The plate consisted of 2 slices of 1/4" brisket, 2 pork spare ribs, 3 sides, a slice of white bread, and a side of sauce for $18!! The box of food was nearly 3lbs! The brisket was above average flat.. Slightly smokey, fairly tender, and very slightly dry. Average brisket overall. The spare ribs were the star of this plate! Full rib cuts of very tender, smokey, delicious ribs! The fat in these ribs had the texture of butter and was unlike any rib fat I've ever touched or tasted! 5 star ribs! The sides were 3.5 stars.. Solid mashed potato salad.. well seasoned dirty rice.. the coleslaw was a little mysterious with a binder that was very flat in flavor, minimal salt, sweetness, and like an oil emulsified light sour cream.. Yes strange but I don't have a clue what was in it. For $18 I'm very happy with my first experience from this roadside bbq stand!

*Update* Nearly one year ago I visited this store as I annually do when I come in for the holidays…read moreand it needed much attention.. but oh how they have changed in a year! I was in recently on my annual trip and needed to stock up on all great Cajun products and meats.. and low and behold.. the revamp of the store was completed. The store front has a new modern face lift that will be bound to survive the next seasons hurricanes. The parking lot lights and area are well lit and open. The overall front area of the store has a great inviting presence. As you enter the store, they have changed the lighting and the walking flow so that you can easily get what you need without clutter and they used clearly posted signs and markings for specials. As to the classic memory of the store, they have kept all of the check out stations just as you have always known them. The baskets as well and the Managers station is still elevated and visible by everyone.. so you know where to find them if you need to. The meat counter area is brightly lit and always providing fresh choice cuts. Overall, the service has improved as well. I simply walked down any aisle and I was always greeted and directed to where I needed to find something. Sometimes, the best stores have the best employees.. and this is a family heritage that covers every generation. Bruce's is a neighborhood staple. It has survived and updated with the times. I am pleased that they finally were able to complete the renovations and stay off the weather of time and be around for future generations.

All came with two sides which included cheesy potatoes, green beans or side portion of red beans and rice. We had ALL and everthing was so delicious. I almost forgot... Warm delicious corn bread was included with every plate. The rib plate was $14 which is very reasonable. Especially since the portion size can easily feed two. The chicken and ribs were so tender that I ate them both with a spoon. You definitely have to give this place a try. You won't regret.
