Groceries have become so expensive that I try not to go into grocery stores anymore. I used to love…read morewandering the aisles and trying new things. I can't afford to do that anymore, especially this month when I only received half my usual allowance of food stamps. I tend to gravitate to store brands, as they can be cheaper but most of the time the flavor and quality of the item is quite acceptable. Save-a-lot is one of those bargain or discount grocery stores, along the same lines as Aldi but less German. The selection of food is much smaller, but I can usually find what I'm looking for, unless it's something super specific. It helps to be able to do the majority of my shopping here, to keep costs down. Then I can get the more specific stuff elsewhere. Head down. Don't browse! Save-a-lot is usually empty, but there are days when the checkout line can get a little long. They usually only have one or two registers open... truthfully I think there are only two registers in the store. No self-checkout but the cashiers are usually super pleasant and efficient. My favorite thing about this store is that they sell Faygo (whoop whoop). I love weirdly flavored Sodas and Faygo offers flavors such as cotton candy and candy apple. And Faygo is cheap. I'm glad there is a store like this in my neighborhood.
