bag, and realized I was missing the fries I ordered as well as all of the sauces included with the food aside from a Sam's Club packet of cheap taco sauce. I called the location and politely told the girl on the phone my fries and sauces weren't in the bag, and asked for a refund for the $2 in fries. **She agreed to do so**. 11 minutes later, Paula (that's the name she gave when I asked, but I was not speaking directly to a manager throughout any of this) from Weathervane called to rudely and condescendingly tell me her manager said she put fries in my bag (she didn't and I have zero reason to call about $2 fries and nothing else in the order), that I was essentially lying, and that my sauces weren't in the bag because they weren't on the order. I informed her that the restaurant itself lists the bosco sticks specifically say they come with red sauce and there is no other option to add it as a consumer, and that I did in fact check the box for ranch with my appetizer and neither were there. She told me it wasn't on the order (it was - as the business setup their own descriptions and listed them to include red sauce and it's also on my receipt both posted for reference here) and that her manager did give me the food I claimed I didn't get. I'm sad that neither *Paula* nor her manager were intelligent or customer service oriented enough to look into this further, familiarize themselves with their own menu and what is listed and included in an order, and apologize for the mistake at the minimum. We go to that location regularly and have ordered desserts (and even cakes back when they offered them) and will not be returning based on *Paula* and her manager's terrible and uninformed responses over $2 fries and two packets of dressing they didn't include. I am not a Doordasher but a regular customer. Quality businesses stem from informed, intelligent, and supportive management and it seems as though this location heavily lacked all of the above tonight.

Best ice cream in Granite City. Love their vanilla. They also have a featured fat free ice cream that changes peridically.

Mr Twist has been a ice cream favorite in Granite City for decades and it has always been owned by the same family. If I remember correctly, I believe they are on the third generation of ownership. That's some serious family dedication to satisfying the sweet tooth's of G-City. If you know me, you know that I am a huge fan of soft serve orange sherbet. So when I heard that is what Mr Twist is known for, I knew I had to go try theirs. While I was ordering, the two employees working shared with me that they now have a Raspberry Sherbet, too. They offered to twist the two sherbets, but I opted to do vanilla. My cone was delicious, I enjoyed the blend of vanilla and orange. There's something about that Creamsicle flavor that is so refreshing to me. However, after being given a sample of the new Raspberry Sherbet, I wish I would have blended the two sherbets. The Raspberry had a nice tang to it and next to strawberries, raspberries are my second favorite berry. The service was mom-pop friendly and you could see and feel their excitement to be in the passport. Instead of using the Route 66 stamp provided to all participants, they have their own design. If that isn't cool enough, when you get your stamp, they ask you to sign their Route 66 Guest Book. If you're on Route 66 traveling or live in the Riverbend Area, you need to go have some ice cream at Mr. Twist.

They've got their "naughty" menu with alcohol named flavors and a "nice" side, plus a full vegan lineup (which is rare and very appreciated). This was the closest spot on the way to the airbnb so this was the choice. I do like the name too... have you been naughty or nice? It seemed their main draw was whether you want 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 scoops. The scoops were huge and they seemed reasonably priced. I can't remember exactly but the prices were something like 1 scoop(5 dollars), 2 scoops (8 dollars), 3 (10 dollars), all the way up to 5 scoops (15 dollars). Definitely more reasonable the more scoops you order. Maybe the 5 scoops are for naughty people and naughty people deserve the multi-scoop discount too. Anyway, I went with 2 scoops (Biscoff and Midnight Pleasures(dark chocolate ice cream). I couldn't resist adding honey whipped cream and cherries. Got it all in a waffle bowl. Biscoff - Delicious ice cream. Midnight Pleasures - I love dark chocolate. I prefer it. Not sure how I feel about this ice cream flavor. It was very rich and almost tasted dry(which is odd since it's ice cream). It tasted fine but I doubt I'd go to this flavor again. Honey whipped cream - I'm not sure I've ever had honey whipped cream and now I crave it. It's very specific but when you get that surge of honey... drool. Cherries - Juicy and delicious. Perfect for my bowl. We wanted to go back before we left town but got busy and weren't able to. The standout is definitely that whipped cream. I think it's a must-add for any of their ice cream flavors.

Upon entering, we were greeted by the workers and my nose became filled with the sweet smells of waffle cones, and ice cream. They have so many different flavors to choose from. If you are undecided, ask for a sample before deciding which flavour suites you. Prices are reasonable, and there is plenty of seating inside to sit, or take a stroll through the neighbourhood and enjoy! I opted to get a waffle bowl with gooey butter cake and brown butter almond brittle. Both ice creams were delicious. The gooey butter cake had pieces of gooey butter cake, and the brown butter almond brittle had almond brittle pieces in it. It was sweet, yet salty, and savoury. The waffle bowl was crunchy, and sweet. I will definitely be back to try new flavours!
