If according to other reviewers this is the best buffet in Birmingham, that is really a sad testimony. Total bill including drink (without tip) was $10, so it is decent for a lunch. Most of the chinese dishes were really pretty good, not as good as fresh cooked, but good for a buffet. There is plenty of variety to chose from. The soup was good. As someone else noted, most of the dishes are chicken, but I found a beef dish and it was a bit tough, so maybe better that it is chicken. Mostly likely the price is to cover snow/king crab legs on weekdays (but I'm not a fresh crableg person so I did not evaluate them as a dish). The shrimp fried rice makes an excellent base for your normal mix of Chinese buffet cuisine. The mongolian beef and twice-cooked pork are probably the highlight of the buffet. There is a hot red-sauce shrimp dish and spicy fried catfish dish that have got a southern flair to them, and there is fresh salt+pepper crawfish. The eggrolls were unimpressive. No sushi or dumplings (other than the wantons in the wanton soup) :( The egg drop soup is chicken-based and has a bunch of other veggies in it which was unique. Dinner was $15 and change with drink. The non-buffet takeout menu (which is your remaining option if you show up after 7:30pm or so) is somewhat expensive for takeout but is tasty. Dinner for two runs about $32 in this category. I finally had a chance to try it when I stopped by for their dinner buffet. Overall impression was that it was catered toward a no-fuss dining experience. My friend introduced me to this place a while back & it was good so I came back for a take-out box. The price was around $12, but you get a pretty big box and a small cup for soup. I came around 5 so they might have just switched to dinner meals and everything was fresh. The food was amazing (even though I left it in the car for about an hour trying to get home) and still hot. My favorite was probably the hot & sour soup and this type of spicy shrimp that was on the buffet. I've been in the B-ham area for a while but never tried this place even though I go to the Wal-Mart right across the road. The food changes every so often between meals so if you have a favorite just hope it's a staple. Sometimes things are not labeled or they labels are mixed up so just keep an eye out. The soup is not my favorite and there are no vegetarian spring tools, however the crab angels make up for this. As a vegetarian I have to say that the options are plentiful and flavorful. The beef in the Mongolian beef was dry from exposure and the fried rice noodles were virtually non-existent except for the few broken pieces floating in the sauce. We did not get the buffet - not a big fan of those. We got an order of General Tso's chicken and chicken broccoli with the fried rice. Also got some chicken on a stick. The chicken on a stick was very hot, with a very good light spicy flavor. There were 4 of them. The other 2 dishes were also hot, spiced well, with good flavors. The General Tso's wasn't super sweet like a lot of places are. It could have been a bit more spicy hot but that didn't distract. The chicken and broccoli wasn't overcooked, had a good flavor also. There was no dim sum, dumplings or crab legs (snow would be acceptable). Oddly enough, they did have MSG free offerings. However, there was not even a leaf of lettuce in sight. If you like shrimp there is plenty to be had. In short, it's pretty average and the food is pretty bland.There is no way this place is worthy of 5 stars for a run-of-the-mill Chinese food buffet. read more
